    little bacon burger
    DineoutGal A.

It's tough to be a burger joint in a city like Winnipeg. We are so lucky to have so many amazing burger places - with many of the famous ones being small family run operations. I had heard so much about this place and maybe the hype led to my disappointment. Going in all, I knew was that this place uses all fresh ground beef, no preservatives or fillers, they use fresh potatoes (and even tell you where the potatoes are from in the store). We went close to closing, which is 10 pm (daily) - the place was winding down so our orders were filled very quickly. They give out free bulk peanuts here and their fries are cooked in peanut oil so a warning to those with peanut allergies. It's one of those joints where people deshell the peanuts and leave it all over the floor. I get the folksy antics of throwing peanut shells on the ground but it just makes the place look dirty and gross. That being said, the peanuts are AMAZING. LOL. yeah, I have to say that the best part of Five Guys are the free peanuts. Perfectly salted and oh so good. Back to the main purpose of this trip....it's a simple menu of burgers (regular which is 2 patties or the "little" burger which is a single patty) and fries (salted called "Five Guys" or "Cajun"). There's even a veggie and grilled cheese sandwich for the vegetarians out there. Opted for the little bacon cheese burger and the little cheese burger and regular fries ($3.50 and comes in the size of a large plastic drink cup). All that came to $17.10 after tax. It's about $5-$8 for single or double burger which a lot of people are complaining as pricey. But let's be real, they're using real fresh ingredients unlike some major fast food places where you pay $2 for a tiny processed burger. Cheeseburgers at VJs is $5.10 and $5.50 at Mrs. Mikes. So let's cut these places some slack for using real ingredients. The burgers can be loaded up with a lot of different ingredients and you have the choice of A1 steak sauce, BBQ and hot sauce to add on as well. I chose "all the way" - mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. All those toppings make a really messy burger, kinda like a Fat Boy. The BBQ sauce is good - more smokey than sweet and the bacon was good without being overly salty. The burger meat itself is surprisingly bland so it's really the toppings that you taste. Now I will say the burger patty tasted really fresh, moist and almost healthy - yeah that sounds weird to say but it did. I like a different type of burger, a more Winnipeg style burger with stronger flavours and that grill top exterior on the patty. So the Five Guys one tasted very mild comparatively. It's a good burger but I still prefer the local Greek family operated burger places instead. The cajun fries were disappointing - the seasoning was a bit muted, sort of like popcorn seasoning and the fries weren't very crisp (almost soggy). I'd go for the regular Five Guys version next time. Service was really friendly and prompt. Since opening about a few weeks ago, they say the line has been non-stop at peak hours (~15 min wait). So try going during off peak hours for the next while.

They cook it all in front of you.

Big burgers, great selection. A little pricey for a fast food place, but definitely worth it

Winnipeg has three Jollibee eateries. After taking in a Winnipeg Goldeyes game on a Sunday…read moreafternoon, I needed something to eat. This location was the closest one, so I drove over here to get a late lunch. There was lots of parking around this eatery. I backed into a spot and headed over to the entrance. There's one door to enter and another door to exit. I appreciated the flow. I got to the counter. A polite, nice woman said hi and took my order. I got the following items: - Pineapple quencher - Two burger steaks with rice - Spaghetti (side order) - Peach mango pie I paid with a credit card. The transaction went smoothly. I got a buzzer that would signify that my order was ready to pick up. It had my favourite number on it, so I knew that all was right with the world. I found a table to sit at. My phone was running low battery-wise, so I had it charge thanks to my power bank as I sat there. It didn't take long for my order to be ready. I saw and felt the buzzer go haywire on the table. I brought it up to the front to exchange it for my tray of food and a drink. I thanked the woman and happy enjoyed my late lunch. I love the pineapple quencher. Sure, it's sugary, but I don't have it often. It's cheerful and yummy. It's like liquid sunshine in a cup. The burger steaks with rice were delicious. It's my go-to meal. The burger steaks were yummy. I loved the mushroom gravy that I mixed in with the perfectly steamed rice. It's comfort food. It's a habit for me to get a side order of spaghetti. I loved the sliced hot dogs in it. The spaghetti was al dente. The sauce had a tangy sweetness to it that was enjoyable. If you need to use the washroom, you must get the access code from a staff member. They are separate stalls and are constantly maintained for cleanliness. I saw staff check them out three times while I was there for an hour. Although you're probably not supposed to get a refill of Diet Pepsi after purchasing a pineapple refresher, I did. I needed to wash down my main meal and get to the peach mango pie. No staffer said anything, which was nice. The peach mango pie is different at Jollibee locations in Winnipeg compared to the one that I frequent in Scarborough. The pie is cheaper in price. The crust is thinner and less doughy. It's crispier. This pie is so good. It was packed full of peach mango filling in every bite. This eatery has a drive-thru. I'll need to try it out next time just to say that I've used it to place an order. It was nice to try a different Jollibee eatery while in Winnipeg. I have one more location remaining before I can say that I have visited all Jollibee locations in the city. This Jollibee restaurant was clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food and drink were excellent. I'd return when I'm in the area again. (289)

Rich, Carb loaded, comfort food and excellent service…read more Olive Garden offers free wine samples to start (up to 3 per person, so take advantage of this! Lol) GLUTEN FREE MENU AVAILABLE They have an impressive drink and appetizer menu to be sure to take a look. (The Italian margarita and lasagna fritta are a good place to start) All of their entrees come with unlimited soup or salad and breadsticks to start. They also offer seasonal specials like the never ending pasta bowl so make sure to ask about any specials they may have on. (Yes, NEVER ENDING PASTA is a thing) Overall you get quite the bang for your buck, prompt and friendly service and you'll probably be leaving with a full belly AND leftovers. I'll list some of my favourites below :) Drinks Pitchers of sangria! I like the red berry sangria. They make a mean Caesar as well. The Italian margarita is definitely a guest favourite. Apps Lasagna fritta (just do it, thank me later) Shrimp scampi fritta (classic or spicy - spicy is best) Calamari comes out quickly and is light and crispy Soup I like to mix! Half gnocchi half fagioli Or I just do the gnocchi Their salad is sooo good. I always add extra peperoncinos (and they sell the dressing by the bottle! Be sure to get your server to add one to your bill!) Entrees I like creating my own pasta and tend to go for the angel hair or linguine, Alfredo or 5 cheese marinara (or half and half!) and either shrimp or chicken fritta The tour of Italy or Italian feast is great for the indecisive guest because you get to try a little bit of everything The Shrimp Scampi with angel hair is really good as well and is lighter fare - so less chance of you leaving feeling like you're going to burst. The Alfredo sauce in general at OG is my fav. Chicken margarita Chicken or eggplant Parmesan! Honestly, everything is really good and they will modify pretty much whatever you want so just ask your server :)

+.5 for service…read more We're one of the few Canadian cities to have Olive Garden, which is kinda neat. You won't get this place in Ontario or points east. I've been here a few times now and have consistently ordered the unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks because of the insane value you get. Their house salad has a pretty good vinaigrette sauce. My favourite soup is their chicken gnocchi, but I've had all four choices and liked each of them. Nothing otherworldly, but good enough for what you pay. I like their fresh parmesan that they add to soups and salads. Definitely go plentiful over it. Service has consistently been good here. As long as you accept that this is an American restaurant and not an Italian place, you'll be satisfied with what Olive Garden offers.
