If I could give zero stars I would. We got my sister a massage certificate here for Mother's Day because she never treats herself. She booked her appointment and while in the midst of 3 canceled flights today due to hurricane Milton trying to get to her best friends wedding (she's the MOH) they wasted NO TIME calling her letting her know she missed her appointment. She came in to turn in her certificate bawling crying as this was her breaking point, and the nasty front desk receptionist snatched it out of her hand with no remorse. I'm appalled at how inhumane this woman was. Yes, she's wrong for missing her appointment, but the way it was handled disgusts me. Do not go here. read more

Amazing experience at Five Senses Spa and Salon! I had a brow wax and 30 minute massage. The brow wax was effortlessly done with minimal pain. The lovely, young woman who performed my wax was charming and polite. Very happy with the results My massage with Jason was very relaxing. He put me right at ease and made me feel very comfortable as this was my first one. The rosemary mint oils and scents helped to relax me and appreciate the setting. Jason was polite and helpful. Highly recommend! As for the salon itself, it is amazing- no other words. You are pampered from the moment you enter with luxurious robes, a beautiful, relaxing sitting area while you wait. Very elegant and accommodating changing rooms with lots of privacy. They even had a chocolate fountain. Chocolate fountain, people!! Very decadent and just the right treat after my massage. The salon is clean, geared toward your senses for relaxation and the staff are attentive. I have been a diehard Five Senses customer for 2 years, but today was my last visit. From nails, to hair, to massage, this has always been my go-to. Around July of 2018 I started noticing new faces at the salon every 2 weeks when I came for different services. Since then, I have had 3 different massage therapists, 5 different nail techs, although I have used my normal stylist, there is a new person being trained in the salon every time. I started cutting down my visits around September and cancelled my VIP membership by October and have only been coming in for hair and massage service. Yesterday I had my monthly massage, but with a new person as my normal therapist was gone. The therapist did not listen to my requests to focus only on neck and shoulders. She did not use enough oil for her very rough hands that I had skin burns from friction. Her nails were too long and I have SCRATCHS down my entire back (why she used her nails, I do not know). I had chosen an aromatherapy massage, but instead of pleasant smells got an hour, I had to smell the stale cigarette stench from her uniform. I almost got up about 10 minutes into the massage, but I stayed to see if it would get better, but it didn't. I told her at the beginning not to do my legs or lower back, so she spent 20 minutes on those alone, and then my feet. She spent maybe 5 minutes on the areas I requested, and she noticed the 3 giant knots in my shoulder, the area I specifically said needed attention, but ran out of time to address them. So, I have gone from spending $100-$250 a month at this salon a month to looking for a new salon. I will miss my hair stylist, but I can not give anymore money to a revolving door of employees. I shouldn't feel like I dipped my body into an ashtray during aromatherapy. read more

The place is nice. They offer a nice hand treatment while your hair is processing and they have coffee and other beverages at the ready. That is where my good review ends. I just relocated back to Peoria after being overseas for many years. I go to an Aveda salon in Door County when I'm home in the summer. For me it seemed like a no brainer to book into here for my hair. I have naturally dark hair but am getting gray roots so need root touch up frequently. I've been working hard to lighten up my dark hair all over and had beautiful golden balayage when I went in today. I stated many times I do not want dark hair. I want the color I have and I just want my highlights toned but kept the same golden color. Needless to say, after my wash my hair was a solid dark color. Gone was the lighter color I came in with and gone were my highlights. I actually started to cry. After 2 detox treatments my hair was a bit lighter but still WAY darker than what I wanted. I could tell when I sat down my hairdresser was very new / inexperienced. I should have just left. Needless to say, now I'm stuck with this dark mess and it will cost me a fortune at a good salon to get my hair back to what it was. I had a bad experience at an Aveda salon in Dubai in September and this has now sealed the deal - I will never step foot in an Aveda salon again! Don't let the nice set up fool you into thinking they have experienced technicians. :/ Lastly, I did bring all of this up as I was leaving. They said they would get a manager. I waited 10 minutes and the manager never showed up. I don't think they give two hoots about their customers. read more

5 stars for Ms. Jailyn, 3 stars for Five Senses. I came here for hair, make-up, and nails for my wedding. Jailyn was my stylist for my hair and make-up and did an incredible job. It was a two-day process, and I came the day before for a "trial run" for my updo. We went with something very simple, but she was super patient and accommodating, as well as easy to talk to. We started over when I didn't like our first try, and she took her time and was really sweet about it. When I came back the next morning for the real deal, she recreated the updo without a hitch and proceeded to do my make-up. With the limited Aveda products that the salon had, she put together a look for me that was just what I wanted, and again was super patient with me the whole time when I pointed out picky things. Overall, it was a great experience to work with her. My nail were a slightly different story--my cosmetologist was a sweetheart, but her work was sloppy, and I had to ask her to touch up the tip on my simple French gel manicure several times. She just honestly wasn't great at drawing the lines. I guess if nothing else, she was patient and didn't seem put off all but honestly apologetic. The manicure lasted a decent length of time, even if it was a bit sloppy. The quality may be hit or miss depending on who you get and the prices are inflated, but the customer service experience is excellent at least and this is pretty much as good as you'll find in Peoria. read more

