A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by this Five Guys and ordered a couple of milkshakes to go. The restaurant was extremely busy and short staffed that day, and they had also run out of some of the items needed to make the shakes. I was on a time crunch, so I decided to ask for a refund instead. Anthony, the manager, genuinely tried to help even though he was clearly juggling a lot. Unfortunately, they couldn't get the register drawer open at the time, so I had to leave. I appreciated that he still took the time to try, especially with everything else going on. Today I came back and was helped by Rashika. She didn't make the process difficult at all. She didn't ask for a receipt or give me any pushback. She simply listened to what happened, apologized for the inconvenience, and immediately made it right by giving me two Five Guys gift cards to cover the shakes. That kind of customer service goes a long way. Rashika made me feel like my time and business mattered, and Anthony deserves credit as well for doing everything he could during a stressful shift. Mistakes happen, but it's how they're handled afterward that really stands out. Thank you both for turning a frustrating situation into a positive one. I'll definitely be back. read more

This is the 2nd time this restaurant closed early. Tonight they closed at 7pm, despite normal hours being until 10pm. I would not be posting this, but this is the second time in less than 60 days they were closed early. When they are open the food is generally good, as in the fries are often as good as other 5 guys but if you get there when they are slow you can get old fries. Chose to go here over In N Out and regretted it immediately. Came in around 9:15pm and had to wait to order because the kid working was "on his break" and neither of the cooks could take my order I guess? After his break was over, he took my order and when the $32 meal was done he handed it over to me. I mentioned I ordered a strawberry shake to which he said he didn't see it on the ticket. Showed him my receipt and he really replied with "the ice cream isn't cold so it's basically strawberry milk". Mind you these shakes aren't cheap here. At that point just offer me something else maybe? Idk man but getting home to be even more unsatisfied as my melted shake and lousy burger, which was also MADE WRONG, washed down by a small cup of over-priced fries did not hit the spot. When I came in it looked like 3 tables had a food fight with food pieces everywhere. As another reviewer said, the bun fell apart due to too much grease soaked into it. I had a terrible experience at the Five Guys in Arroyo Grande. The service was incredibly slow, and the staff seemed completely disinterested in their jobs. Five Guys is relatively new to this location in a newly remodeled shopping center. The burgers are pretty good. The Bacon Cheeseburger is my go to favorite. Two beef patties, two slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. I am currently on a Keto regiment, so I am ordering the Bacon Cheeseburger without the bun (in a bowl). I didn't have any fries this time around but my son did. He said they were excellent, although the last time I had them they were oily and soft like the were frozen, then thawed, then thrown in the fryer that wasn't hot enough. So they're hit and miss in the potato department. They restaurant is very clean and the restrooms were spotless on this particular visit. I feel the burger is good enough to keep me coming in, but I think next time I will try one of their hot dogs. And although, I can't partake of their Milkshakes while on Keto, they are EXCELLENT! I was craving a burger and didn't have the time or inclination to seek out a high-end burger restaurant, so I decided to give Five Guys a try instead. I've been hearing a lot about this chain lately, and was partial to In-N-Out before I moved to Europe, so why not check out its competition? Fear not, I'm not about to subject you to a Five Guys vs. In-N-Out point-by-point comparison. I'll just hit the high points of my experience here, and you can judge for yourself. Long story short: If UberEats went to Hogwarts and earned a license to apparate (thereby always bringing your food orders instantly and without wear and tear from time and driving) my ideal fast-food burger and fries combo would be a Double Double from In-N-Out paired with a large order of Five Guys fries. Short story just a bit longer: The burgers at Five Guys look good on paper, and it's tough not to like all the customization options The Guys give you. That said, the FG bun really kills their whole burger experience for me. The bun isn't really toasted, leaving your burger soggy and mushy under the weight of all the ingredients. That causes the burger not to stay together well, destroying the consistency with every bite. I shudder to think what it would take like if you actually took it (wrapped in its foil wrapper) for a 30 or 40 minute drive before eating it. Taking the burgers at FG alone, I couldn't in good conscience rate this place higher than two stars, however, the Five Guys fries are a horse of a totally different color! First up, their portion size is incredibly generous. How generous? two people can easily share a regular order of fries and still have some left over - unless they're Yelpers of course ;-) But wait, it gets better! Five Guys uses hand-cut Idaho potatoes that are oven-cooked, blanched in hot water, and fried in peanut oil. The result are the most addictive fast food fries since I tried my first taste of Mickey D's way back in the Day... Tip: The fries at Five Guys are tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside; they taste almost like they've been injected with delicious mashed potatoes :-) My bottom line: Considering the seriously sub-par burger quality along with the exceptional quality of the fries, I'm going to rate Five Guys three stars. I doubt I'll be back for one of their burgers, but I have no doubt that I'll be back for some more fries. read more

Another truly disappointing visit. I order 2 bacon cheese burgers and watches the guy throw the raw patties on the grill on a pile of grill scrapings and burnt debris. When I complained the cashier said -uh well we will be cleaning the grill later. I told her I did want it and to tell the cook that, that's disgusting. She said okay but didn't tell anyone. It seems they regularly don't clean the grill and joyfully cook their hamburgers on a dirty unclean grill. I advise everyone to stay away from the Aroyyo Grande 5 guys. Update: I have been here on 3 different occasions (convenience really) one online order and two in person orders. They have screwed up every single time. I give up. I know they are new to the area so they are still working out their kinks, but they messed up our order so bad. Example: my burger was a bacon cheeseburger, with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, pickles and jalapeño. I got no jalapeños, no grilled onions, and I received mushrooms (God, I hate mushrooms). I didn't open my food until I was home, so I didn't notice the screw up. Atmosphere is fun, I like the peanuts while you wait and customer service was friendly. So they have that going for them. They have been open for a few weeks now and at 5:30 the place wasn't busy, so I'm thinking that is a bad sign. Would I go back? Probably. This place was awesome. I came in around 1140 on a Thursday, and there was a steady stream of people coming and going. Service was amazing. Cashier playfully pushed the milkshake and I declined three times (can't do dairy anyway so whatever). My food came out fast and was delicious. Fries and burger were hot but not overdone. The service here is garbage, not just from one experience but I've been here quite a few times and they could really care less whether or not you're there. Now for the food. I love their fries, that is the best thing about this place. I love the burgers but for me the buns are a little too big and thick. And the most obvious thing about this place it is so overpriced. I mean $13.50 for a burger and fries without a beverage. That is crap! But it's one of the only places around here to get a decent burger. There is a better place though.... Like I wasn't even planning on comparing the two but their branding immediately made me compare them to In & Out. Like cmon, the red and white tiles, the old school menu board... The only thing different is this place is 4x the price lol oh ya and the burger is bland.... and was burnt. Who cares that the patty is a little bit wider and who cares about the bacon, mushrooms and jalapeños. Carl's Jr. has all that (honestly have had a better burger even at Carl's- just sayin.) For the price of one burger at Five Guys I can literally feed my whole family at In & Out (with fries and drinks) or get a 4x4 burger with change. I found myself looking for food late Monday night. Stopped at another place about 20 minutes before closing and was told they were done serving. By the time I saw Five Guys were open, it was only 5 minutes to closing. When I stuck my head in and asked if they were still serving, I got a friendly smile and a "Come on in!" Even the shake machine was ready for action. When my food came, I was told "I'm just letting you know that we're now closed, but feel free to take your time."
