Kevin and his team did a great job on a full backyard replacement. They were very fast and extremely responsive and easy to work with. They don't do the design work, but they are excellent at implementing a design and doing irrigation. Ours was a complex mix of concrete, decking, plants, borders, rocks, and lawn. Charles C I would not recommend hiring Five Star Landscaping. They charged a very high price for the work that was accomplished, and was not of very high quality, which involved lifting up and re-laying existing flagstone, and removing of an old tree stump. They scattered remaining rock base on my property, and didn't even haul off the tree stump, leaving me to place it in my own green bin. I was not happy with their service. read more

Five star landscaping came and put in a sprinkler system, new lawn, and updated my drip system. They also were able to put a cement pad for my fire pit in. They were very fast and did all of it within two days. The sprinklers needed adjusting a few days later and Kevin came right over and fixed them. I recommend this business. read more

Hello all. I don't usually write reviews, but I feel this company truly deserves it, so here it goes. I Just wanted to post on here to show support for this company (especially in these crazy covid times), because they are awesome, and I would highly recommend them in an instant, to anyone. The work that this team does is great, and very reasonable; not only that, but they are very time efficient, and respectful to One's property when they work. When my wife, and I were searching for a company to make our ugly/ mostly dirt and weeds backyard presentable, we called Five Star. We were not let down at all, and in fact, Kevin, and his team made our backyard beautiful, and surpassed our expectations. If I had to point out 5 positives, here it goes: 1) These guys are punctual, 2) efficient, 3) clean, 4), knowledgeable, 5) and most noteworthy is that they are trustworthy. If I had to point out any negatives, I can't find any. Just an FYI to all, as to what type of job they performed- These guys stamp-concreted our backyard, as well as installed SOD. A couple months later, my Wife, and I are 100% happy with the work- and that's why I am now writing this review, because their work held up. Let me start by saying the professionalism of Five Star Landscaping is next to None! Kevin and his team delivered and exceeded our expectations. Our landscaping dream came true! The two stars are for a couple positives: Kevin was very responsive, even coming out on a Sunday morning to help us out. He also successfully problem solved a sprinkler valve that had been turned off, and replaced a broken sprinkler head. The solenoid he replaced only worked for one watering cycle. He only reluctantly came back out to check on it, but I give him credit for coming back and trying to fix it. The bad news here is that he was very expensive for the work completed, and, as we found out after finding someone who knew what they were doing, his work was shoddy and incomplete. A small example: Kevin had to ask for tape to cover the wires to the solenoid, the other contractor had professional wire nuts and covers. Kevin also left wires disconnected so the system wouldn't work when we declined a more expensive fix. And he charged three times what someone else is charging to fix it. I realize that Kevin has some great reviews and that's what we relied on, but our experience was not as positive and I think Yelpers need to know all sides. read more

My front garden bordering the street (about 10-15 ft.) needed to have all the scalloped edger bricks reset as they were leaning towards the street from years of water erosion. Five Star did a great job of making sure they were not only reset, but were in perfect alignment with each other so they were level. Very reasonable based on prior estimates of up to $1K. read more

The first thing I can say is: WOW. If we could give Mr. Kevin more than 5 stars we would!!!! If you came here to see if Kevin would be worth the business, it is 100% correct and whatever you are trying to have renovated or built, he and his team are the ones for the job. We have a 2,300 sq foot home and Kevin exceeded our expectations. We agreed on re-doing our bricks, installing artificial grass (and LOTS of it), rebuilding our side gate fence with two doors, tearing down our metal shed where we kept tools, cleaned our 500-gallon pond, placed rocks all over our backyard and front lawn as well as re-painting our gazebo. I had made an agreement with Kevin and trusted his judgment. I added on more tasks in between and his team accepted it and finished it without questions asked. They work quickly and the byproduct of their productivity is amazing. I am so so happy with the work he has done as he has changed the look of our home. He wanted me to be satisfied and happy with his work and we were more than amazed and happy with their end product. As a bonus, they were happy guys who made us smile and without a doubt are hardworking. We recommend Kevin and his team greatly. And if future work would have to be done again, we know who we would call. read more