Do yourself a favor and go in and treat yourself to a visit at Five Senses and Spa. It is not normally a place I would consider for a Barber cut but it will be the only place I will have my hair cut from now on. From the time you enter you are treated like you are the only person there. Unlike walk in Barber shops I can schedule an appointment and not have to sit around waiting for up to 35 minutes for the people before me to be done. I was a little early for my appointment and was asked to wait in the sanctuary, was offered a beer or wine. As tempting as that was I did have to return to the office after my lunch appointment. The attention to detail and customer satisfaction is unmatched. You will not wall away from this place unhappy. While I paid more for my haircut compared to my normal Barber I did receive a much better quality haircut and experience. read more

Went in to get highlights, but now have several light blonde splotches in my hair - probably from not getting any toner on them. Called Five Senses to schedule an appointment to fix it. They were polite and scheduled me four days from now. [Will update afterwards.] This was a $140 highlight/trim and now I have to make time to go back and get it fixed up. Disappointed. Another disappointment: the chocolate fondue was a cold puddle and inedible while I was in the "serenity room". UPDATE: Upon parting my hair down the middle, I've discovered a pretty obvious stripe pattern - that I stipulated I wanted to avoid. [see photo] I didn't see this when I left the salon as my hair was parted on the side. Will be needing another round of highlights to fix the striping problem in addition to the toner issue. Sad. :( Hopefully they will offer to do this without charging me for another round. UPDATE 2: I went in for the correction. The stylist tried to tell me she had given me what I asked for. I said that wasn't true. At that point, the education specialist stepped in and diffused the situation, which I appreciated. I had hope the specialist would have checked up on the process later, but that was the last I saw of her. The stylist retoned my hair, but didn't offer to add any other foils. I was not charged for the retoning. My hair looks fine now. I will likely not return to this salon though. The price was too steep for the process of getting this done and needing it fixed. read more

This place is just lovely. I booked a 90-minute massage and a pedicure, and I was just so amazed by the atmosphere and service. I was offered a selection of coffee, tea, water or wine, there's a freaking chocolate fountain in the spa lounge, the pedicure chairs were comfortable, and the robes were fluffy. They think of everything, and I was so comfortable in my massage that I fell asleep. Twice. Heated table, heated towels, oh my. This will be my go-to place. read more

Went there this weekend for a cut/style and pedicure. I was very impressed. To start, this is an Aveda salon. I like Aveda, I have been to Aveda salons a lot, I think Aveda products (for the most part) smell lovely when taken individually. But I am very scent-sensitive, and I've had issues at some Aveda salons because they can smell like they've taken every product they make and just let loose all over the place. It can be overwhelming. I didn't have this issue at Five Senses. It was very neutral smelling except when they used products on me. Taylor gave me a fantastic hair cut. I got exactly what I asked for and she was just as sweet as can be. I moved to peoria several years ago, and have had such bad luck with hair cuts here that I finally gave up and started going home to Kansas City to get cuts. My girl in Kansas City moved away about a year ago, so I let my hair go for a year without cutting it. As you can imagine, it was a mess, and Taylor did an excellent job getting it back into shape, and finally convincing me that a good hair cut can be had in Peoria. I also got a basic pedicure, which was great. I will definitely do one of the speciality pedicures next time. Didn't this time because I booked for late in the day so there was no time for it. I have a couple of minor dings for the place, that's why it gets four stars. They've done a beautiful job with decorating the place, and the facility is very clean and relaxing. But it's in a strip mall, and you can tell you're in a strip mall. They have the drop ceilings (high drop ceilings, but still...), and you're just aware that you're in a strip mall while you're there. They really have done I think the best job anyone could possibly do with the space, but it is what it is. The other ding, and again this is minor, either they don't offer wine/water/tea, or they didn't offer it to me. It's a nicer salon, and they are definitely going for the upper-scale salon feel. I'm used to being offered a glass of wine at places like this. Even Ulta offers water when you get services done there. It was a nicety that was definitely missed. Despite the minor dings, I didn't go here for a glass of wine and a pretty building, I went here for a haircut and pedicure. They did an excellent job on both of those, and had really wonderful people working there. read more

