I went here for a foil and stacked bob haircut while I was staying in town. Andrea was my stylist and she was great. I usually don't like conversation too much when in a chair but she was easy to talk to and we had similar interests. I loved my hair when I left, but the purple highlights I got washed out in two cold water washes, which is not typical for color when I get it. I'm not sure what was used but that was a bit of a bummer. The place is cute, easy to access and very friendly. If I'm ever in the area again and need a cut, I will be back! read more

I first went here with my mother and bridal party on my wedding day for hair and makeup. They were very accommodating when scheduling times and location. They offered to travel to the wedding location, however; after taking a tour of the facilities, I wanted to have everything done there. You would never guess by looking from the parking lot, but It is very spacious inside. There are separate areas for hair and makeup as well as massage rooms and an area for nails. Great place with talented stylists. Very happy with their skincare services too. I am switching all my skincare products over to Eminence. I've never found a product that worked so well. read more

Driving past this place a many of times to work, I never gave it a second thought. From where it sits on Brandywine Drive, it's almost unnoticeable. A hole-in-the-wall looking place if you will. Once I went inside, my thoughts were changed. Inside it is very modern and trendy. Hardwood floors and painted walls. Chairs align the back of the shop. Up front there are different hair products and accessories. I didn't see part of the building, but it looked to have an area for their spa treatments. The time I went, JENN did my hair. She did exactly what I wanted, and the price was more than fair. I don't know about the rest of the staff, but I do know the only drawback was that she only took cash or check. I usually don't carry either with me -- so that was the only throwback. From the staff that I met, they were all very friendly and welcoming. Easy to talk to -- and FANTASTIC customer service skills. Felt very at-ease when I visited. What I LOVE about Alter Ego is that it is called a SPALON. Not just a salon -- but they also offer many different spa treatments as well. I love it...SPALON...so fun to say :) The website is great, and each month they offer an array of specials....you can also find them on FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, & TWITTER. Updated Review: Tanya is no longer at Alter Ego and hasn't been for a few years. I tried one of the other stylists she recommended to me, but it was terrible. I gave that stylist 3 chances before going elsewhere. I have naturally wavy hair that I prefer to wear wavy/curly. A good stylist knows they can't just blow dry my hair like someone with straight hair because it will turn into a big, frizzy poofball. The stylist I saw would blow dry my hair and after the resulting poofball, use a flat iron to curl it. I wound up with hair that looked like I was back in high school in the 90s. It wasn't even done well for a 90s style. I used to style my hair better. I gave up and haven't been back since. Original Review: After 6 years going to the same stylist who never cut my hair the way I really wanted, I decided enough was enough. I did some searching on the internet and came across Alter Ego. I love that their website provides so much information, especially pricing and services as well as staff. I also liked that I could make an appointment online. I decided to book an appointment with Tanya after reading so many positive reviews about her. I am so glad I did! She really knows what she is doing. I took in a picture of the haircut I wanted and that's exactly what I got. For once in many years, I finally left with a haircut that I was more than happy with! This was my first time at the salon. My stylist was very nice and she did a good job with my color. Although I did have hair dye all over my face, neck and ears when I got home. My cut, however, was a mess. It didn't look bad when I did a quick look at the salon but when I got home realized It was very uneven. Their prices are less than a lot of other salons so it was unfortunate that the cut was so bad. I also noticed that the salon wasn't very clean. I came in today at the last minute for an updo since I forgot my curling iron at home and for the price of a new one, I'll just have somebody do it for me, right? Well, thank goodness Danielle had time to squeeze me in because she was awesome! She was down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and also did a beautiful job in the blink of an eye. My hair was done in 30 minutes and I love it! It feels secure, looks effortless, and I'm super happy. I also booked an airbrush tan but didn't have it done because the stylist who does the airbrush was very honest with me that I wouldn't have enough time to process since it's the same day. I really appreciate the honesty as opposed to just making a buck. If I'm ever back in the Peoria area for any length of time, I'll probably be back to Alter Ego and Danielle. Been coming here for the past 4 years. I have had everything from haircuts, extensions, highlights, facial waxing, Brazilian waxing, up-do's, wedding make-up, wedding hair, massage, spray tan, Gel Manicures and now a FACIAL! Although in a hard to find location on Brandywine, once you are inside this is a really cute salon. They sell Eminence products which is nice to find as they are pretty exclusive. They also have airbrush tans done by an esthetician and not a machine. A majority of the stylists seem to be edgy without looking crazy (a very fine line!) and I have had great success with the nail tech Jennifer. She really takes her time and does a great job. She finds new ideas on Pinterest and is very interested in keeping up with trends. I get the gel polish from her and it lasts a looooong time. Just as long if not longer than acrylic. Plus her machine that bakes the color on has NO UV in it so you don't have to worry about that if you are a sun phobic redhead like myself! read more

