The only thing good here are the peanuts. The so called make your custom burger just leaves the burger random tasting and not consistent. Have eaten a couple of times and its never consistent. It seems like you have variety when you really don't. The buns too were falling part for me and the meat was brittle and the fries soggy. Hope they can turn it around. read more

Okay, - so I had five guys in Texas with my parents and I was not impressed. I wondered what the big deal was and apparently there wasn't one. I stopped at the Vacaville store out of sheer desperation when I was hungry one day and man, oh, man was that a burger. It was so good, I have been back on multiple occasions and it hits the mark every time. I'm not sure what was going on in the Five Guys in Houston, but this one has done the right kind of training. Shhh.....don't tell anyone but I've been having crazy cravings for hamburgers. I've been averaging a burger a week. Last week it was In-n-Out which I think is the standard. Five Guys is a nice runner up. I went here today after work. This location is brand spanking new. Service adequate. I ordered a little hamburger (1/4 patty), a regular cheeseburger (not for me-for my guy-lol) and Cajun fries. The fries are great! Mine were lightly seasoned and what I enjoyed most was that you could tell they were made from real potatoes with some skin on it. The burger had a real familiar taste....after a few bites I recognized it as a taste from my childhood. The eighties....do you remember how McDonald's use to taste? Before they started using cheap meat. Yay - that taste: good meat, generous topping (not so much it gets messy) and a delicious seeded bun. Great for a fast food joint....but that's why it's only second to In-n-Out which burgers just so fresh and tasty - Number 1. I've heard a lot of hype about Five Guys, so this weekend when I went to the Outlets, I decided to stop in and see what the commotion was about. It had been sold to me as, "an East Coast In-N-Out". Food: I went for the Little Hamburger all-the-way less pickles and mustard. The regular, with two patties, seemed a bit excessive to me. I really like the variety of toppings (all free) one can apply and the mushrooms, in particular, were a very nice touch. The patties were well-portioned (roughly twice as big as In-N-Out's single). The produce was blah, with so-so lettuce and lousy (but thick) tomatoes. It came wrapped in foil, which I didn't like so much because I was afraid I'd end up chewing foil as I ate (which I hear is painful). Paper would be better. I also got the regular fries which was RIDICULOUS, basically filling the brown sack my meal came in with starchy goodness. I don't know if they just wanted to empty the fry box, but I had so many fries I didn't even know what to do with them, eating myself near-sick (in a good way). They were nice and meaty, but a bit over-cooked. The beverage selection was impressive, with all manner of different Coke sodas (including caffeine free diet Coke!) which is a real plus in my book. They don't have shakes of any kind, but they do have hot dogs, which is a pretty rare sight for me these days and appreciated. Service: Very good. The register guy was very patient in explaining how everything worked (not super complicated) and in taking my newbie order. Ambiance: The walls are plastered in periodical articles about Five Guys, where they come from and how rad they are. I suppose they're still in the part of the product development cycle where they're educating the customers about their product and their ideals, so it's fine, but still a bit overdone. The tables are packed together a bit too tightly and there are no booths of any kind. They also cordon off the order area from the eating area with sacks of their potatoes, which is pretty interesting/cool (sanitary?) unless they're fake in which case I'm not down. I thought it was a cool touch that they post where and which farm they got their potatoes from for the day. Loud and crowded. Bottom Line: I really like the topping variety, the no-nonsense decor and they focus on the food. This is a super-solid burger joint and you should try it. read more

I stopped into Five Guys to grab some lunch to go. As I waited for my order, this kid (maybe late teen early twenties) walks in with his mom. It was obvious that the kid had some sort of disability. I have a brother with a disability and as a kid, I remember the awkwardness of going to places and having people stare or make faces. As I waited for my food, I was watching the staff make the orders and handle the customers. I have to say... The service they provided was GREAT and the way they handled the kid was AWESOME. i'm from the south bay area's silicon valley (santa clara / sunnyvale), but i find myself in vacaville quite often because i usually go snowboarding about 20 days a season during the snow months and need to eat and get gas somewhere along the 80. vacville has always been an obvious choice. i remember buying candy that looked like rocks (not rock sugar but candy that was shaped and coloured to look like grey, speckled rocks) from the original nut tree truck stop area. well, that nut tree is long gone. now, we have this megastripmall in its memory. not too long ago, in 2010, a five guys burgers opened up near my house, on el camino real in sunnyvale. i still have not been there, but i now have been to a five guys because i stopped by one for dinner after a day full of jibbing and shredding at boreal, one of the most underrated snow resorts in tahoe. i had heard a lot about five guys and wanted to check it out for myself. actually, most of what i had heard about five guys, though, was how unhealthy it is. after visiting; i have to say that, even though the food is delicious, i can understand why health experts shun it. i had heard from a friend that five guys was started by people that moved from california to the east coast and missed the fresh, high.quality taste of in.n.out burgers. i don't know if that's true or not, but i can sort of believe it. i can see a similar focus on quality to that of in.n.out's. however, i can also see a definite shift from californian to east coast cuisine in the heaviness of the food. i have to say that in.n. definitely has more of a fresh and healthy feel to it. the food here has a heavier, greasier feel to it that reminds me of philly cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and pizza; stuff that isn't so californian but more east coast. well, i had always heard that the stars of five guys are the toppings. it's definitely cool that all the toppings are included in the price of your burger. jalapeño peppers, hot sauce, grilled mushrooms, green peppers, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomatoes are a must. speaking of free things, it _is_ pretty cool that they also give you free peanuts (in shells) to munch on while you wait for your food. the restaurant was very crowded when i visited on a friday night. it was _very_ packed, and there wasn't much room to move around. well, i guess that's definitely one extra positive about this place: it's obviously very popular. read more