I booked a trial wedding hair/make-up run at 5 Senses Spa in August 2014. The experience was so problematic I cancelled my appointment for the day-of the event after finding a different salon (reviewed elsewhere on Yelp). If you do decided to go with 5 Senses for event hair and make-up, I would be prepared to bring your own make-up products, as you are not informed about what make-up product is or is not available for the look you want to achieve when attending a trial run, which defeats the purpose of being able to see in a trial how your day-of look will appear. 5 Senses Spa does not carry make-up products you would expect to have on-hand, such as liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara (probably these items do not have non-synthetic alternatives?). The Experience: - I received one updo (beautiful) but was ignored (e.g. yes/no not given) about an alternate style that more centrally distributed the thick, heavy, pinned up hair that was all to one side. I did not make it 4 hours in this hair style before removing it due to discomfort and ache. - When I was scooted to make-up, I was told its bring your own waterproof mascara the day-of. - When I identified a mint allergy before make-up application (mint), I found I couldn't wear any of the lip glosses because it was an active ingredient in all of the available prodcut line. This didn't stop the consultant from applying a lip color "Poppy" (fabulous color, fyi) ... which was also apart of the Nourish-MINT product line and likely contains mint. - After agreeing that eye makeup should be simple because I'm using a bold lip color, I was given full-on cateyes like an Egyptian hieroglyph. I had to assert myself three times and reference the picture, before being told that look is only achievable with liquid eyeliner and that it's Bring Your Own for liquid eyeliner too. - Reminded the stylist that nothing has been done with the eyebrows and the childhood scar/bald bit should probably at least be filled in - Foundation makeup left a sort of residue on my fingers when I wiped sweat from the brow, is that normal? When I called Guest Relations to talk about concerns and how we could address them going forward (technical work was favorable, all these problems are communication), it was suggested that a complimentary (maybe comp'd) appointment should be made next week. Then I received follow-up e-mails from Guest Relations that stated a new trial appointment would be full price, that it was uncommon for a person to explore an alternate hairstyle during their appointment, and they confirmed the lip color I received is from a line of products that contained mint (but stopped short of stating anything to the affect of "yes, we probably gave you something you were allergic to after you told us you were allergic to it"). I think Guest Relations was professional, but I found their dialogue completely alienating. Using phrases like "if there was any confusion" felt like they were acknowledge but never really accepting any agency for the negative experience. It felt like the only problem they saw was that you had a problem; it doesn't seem like they actually validate your concerns. It was Guest Relations way of addressing my concerns (acknowledging really, it never felt like my concerns were addressed) that led me to cancel. I really wanted to make things work, but Guest Relations un-engaging and unconcerned tones made me think that I would be in for more of the same if I stayed with them. I ended up being ecstatic with the results at a different Peoria salon. read more

I LOVE Five Senses. This is a great place to relax and unwind. I only get massages and those type of services. I haven't utilized their hair or nail services. They offer you a variety of drinks (tea, water, wine) and they have a wonderful chocolate fountain! I do carry a very large purse so with that and my attire I do take up two lockers which on a busy Saturday, they may not have available. Remember that when going in the winter with a coat, boots, etc. Overall, amazing experience every time! read more

I got a gift certificate here last Christmas and finally used it last month. (I had to use it otherwise I wouldn't get another one, ha!). After receiving it I went online to look at reviews and wasn't too eager to go. They have such a low rating and I really can't figure out why! The staff there was helpful and kind. I thought that the waiting room with the chocolate fountain was very relaxing. I even added on another service while I was there and they accommodated it for me. My only complaint was while I was getting my pedicure. It's right next to the hair salon and the customers and staff in there were all talking so loudly and joking around so I didn't get a chance to relax during that which was disappointing. Also, there are three seats next to each other on a bench for pedicures. While I was getting mine someone else showed up for one and they sat her right next to me! A little uncomfortable being a foot away from a stranger while trying to relax, when they could have put her 2 seats down. Overall, I don't think they deserve the bad reviews received and I had a relaxing time. I would definitely go back! read more

I came here for a pedicure. No one else but me was in the store. The technician was gossiping with the girls at the front desk and had me soak for over 20 minutes. I had to get out and walk across the salon to ask her to please start my pedicure. Then she proceeded to tell me over and over again that most clients liked soaking. Clearly, that was not me! This is a great spa, not deserving of the previous negative reviews. I have had multiple positive experiences here for myself and the people I have sent here via gift certificates and recommendations. I get my hair cut here and have had some waxing done. Each visit I have had a great stylist who is professional and experienced. I Have always left happy with my coif. The waxing experiences have been as good as I've had any place else, funny thought no matter how nice the environment, it still hurts! The owner took me on a tour and explained all of the recent renovations that have been completed and it rivals any place I've set foot in. I especially like the chocolate fountain! read more