Very unimpressed and disappointed!! I called in to schedule an appointment for a trial updo (several months in advance) for my wedding and drove over an hour and a half and the stylist was apparently not aware that I was coming in for a trial updo and thought I was just coming to talk with her (why would I drive all that way when I could talk over the phone). However, she made it seem like it was no big deal and would style my hair.....I came prepared and brought several photos of what I was thinking about doing and asked to have some curls/pieces in front hanging down as well as some volume at the crown of my head and the curls pinned up closer the the back of my neck rather than piled high on my head, but the stylist left no hair in front and pinned it in the middle part of the back of my head. She seemed to struggle with giving my crown volume and she kept saying that it would have been easier for her to make my hair look more full of volume if I hadn't washed my hair that morning and that I needed to also use a straightener on my hair on my wedding day to help "smooth" some of the frizziness (keep in mind I have naturally curly hair). No one ever informed me when I called to schedule that I needed to have "dirty hair" or not "wash it for a day or so" prior to the trial appointment. Even so, I thought now I know for my wedding day....but 2 hours after I left the salon to walk around the mall and go to lunch with my matron of honor....my hair completely fell out! I was extremely disappointed and called the salon immediately and asked to talk to the stylist that did my hair. She didn't apologize at all and when I asked her politely when they closed and if I could come back in and have her pin it back up and fix it, she said they were getting ready to close and made it seem like she didn't have time or was even willing to fix her mistake. I could not believe she didn't say "I'm so sorry" ....talk about bad customer service.....and I'm supposed to trust you on one of the most important days of my life .....not to mention their prices being so high....I would expect only the best. I have never in my life had my hair fall out from an updo nor have I ever been told by a stylist/salon that it is my responsibility to help them do their job. The manager was very rude to me and also quite defensive when I called and asked to speak with her the next week regarding what had happened. She said the same thing the stylist said and put the blame on me, but I have had many stylists do an updo either with dirty or with clean hair/product-free hair, but they put their own product in it and add volume by teasing. When I asked the manager for them to do it again because it really wasn't even the style I was wanting, but mainly for it falling out and worried that would happen on my wedding day...... she acted like I should give the stylist (that messed it up) another chance...... I don't think she wanted to have another stylist be out the money for having to do my trial again for Free since it fell out. I did go back for a second trial thinking it was just bad luck and the second stylist listened more to what I was looking for, but she curled my hair first, then pinned it, and then teased it up by my forehead and crown which pulled some of the curls out of their coil and I ended up with a frizzy updo. My fiance came to the second trail hair updo and wasn't that impressed (said it looked "frizzy" and like a birds nest after we left). The whole experience there was awful and I cannot believe how snotty the manager was about everything. As I'm sure you have guessed I canceled my appointment for my wedding day with them (their loss). Maybe they should spend more time trying to please their customers and less time defending their stylists. Not sure if they had any business education background in their schooling, but I'm going to guess they didn't because if they did then they would know that any "business" that is a "service to consumers" is ALL about making sure you please the customer, apologizing (even if they didn't think they did anything wrong), and taking responsibility for when things go wrong. If you like taking a gamble on you wedding hair then go right ahead and go there, but I wouldn't recommend it!! --anonymous read more

I wanted to get a ton of my hair chopped off after growing it out for my wedding. I went to Sheila Shupp at Alter Ego Spalon. She did a fantastic job cutting my hair! I have fairly curly/wavy hair and she was able to really cut in great layers. The products they have are on the higher-end side. They were all super nice when I went in. But the best part to me was the value! My hair cut was only $22, and it was a good women's cut! I wouldn't pay that much for my husband's hair cuts, but for a more difficult cut, I was very pleased with the quality for the price. I'd tried a few other salons in Peoria, but this is the first one that I plan on returning to twice! read more

