The restaurant is family-owned, with a number of locations around La Crosse. The big draw is the hot dog, made by the local Bakalar's meats, and the secret recipe coney sauce that has been served up for at least 3 decades and ingredients known to only a select few people in the family. I suggest the "double dog with everything", which is two hotdogs served on a steamed bun topped with coney sauce, onions, and mustard. Make sure to grab some napkins...it gets messy. Additionally, make sure to have a mint because your breath will smell like onions for hours after your meal. Another suggestion is to order the "bucket" of fries, which are always made fresh to order. If you are stopping through La Crosse, and are near Bridgeview Plaza, skip McDonalds or Burger King....drive over to the strip mall and have a hot dog. You'll never forget it.

Menu has the burgers, fries, and shakes you'd expect from a place like this, but also some nice adds like an Elk burger, a BBQ "sloppy joe," a grilled chicken sandwich and even a grilled salmon sandwich. They also bring water bowls and "pup cups" for your dog. The diner's website further explains that they scratch-cook, so you'll wait a bit longer than similar roadside joints, but it's worth it. Nicely located near Lake Winona and its surrounding park, by the way. I liked the breaded fish sandwich and my wife enjoyed the BBQ. The restaurant also makes its root beer, which is almost worth the trip by itself. For families with young kids, there is a playground in the back behind the restaurant. My only dig is the surprisingly skimpy portions of the french fries, sweet potato fries, and such.