Most places offer water or tea before a massage, but here I was offered a glass of wine. It was a lovely start to relaxation. The sheets and robe felt luxurious, so soft! I was able to select a massage oil from three scents. I appreciate this individualism. I got an hour Swedish massage. The back portion was good. After finishing my feet she wrapped them in warm, wet towels. The arm and hand portion felt quite short. But the head, face and neck part was divine. I set up a His & Hers couples escape with rosemary mint manicures and pedicures as a surprise birthday gift for my boyfriend. I made it very clear that this was a surprise, so he shouldn't be contacted for any type of confirmation. Two days before our appointment, he received a confirmation email for his upcoming appointment which completely ruined the surprise I so carefully kept secret! I called to complain as I was extremely upset and all I received in return was some flimsy explanation about how the computer system makes "a lot of glitches". When I spend $450-$500 to spoil and surprise my boyfriend, I really expect their flimsy system to make sure it's a surprise. Nothing was comped for my trouble and the manager did not even reach out in any way to apologize. As for the services, they were wonderful as usual. The chocolate fountain was over powering in the waiting room giving me a headache within minutes. Luckily we had an hour long massage which helped. The massage was a bit hard and I had to tell my masseuse several times to be more gentle, but these are strong ladies so I understand. We were taken to the changing room after the massages were over so we could have our hair washed and styled. I highly recommend this for anyone who gets a massage because the dented oils get in your hair and make you feel a little gross. So wash! I had Rene who was absolutely amazing. She aS quiet when I didn't want to talk and had lots of stories for when I wanted to be entertained. For my gel polish manicure, I had a tough time picking out a color. She walked me through current trends and helped me decide on Russian Blue: a dark navy, almost black, with a little bit of shimmer. Definitely love!! I really enjoyed my time with my boyfriend. They kept us together for the most part which is nice since we are there to relax and spend the day together. ZERO STAR. It was my first time here and I'm never coming back. I told my stylist I wanted to get lighter. We spent 4 hours dying my hair and when everything was done, my hair looked exactly the same as when it started or it got even darker! I called them to see if there was anything they can do it fix it. The manager kept saying there was nothing she can do and was even saying it was my fault. This process wasn't cheap either! I came in for a highlight, color, and cut. It was only suppose to be around $120. I come to the cash register to pay and they said my total was $188 plus I gave $15 for tip just to be nice even though I HATED my hair and everything was $203 for my hair to look exactly the same. THIS WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY. I charged me $45 extra for color when color was included in the package. This place is a scam. AVOID AT ALL COST!!! read more

Great experience! I went there for the first time tonight for a haircut. I'm fairly new to the Peoria area, and unfortunately have only had pretty bad experiences. I was really hesitant to try yet another hair salon, especially one that was a bit pricier. The woman on the phone was very nice, and scheduled an appointment with Vanessa for me. I arrived about 10 minutes early for my appointment and was greeted immediately at the front desk. They offered me coffee, water, or tea and I accepted a cup of their warm tea. THE BEST! It is so so so good. Anyways, Vanessa took me back to her chair early and we got started! She wasn't very talkative, but very friendly. I appreciate that since I'm not super talkative either. She started with a short head massage which felt amazing. We headed over to the shampoo area next and she began washing my hair. The shampoo she used smelt so amazing :) Then, she cut my hair. Basically, she did an amazing job. She took it from something that felt drab and boring and gave my hair some body and life. The entire time she asked how I was liking it. Now I know that's totally normal with stylists, but I usually feel super uncomfortable being honest, and I feel like they typically are not very interested in hearing any feedback. Vanessa was not like that, she seemed truly concerned that I walked away happy with my hair, because of that, I felt comfortable telling her little things I wanted changed- I felt as though she totally agreed. When it was all finished, I was so happy with the end look! I finally love my hair again after a year of let-downs. I will continue going to her while I live in Peoria :) P.s- If you see this Five Senses, I am super lame at tipping on the spot and when I got in the car I realized I left a lame tip that did not at all represent my satisfaction! After reading some of the reviews I was a bit leery about getting a massage here, but the poor reviews couldn't be more wrong. I had an hour massage with Julie (Swedish aromatherapy) and it was fantastic! In the last 15 years I've had a lot of massages with about 10 different masseuses, and she ranks right in the top. Her massage even rivaled a massage I received at a top ranked spa in the Caribbean which was three times as expensive. Julie did a phenomenal job - from the pressure in her hands, to the atmosphere in the room, to allowing me to choose the oil which appealed most to my olfactory sense. Thank you Julie!! At reception I was greeted immediately and warmly, and was ushered into their waiting area for just a few minutes where I was given a beverage of my choice and also got to indulge in their chocolate fountain (a nice touch!).