Sheila was really sweet. She listened to what I wanted, gave clear feedback, and chatted through my haircut. She gave me just what I asked for, and I felt great when I left. The atmosphere in the salon is friendly, and they seemed fairly busy. The floor is laminate, and at one point my stylist slipped as she walked across the room; then my foot slipped on my way out (nothing dramatic). The salon could use a good cleaning, as there was a good deal of dust. The furniture is all fairly well worn, but in good repair. There was also nowhere but the floor for me to set my purse. ***** Upon closer look, and after washing and styling, I'm not happy with my cut. It doesn't look even in back, and is much shorter than I wanted. I'm going to live with it though because I don't want to take more off. read more

I've been going to Alter Ego for several months. I get my hair done by Tanya and my nails done by Jen. Both do exceptional work....without taking life too seriously. It makes it fun to book another appointment! But I have to say, that my massage with Ben today was one of the best I've ever had....and I've had a lot! Ben was sure to make sure the pressure was right and wanted to know what problem areas he could help with. I've never had a male masseuse and was a little unsure about it but no more concerns on my part. Maybe the massage was so good because it followed a fabulous facial by Cassi, but I'm sure both services would be just a great alone. read more

I love going to Alter Ego! My cousin had her wedding party done there and the hair and airbrush makeup turned out great! All the stylists did an amazing job and anytime I know of someone getting married, I recommend getting airbrush makeup done at Alter Ego. They were also very accommodating for the large group of girls we had. I've also been going to Cassi Crum for my skincare needs since I had a terrible experience getting a peel at a different spa in town. She recommended I do a combo of microdermabrasion and peels for me. My skin was constantly breaking out and afterwards I would be left with scars. I also started using Eminence Organics and I absolutely love their products. After a few treatment, my skin looks 100 times better! Way less blackheads, scarring has faded a lot, and tone is more even. And best of all, it has majorly helped my breakouts of cystic acne. Bottom line-she will make you look amazing and give you back your confidence! read more

I have now gone to Alter Ego Spalon for body sugaring two times. Cassi has been fantastic! I wasn't sure what to expect the first time. I was getting my first Brazilian, and a lot of aestheticians seem to feel men who get this done are deviants, and some even refuse to "expose" certain anatomy during the process (and how thorough can you be if you don't even see the skin you are waxing?). I half expected a glare of suspicion and a guarded approach. But Cassi was great about not judging and handled the entire process with class. When she offered to do my back for the same lower price of a competitor in the future, I did not hesitate. I had my second appointment today 8/22/2018 (back sugaring this time). In two visits, I paid almost the same for a full Brazilian, back, upper arms and shoulders at Alter Ego as I did for just my back, upper arms and shoulders at another spa (two visits as well. I would have needed a third for the Brazilian). Alter Ego Spalon is now the cheapest place for men's hair removal I've found in Peoria! Cassi really goes above and beyond with her customer service, and does not up-charge first timers or men like other spas do. I have only visited two spas for hair removal, and both have been great. The biggest difference being cost (prior Spa offered cheaper back and arms/shoulders, Alter Ego cheaper Brazilian). Cassi also includes shoulders with the back, so I also have to give her credit for that. She even went down to my elbows and didn't charge the full half-arm price. Had I gotten the exact same services at the other spa I would have paid a lot more. Much more value for the money! read more

I had and manicure and pedicure. Wonderful!! I loved the gel option using Opi products. NO ultraviolet light but a l.e.d. light which didn't feel hot and took less time. My cuticles look amazing and the massage to lower legs and feet were amazing. Only disadvantage was it was at the front of store which might be cold in winter, but no problem now. Also the pedicure chair was not as comfortable but the technician made extra efforts to make up for it. I'll be back. read more

I have been trying to found a hairdresser since I moved back here from Arizona. I had use two different hairdressers from prominent Hair Salons in Peoria and were not happy with them. Was so close to flying out to Arizona to have my hairdresser out there do my hair. Then I found Josh I am so happy with my hair and how he did it.
