Burgers and fries are great! I'm taking 1 star away because the extremely loud worker that we encountered tonight (12/30/22). The heavyset young lady kept shouting in kitchen and disturbed customers with her loud foghorn voice. We would have sat outside but it was raining so we endured her obnoxious voice and ate quickly. This place has the monotony of a grave yard during non business hours. The workers are supper not thrilled to be there and that about says it all. The décor halfway tries to take you back to a bye gone era where the good ole boys crowned themselves kings and sucked the air out of the atmosphere. A sorry attempt to incite a "nostalgic" feeling comes up short because you cant help but to realize the place is just a cheap rip off of....yes you guessed it, in and out burger. This is even more sorry because in and out burger sucks also. Maybe if they hung some old car parts on the walls or something like that, you might buy it. The burger is really good. It's just WAY overpriced. Having eaten many times at their locations back east, I can't ever remember them being this expensive. Maybe it's because they offer nearly every topping for free, so they can charge everybody for something they don't want on the sandwich. Sure glad car dealers don't do this. And I'm also not a fan of the indoctrination program posted all over their walls, nor of their fries. They're okay, but certainly not world changing, as many would attest. Five Guys burgers have got to be one of the best burgers I've ever had. Had it not been for the $10 burger price I would have given it a 5+ rating. The fries are cooked just the way I like them, extra crunchy, and they 'always' put extra fries in the bag. As always, their burgers and fries are excellent, but one thing puzzles me. I went in today and ordered a BBQ bacon burger and was told that "we ran out of BBQ sauce", and NO Five Guys had any except for their Studio City restaurant. What confuses me is, why can't someone just run down to the Smart & Final, Vons, Ralphs, or even the local 7-11 and pick up MORE BBQ SAUCE!? Seems pretty simple to me, right? Sadly, I did not care for this place! I had never been to Five Guys, but passed it when hungry.. my husband says he heard a lot about it, so we stopped in. We ordered 3 burgers and one order of fries (no drinks!) almost $33.. The choices are basic.. Either hamburger or Cheeseburger.. The regular ones come with 2 patties, the "little" ones come with one patty. You can choose several toppings to put on it.. Burgers were good size. BUT.. they were EXTREMELY greasy and for me, lacked flavor..They definitely needed more pep--salt, pepper, seasoned salt, garlic, SOMEthing! The fries were also VERY greasy and soggy but were ok as far as flavor.. Honestly, the whole grease factor ruined it for me..I felt pretty gross putting that down! Oof, I live near here but haven't eaten at this location in many years. Was in the shopping center today and my son wanted a burger, so we popped in. He ordered a cheeseburger and my daughter ordered a grilled cheese. That's it - no drinks, no fries. Total was $20. When the cashier told me the price it seemed excessive for a cheeseburger and a cheeseburger minus the burger, but ok. Then while we waited I looked around... every frier basket had old fries just sitting in it, and there were fries scattered all over the counters and work spaces. The kitchen didn't look clean. Our order came up, my son's burger was so oily it was dripping oil all over the place. It was gross. Her grilled cheese was under cooked and the slices of American cheese were basically room temperature. It was all pretty gross. We left, $20 lighter with two still hungry kids since we dumped the food. You're better off anywhere, certainly in n out but honestly even Wendy's is better. Five Guys seems to have won more accolades than any other burger around. The walls are covered with quotes of praise, awards and magazine articles. GQ proclaimed it "The Best $5 Burger a Man Can Eat." I definitely thought I'd get a good 100% beef burger. You can customize it with 15 free toppings which is a very nice touch. Burgers are cooked to order in an open kitchen. If you want a burger, they only have beef ones. Besides burgers, they have hot dogs, sandwiches, and French fries. The Cajun style fries sounded interesting. * Little cheeseburger ($4.19): Little means one patty (the regular burgers come with two patties). The toasted sesame bun is very sweet and soft. I didn't like the squishy too sweet bun. The thin patty didn't taste particularly good (wasn't juicy or flavorful). Toppings fell out all over the place. The thin slice of American cheese wasn't melted. I added too many toppings: jalapenos, hot sauce that wasn't hot, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, etc. Overall it was a drippy, wet mess that didn't taste good and wasn't that cheap. Disappointing. The atmosphere is casual Americana, somewhat evoking the spirit of a 50's diner. The theme colors are white and red. They have boxes of peanuts (free peanuts) and sacks of potatoes in the dining area. The soda machine is in the dining room, so you can help yourself to free refills. read more

Just finished up a cheat dinner here at Five Guys in Thousand Oaks. I ordered a hamburger with all the works and a side of Cajun fries. First thing is first, a establishment will always get a plus when they have the huge vending machine with over 100+ flavors. Side: the Cajun style Fries were quite good. I was surprised. I always try to portion control even when eating bad. I caught myself inhaling one by one until it was all gone. Burger: the burger came with two patties which is good for the price. Unfortunately, that's really the only positive. The meat isn't well seasoned and the grilled onions and mushrooms need some seasoning help as well. The overall flavor of the entire burger leaves you feeling like something is missing. Overall, I think the food was just alright. I wouldn't choose to go here but If ask to go, I would not refuse. I have never given a bad review, usually I just don't go back, but I had to warn others. We walked in at 11AM opening for lunch. Staff was friendly, but when we asked for a shake and it was rang up, another person came over and reminded the cashier that the shake machine was broken. He said we'll get 2 free drinks, no problem. When we got to our table it was dirty. Looked around and all were dirty. This is OPENING time, they didn't clean up from last night? I went to get a drink from the machine and found that the Seagrams Gingerale had no syrup. Didn't they check the machine? Ended up with Dr. Pepper. I ordered two burgers, my wife's was fine, but my Bacon Cheeseburger was so greasy