Giving him a single star since zero stars are not allowed. Kevin broke the appointment (via text) in the last minute to arrive on a Saturday for the initial estimate. No apology, nothing. He did arrive the second time within the time window he had mentioned. However, from the word go, he seemed vague about what he was going to offer and seemed to have a 'I care less' attitude. He had brought his photo album showing previous projects but seemed to be expecting me to specify to the last detail what I wanted out of my landscaping project. I had expected him to throw ideas for me to respond. Instead I felt like a journalist asking questions of a celebrity. Kevin mumbled replies and at the end of it all, guess what, he quoted a ridiculously high estimate, thereby offering a hint that he was not interested. All in all, very unprofessional. Kevin is a classic picture of arrogance. My sincere advice to anybody considering to engage Five Star Landscaping is to stay away from them . I wouldn't touch this "company" (= Kevin) with a barge pole. I also have a suggestion to Kevin: Please change the name to "Zero Star Landscaping". read more

We reached out to multiple contractors on Yelp for someone to pour a concrete pad to park a travel trailer on. Kevin was the first to respond. We agreed on a time for an estimate, he showed up right on time, and gave his estimate--a reasonable $. We had another estimate, and Kevin's matched it, but he was able to do the work within a couple days versus the competitor who would have had us wait several weeks. Other contractors we contacted never even called us back. Kevin and his team prepped the ground, arranged for the cement pour, smoothed the cement, and later followed up to see if we were satisfied. His communication was timely and excellent, the cement doesn't have any "bird baths" and it's just exactly what we were hoping for. I have another cement job in mind, and Kevin will be the first one I call. Five Star Landscaping is highly recommended. read more

Kevin and guys did really good job on my backyard, They installed a new irrigation system, new sod, rocks around the border of the sod. They even cleaned up the weeds around my flagstone pavers witch were on the side of my house away from the work that was being done. I called for a irrigation leak I had discovered. Called Mr.Kevin and he was in the neighborhood and said he would stop by. He was on time and after I explained and showed him the job he said he could fix it right then and gave me a verbal estimate. Seemed high considering I had already done the digging and finding but I just wanted it taken care of. He fixed it in about 40 minutes. I'm glad it was fixed and was done quickly but wondering if I was overcharged. read more

Called this morning for a quote. Availability was at 5. Confirmed the appointment. About 5:25pm after waiting 25 past the scheduled appointment time I picked up the phone to call Kevin. He claimed someone had rang the doorbell and we didn't answer. Don't believe that was the case at all because we have 3 big dogs who bark anytime anyone is even near our front door and were patiently waiting at 5pm. Even if someone did ring the doorbell and have a scheduled appointment with a client, wouldn't you think the common curtesy thing to do is to pick up the phone? We will definitely be taking our business elsewhere to someone who is far more professional and accountable. read more

I was skeptical at first, but the stamped concrete came out with intricate detail. He explained his planning and prep work all the while offering positive suggestions. Kevin and his team did a great job installing a drip system on our large front cactus garden as well as hooking up a couple of fruit trees to the rear irrigation system that was already established. He also quickly removed and trimmed back some excess vegetation that we needed removed. We were very impressed with his team's ability to come out on a Sunday to evaluate the scope of the project...and then to come back within a few days and complete all of the work within a couple of hours. Kevin Hoang and his Five Star Landscaping get a big negative star from me. I hired him to do a simple patio fence, pre-cut boards, 2x4 framing, with front and back gates. The two gates had only bare rectangular frames, unevenly cut, no diagonal board to keep them square and L braces too small to support the weight. In a few days both gates sagged, fell out of alignment and stuck out four inches at the bottom. I paid to have a solid bolt type lock on the front gate (like your house front door), but instead he put on a dinky single key latch lock that could be popped off with a screwdriver. When the gate sagged the latch could not even be engaged. I twice sent Kevin Hoang pictures of the sagging gates and asked him to come look at the problem even asking "how much to fix it". No response. Finally I said if he's a professional who took pride in his work and valued his reputation could he please reply. No response. I'm in SF and he does most of his work in the North Bay so he probably figured "who cares, I won't see him again." I'm very sorry I hired him. He's a dud. read more
