Never returning. The lady taking my order had a nasty attitude for the whole interaction, I even asked if they forgot about me over the speaker at one point because it had been close to 15 minutes at that point and I hadn't gotten my drink or paid yet. The poor girl running out food and orders was so nice and looked like she wanted to cry when I asked her why I hadn't gotten my drink after 15-20 minutes of waiting and she was pleading that the kitchen staff was being ruthless and that there wasn't much she could do. She was very sweet I wish I caught her name. However the food was awful so it wasn't even worth the wait my chicken tenders were overcooked and rubbery and the root beer just wasn't right, it's a&w that's the one thing I thought I could count on. Maybe just a bad night but as somebody out of town I will be taking note to never return when I'm here for business trips. read more

Friday night fish is EXCELLENT ! Breakfasts are great, and the prices are very good, especially when compared to other restaurants. Service was very nice and friendly. Went here a couple of nights ago for the half price Coney's. Everything was decent. I was surprised how fresh the fries were, even after taking then home in this freezing cold weather!! The person lady who took the food out and served was pretty friendly. She also provided several condiments and I didn't even ask for them, which I thought was fantastic! I am thrilled to be able to enjoy an old school drive up A&W, and I hope they never tear this building down, but just make the adjustments as they need to do. I appreciate their friendly service and good food! Bought a gallon of root beer which is always great, but the only thing I'd have to say is that the syrup always settles to the bottom after opening the jug. You can't shake soda, so that is a bummer, but overall it has a great taste! read more

Our second drive in this week. Nowhere near as good as The Drive In in Baraga! We ordered from our car and waited...and waited...and waited! About 45 minutes for a Papa Burger, Chicken Tenders, Fries, Onion Rings, Chocolate Malt, and Root Beer Float. The Burger and Onion Rings were good, but the Tenders, Fries and Malt were underwhelming at best. A Root Beer was delivered instead of the Float. When we told them they did give us a small cup of soft serve so we could make a float. I don't think we'll go back due to the mediocre food and sloooooooowwwwwwww service! read more

Really enjoyed our stop at this A&W in La Crosse. We ate inside and had wonderful service. The root beer was delicious as always. My husband got the Papa Burger and I had the fish dinner. We both had the fried cheese curds. This was a first for us and delicious. Talking to the manager we found out the store opened in 1947. We would stop again if we're in the area. read more

An utterly confusing setup here at this location that I've never seen before. It's both a drive-in and a diner. So you can order from and eat in your car or you can go inside and have a regular dine in experience with a waiter. We opted for carry-out since we were kind of confused on how to order. I wasn't impressed with the menu selection or pricing, so I got the $3 large cheese fries. It was ok but I've had much better elsewhere. The burgers looked small for the price. I have been searching for a true A&W restaurant, for years. Finally discovering this place made me so happy. The food is great, and the root beer is even better. The food is priced well. Ok, so the rundown, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The food is surprisingly good. Nice flavor, good presentation, and just plain good old American noms. And of course the root beer is spectacular. The bad and the ugly. Place really needs a good deep cleaning. Dust around vents and grout that has more dirt and grease then grout. Even the basic daily cleaning, sweeping up the floors, wiping down the tables, etc. Well, that's not happening - and it's pretty quiet in here right now. Mustn't forget the flies. Because even though they are complimentary really don't do much for the ambiance. But the waiter was very nice and prompt. So 3 stars. read more

This place is great - been in business a long time. The wait staff knows a lot of the customer by name and also their favorite orders. There are a lot of people in town that go there for the Camraderie. It feels like family when we go there for breakfast. Recommend the breakfast for sure! Hate not being able to dine there due to the quarantine. Friday fish dinner is great! read more

I felt the advertising was a little misleading. Billed as an old fashioned stand, I was disappointed it worked more like a drive thru where you had to push a button to talk to a microphone and then someone ran your order out to you. It had none of the feeling of a good old fashioned a&w. Add to insult, we both had hankerings for root beer shakes, drove 15 minutes off I90 to get there, and they didn't have the capacity to make them. Only floats or freezies.. How can a root beer stand not be able to have a root beer flavored shake? This spot could use some creative thinking outside the box. Management needs to talk with other a&w stands to learn some tricks of the trade. Gives this American brand a bad name. read more

The food was amazing as usual with A&W, but the customer service was not the greatest. I walked in and waited 10 to 15 minutes just to be seated. I then sat there for another 3 to 5 minutes for a menu. I was finally given a menu and waited another 5 or so minutes to order. Once I ordered it seemed the staff was able to move at normal speed. Stopped for a quick bite and some root beer. Wow. Floors were filthy. Napkins and fries littered the floor, the corner booth had trash and food everywhere underneath it. Tables had not been wiped down (at least not very well). When my wife used the women's bathroom, one toilet was plugged, the other made a porta-toilet sparkle by comparison. I can see why there was only one other car in the lot at 6:30 on a Saturday night. As we couldn't see what the kitchen looked like, we didn't stay for any food. Filthy! read more
