I've never been to 5star, but as an Uber driver have met owners and many of the customers. Have recommended to quite a few with great success. The beer was ice cold and the salads were excellent. The rest of our meals were questionable. The grilled mango habanero shrimp tasted like they had boiled the shrimp. I let them know I couldn't taste, or see any mango habanero sauce so they brought out a container... it was Italian dressing. There was no sweetness. There was no heat... it was Italian dressing. Another order on the table was hushpupies with stuffed blue crab. The chef was adamant he made the sauce himself. They were good hush puppies, but the crab must have been very scarce. This place is great! They opened a new arcade room which is super nice. Drinks are tasty and decent priced. Chelsea was our waitress and she was GREAT! Kind and quick with orders. Great food!! I go here for lunch often and have ordered most of the menu times. I have never left disappointed! The special is always great too! The Philly grilled cheese is one of my favorites! This is a surprisingly cool spot. It's an unassuming bar in a small shopping complex, but the interior and the people make it great! We managed to find our dive bar on the first try while in Elkhart! Well, technically it was on the second try since we wanted to check it out on a Sunday night the first time (and it appears that Elkhart closes on Sunday nights), but after reading the reviews and the menu and live music schedule online, we knew we had to go. Everything was exactly what we were after. The staff are super friendly, food (typical bar fare) is very tasty, drinks are *strong* (we won't discuss how fuzzy the next morning was) and decent quality, and the band was rocking. It also appears they do weekend brunch, and the menu looked tasty, but we didn't make it back in to try it. Good to know there's someplace right up our alley when we're in town getting the RV worked on. read more

Personally I don't know that I would call this a dive bar. When I think dive bar I think of... old, lots of character and normally darker places. That said I enjoyed this bar and would recommend it to anyone looking to grab some food and drinks no matter the occasion. The 5 Star Dive Bar is now located in the old State theater. I was told both that the food was great and not so much. We were not greeted when we came in. Finally a waitress ask if we wanted a booth or table. I said table she said they are all reserved then she said sit where you like in the bar. Now this was at 6pm the place was almost empty. So why did my companion have to get up after a 10 min wait for service. We all ordered appetizer and ordered hamburgers. The mushrooms and mozzarella sticks were amazing. The burgers not so much. When you order well done it should have a little flavor and the yummy sauce that came with the sandwich was not detectable at all. I went to Five Star for the first time today and was extremely impressed by the service, and how quickly the food was brought out. Our drinks were never empty. I would say that the food is a little greasy for my taste, but I think that is just part of what I ordered. Would definitely go back and will be ordering salad and soup next time to try that out. read more

Second time here (I try to give a place a second chance before a negative review). Both times the lone waitress was overwhelmed with tables (current count for her is 13 tables, so I don't fault her for slow service--they really need to have a second waitress though, especially since it's getting more crowded as the trivia crowd is coming in). The menu was a little unclear with their definition of "steak burger"...not your typical definition of thin style, but instead it was as thick and tough as a well done steak (topped with cold macaroni & cheese). When the waitress inquired if everything was ok (I had clearly eaten a bite & stopped eating) I explained the problem & she offered to bring me more food. I had my one year old with me and we had already waited 30 minutes to be served, waiting another 30 wasn't really an option, so I declined thinking it could just be removed from our bill. Nope, another 30 minutes go by & we get our bill and it was still on there. In fairness, I didn't bring it up, we just paid it (my intention was not to get free food--it was all left on the table) and just decided not to come back since neither the service nor the food is worthy of their "five star" claim. read more

The new location is fantastic! You really get the 5-star feel in the old theatre. The appetizers were really good, especially the mozz sticks and poppers. The nachos were pretty bland, I would not recommend for the price, and I wish they had a drink menu when we went (they were still working on it since the move). Decent bar with decent prices. I wish that they had more on tap. If you sit at the bar you will get great service, if you sit at one of the tables then it is hit or miss. I have not been there when bands start on the weekends but I hear it gets pretty fun. There is a $5 cover on nights that they have bands after 9:00. The food is better than your average bar food. I'm not satisfied with this 'five star' bar/restaurant. First of all, the name should live up to the standards. A five star bar or restaurant doesn't serve frozen fried food and has first class service. The drinks are nothing spectacular but the prices are a little high considering there is nothing too great with their drinks that are served in plastic. This place just doesn't cut it for me.
