Had the "dinner portion" General Tso. Good portions, came with sweet & sour soup, wonton chips, an egg roll, a crab rangoon, and pork fried rice. Price was $17.38 with tax. S&S soup is delicious. Mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and tofu pieces. Wonton chips are fresh and not stale. Crab Rangoon's filling had almost no distinct flavor but the texture was good, as well as the perfectly crispy wrapper. Egg roll was ok, again fried to perfection but the filling flavor was non-descript. Pork Fried Rice came automatically with the dish. It's good. I think it's a specialty of theirs which is why it was standard (as in, customers automatically opt for it) and not plain white rice. I'm not sure if it was an upgrade charge or not. It was just automatically entered. General Tso chicken tastes like funnel cake. Powdered sugar flavor, fried bread, slight honey or vanilla. Hint of pepper. It's very tasty but not what I think of when I think General Tso. Overall this is better than some Chinese restaurants in the area. I honestly cannot say one is head and shoulders above another. We usually do Yun Long because we know what they're good at and what they're not, and Yun Long is consistent. We really like Ichiban the best but that is all the way in Picayune. Give them a shot. Do a small meal to make sure you like them. My wife and I shared this one rather than getting two full meals from a restaurant we've never tried. It filled us both up! read more

The man was friendly and accommodating in the beginning however, when the food arrived it was OVERLY, UNBEARABLY, SALTY! When we told him it wasn't edible, he first asked me how to fix it. Sweet family running this restaurant! The owner will make you feel beautiful, seriously, and remember details about your life. If I send my teen daughter in for pick-up, she tells her she hasn't seen me in a while and for me to come in next time. I tried to order 4 dinners for a large group last year and she wouldn't have it. She told me it was way too much food and she was right! I ordered three meals and had leftovers. Meals come with rice or noodles and soup of your choice. My favorite is the hot & sour; it's not too spicy, but it'll clear your sinuses. My friends and I ask for all sauces on the side so we can mix meats and sauces. Imperial sauce goes well with everything! Stop in or grab takeout. It's the only Mom/Pop Chinese place in the area and it'll satisfy your craving. Don't worry when she tells you to grab your own can drink or several more fortune cookies, she means it. read more

The restaurant is dusty and the dust from the ceiling is a lot; the staff is CRUDE; the hostess nearly demanded a lady in a wheel chair sit at a table in the middle of the room and the wheelchair couldn't fit. It was awful to see such harsh treatment. They don't greet you nicely. The food arrived to my table and the waiter plopped it down and left. I was shocked at how low the standards have gone. To top it off, the hostess saw us leaving and looked at us and put her head down and got on her phone. No thanks for coming, or have a nice day... a look and no care whatever... The owners are very kind and helpful, however, I was not impressed with the food. I ordered sesame shrimp and the shrimp were good, but the frying batter was soggy and the sauce was way to sweet. The shrimp toast was excellent and even though the crab Rangoon had good taste, they were not crispy and light. The worst Asian food I have ever had. I had the sesame chicken, my companion had Beef & Broccoli, and we both ordered full takeout dinners, so we had the soup, rice, crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and crisps. The waiter didn't ask for our preferences on spice level or type of rice. I didn't realize this until we were headed home, but since my entrée was listed as "spicy" I figured it was fine. Unfortunately my "spicy" sesame chicken had no heat or taste. It was completely bland! There was a heavy fried breading shell, and very little sauce. The chicken inside was dry and flavorless. I tried several pieces, hoping to find something with flavor, but it was uniformly dry and tasteless. My companion's beef & broccoli was similarly bland. Neither of us got more than a few bites into the entree's. The won ton and egg drop soups both had a strong fishy smell and taste, and no other flavor at all. I couldn't bring myself to try the won tons, since the broth had me gagging. The rice turned out to be shrimped fried rice. I didn't realize this was the default; I would have preferred white rice to go with my chicken. The rice had a strong soy sauce flavor, but nothing else. The crab Rangoon was OK. The egg roll was heavily fried and flavorless. We threw out practically the entire meal. This was the worst Asian food I have ever had in my life. read more

I live in California and I was down visiting a friend and was craving Chinese. I ordered peppers steak plate thinking it was black pepper steak w/ veggies.... when I got it, it was steak with bell peppers..... but it was good! The only thing I have to complain about is the amount if steak in my plate.... there was like 4-5 pieces of steak and the rest was bell peppers. Also got an ordered of crap wontons/ragoons and they were delicious.. a lot of stuffing and I like that... I believe the lady was the owner, she was very nice... loved her attitude! Let me tell you I've been to alot of Chinese restaurants and the host/owners are not the nicest people.... you feel unwanted and rushed but not this place... she greets u once you walk in, with a smile and calls u beautiful. If you're thinking of trying this place, simply adjust your expectations beforehand. If you're looking for flavorful and freshly cooked food (order from menu), then you'll have a good experience. If you are bothered by little things like family helping out in a restaurant business, then you may be unhappy here. I travel extensively for work (300+ nights in hotels each year, all across the country), so I get to eat at many different restaurants for comparison. If you compare this place to the plethora of other Chinese restaurants, Five Happiness is above average. I'm not saying it's spectacular, but it definitely is much better than the mediocre competition in the area. Service is prompt and friendly, based on wise planning of arriving before a rush begins. Food is hot and fresh, but courses are served a bit too soon before one has time to finish. This is comfort food, not haute cuisine. It gets five stars as yummy food in a family atmosphere. The portions are huge - you may want to split an entree. The Special Dinner for one comes with a bowl of soup (not a little cup), a big egg roll, and a crab rangoon. It is served with fried rice unless you ask for steamed. The platter of an entree is about 10" x 7". Last night I had the Chicken Lo Mein and my husband had General Tso's Chicken. Both were good. The lo mein had the slightly smoky fragrance I associate with good lo mein and lots of tender chicken. This is a family restaurant and often mama is waitressing by herself so don't be shy! You can go get a to-go container or coke yourself if you want to speed things up. I disagree with a previous commenter--I come here once a year and it has always been clean. Tonight I had the Mongolian Beef. This is tender, tasty beef and onions in a mild brown sauce--very good. Dan had the Mandarin Chicken which is a huge serving of tempura-fried chicken breast with golden gravy on the side. I know there are still a few folks out there who are not used to Chinese food.