This place has won the Zagat Restaurant Award. Okay burgers, good but nothing real special. Long line to order, long wait for our food, thought the burgers would be much better. Kinda tastes like In N Out, not as good as Nation's, IMO. Will eat here again, but will not go out of my way to stop here. Took nearly 30 minutes waiting for our food, not worth such a long wait but they have peanuts you can munch on. Grill area looked a little disorganized, must be a better method to cook-to-order. We ordered fries that came in a plain paper bag (funny that 5 guys does not have custom paper bags). There were lots and lots of fries, but they made the bag real greasy. Most everyone left with leftover fries in a grease-stained paper bag. The dining area was kinda of a stark and sterile. Everything was white or stainless steel. Chairs and stools to sit on, if you're lucky enough to find an empty table. Seemed like more people were standing around waiting for their order than people eating. Burgers were a just a tad more pricey than other fast food places. read more

Obviously, the "answer" to In-N-Out, but the latter need not sweat much. The burgers ARE a bit better here than In-N-Out, but i've had a lot better burgers at "regular" restaurants (& for only a slightly higher price). The fries are "OK", but I prefer the skinny, crispy type, so I didn't eat many of theirs. The ambience is cheerful & the staff seems pretty sharp, but your choice of beverages is soda or soda or soda (and "Coke" brands only). At least In-N-Out offers milkshakes, even if they ARE mediocre (soft ice cream----they come out of a spout). But then I suspect Five Guys isn't trying to be more than just a "quickie-style" burger joint. I think I like In-N-Out a little better because they offer shakes & have skinny fries. "Johnny Rocket" has clearly tastier burgers, dee-lish real ice cream shakes, & great skinny fries----if you're looking for a franchise with higher quality "drive-in" food. read more

whew, I really did not like this place. We waited for at least 10 minutes just to order our food. Then while we were waiting for our food, it was so packed in there that we couldn't even find a seat! It was like everyone was packed in like sardines. There were smashed french fries all over the floor, napkins under the table. I actually almost slipped cause the floor was greasy. It was gross and kinda made me lose my appetite. The burger was alright but didn't look very nice. It was just slapped together. The fries were soggy. Go to In-N-Out across the freeway. Thank God the Peanuts are Free. Food is pricey $7 for a cheeseburger. $2.00 for a 22.oz soda. $5 for a large fry. Your lucky if the fries feed two pre-schoolers... There must be a global shortage on Potatoes because they're very skimpy on fries as it is. When you enter the store your surrounded by quotes and scans of magazine articles claiming how great the food is and what not. But as you look around you'll notice no one has said anything good about this place since 2009. read more

Nobody pays $5 for that. If you're going to five guys, you're going because it's your diet cheat day...and everybody knows that five guys is supposed to provide you more fries than you can possibly consume. Very overrated burger place. The actually burger itself, like the meat, has no flavor. All of the taste comes from the customizable extras on the burger. And the bun practically disintegrates while you eat from all of the grease. Fries are meh but at least you get a lot of them. Don't understand the hype. This once was good but they kinda suck now and haven't had a decent burger from them in months. I won't be going back again, ordered little bacon cheeseburger, lettuce, raw, onion ketchup and mustard... Pretty easy right? mine had practically an entire onion on it, because there too lazy to actually chop up the onion like normal, they had half inch chunks on a LITTLE bacon cheeseburger, so much mayo it was leaking out and almost made me yak. With that amount of onion and mayo you would would the the lettuce and ketchup would be somewhat similar in portion to balance it out, instead I get a barely any... Wtf who wants a mayo onion burger???? And bacon is always old and cold. Hope they go out of business so a decent burger place will come to Vacaville. read more

Very pleased with the flavor and portions. The burgers actually have great flavor and taste like meat not like a bi-product. The amount of fries is fantastic and they are delicious and Hot. Fresh cut taste and yummy. The atmosphere is pleasant as is the service and it's never a long wait. You know your food is fresh as its not cooked till you order it.