that I couldn't taste anything but GREASE. Really? A few weeks ago, I had a few of my friends ask me if I had tried "Five Guys" out. Not knowing what the hell they were talking about, as I'd never heard of the place in my life, thought it was some kind of sick joke. They'd obviously go on to explain that it's like the east coast version of In and Out. Also that east coasters, swear by it, like most of us Californians swear by our In N Out. Myself, like any other respectable California native, would stick up for our hometown hero. But being the unbiased reviewer that I am, I would definitely have to check the place out. Luckily, the Thousand Oaks location opened up not too long ago...making it somewhat convenient for me to skip on over and see what the fuss was about. Upon entering, I notice that the interior pretty much looks like a rip of In N Out; with a white and red color scheme. I don't mind, as it lends itself to that old school diner feel. I step up order a bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, lettuce, BBQ sauce, an order of fries and a drink. I like the fact that you can add or subtract anything from the burger, free of charge. What I don't like, is that this "meal" just cost me just under thirteen dollars. I guess they don't believe in trays for when you want to sit down and eat in. All the food is served up in a brown paper bag. Burger is wrapped in foil rather than any fancy wrapping with their name all over it. Fries come in a cup, and I notice that they're looking very...brown and soggy. The burger itself looked pretty messy, but that's the way I like it. It wasn't meant to be looked at, it was meant to be eaten; and that I did. Wow, this burger was good. I hated to admit it, but bite after bite, I had decided that I liked it. There was personality about it; like someone had a BBQ and made some damned good burgers. The bun was soft, but not soggy. The bacon, crisp but not burnt. The two patties of beef were cooked perfectly. The cheese, melted to just the right point of ooziness. The fries though? Not a fan. They're okay, and far from the worst fries I've had. I still prefer In N Out's fries to these ones. Granted, it seemed like the helping of fries they give you is larger. I got the regular order of fries and I still didn't finish it. I never have a problem finishing a double double with fries. EDIT: I guess I had the normal fries...next time I'll try out the cajun fries! Burger for burger, Five Guys wins this battle for me, by a small margin. The customization is a key player here. Obviously, your mileage may vary; this burger battle is subjective to what you like. The patty seemed like it would be prone to crumbling, but all the "stuff" and the soft bun held it together. For a basic burger, I'd still do In-N-Out (faster, cheaper, basically the same flavor), but if I liked the topping selections (mushrooms, grilled onions, steak sauces, etc.), I'd choose Five Guys. 3 Stars Heard about them and read about them, but never had a chance to try out Five Guys. I heard they were the number one contender to the fast food burger crown out here on the left coast, that crown owned by In n Out. Their main menu consists of hamburgers and "little" hamburgers. The hamburgers have two four ounce patties and the "little" hamburgers have just one. The key difference is at Five Guys is they have BACON! That is a great option that In n Out doesn't offer. There are also burger topping options and they are all free. So if you're feeling simple, you can have just ketchup. Or you can be creative and get grilled mushrooms, bbq sauce and jalapenos. I went with the classic combination of lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and mayo. All of that on a "little" bacon cheeseburger. The fries are fresh and fried in peanut oil, salted or cajun style. I went with salted and a side of cajun seasoning. I like the fries much better than In n Out, thicker and fluffy on the inside. I also liked them salted versus cajun. The burger was good, but not better then In n Out, something about the flavors of the beef from In n Out just make it better. To compare apples to apples, next time I'll need to get my burger without bacon. The Five Guys beef lacked flavor and the cheese was pretty bland. The bun was soft with sesame seeds and nicely toasted. The grilled onions were nothing like In n Out, there was no carmelization. As Jelp mentioned in his review, it is a bit noisy. But I didn't find it to be that big of a deal. The topping options are nice and the prices are comparable, but the burgers just aren't as good as In n Out, IMO. I like the fact that you can order any topping on your burger for the same price! They have plenty of additional topping choices. Their french fries are made fresh with peanut oil; they even tell you what farm the potatoes are from! There are peanuts that you can shell and eat right there. Five guys is kind of like In-N-Out, but nicer. Their burgers are bigger, fresher (I know, doesn't seem possible), and just taste better. Their fries are also cut fresh and the dining area has bags of potatoes strewn about proving this fact. I haven't found a 'hidden' menu like they have at INO, but that's likely because they allow you to customize your burger with tons of options on the menu. What they do offer is burgers and hot dogs with a load of available toppings. Two things worth noting is that their normal burgers have two patties while their 'small' burgers just have one. Also, a small fry is HUGE. They basically pile them into the bottom of the bag; it's easily enough for two to eat. I haven't seen a large fry yet, but I would imagine it'd come in it's own bag. Service doesn't appear to be as fast as INO, but the line is just as long. Luckily they have free peanuts you can snack on while you wait. I still prefer Habit Burger which is right down the street from this location, but for a change, it's still good. One word of caution, there is pretty limited parking so you may have to park at El Torino and walk. read more

I'm a burger fan but over the years have switched to lettuce wrap on all as the carb content in the average hamburger bun is more then triple the balance of burger and condiments. That being said, this is for people who prefer lettuce wrapped burgers. My first time at a five guys burger spot And will say there's lots of choices, good service And the burger is tasty but it was relatively bland And the burger itself could have used some lite salt, Black pepper and a tad of garlic before the cooking stage. The fries with malt vinegar were killer and the coke machine that makes it your way is cool! My only negative is with a regular lettuce burger, small fries and a drink I was at near $16.00!
