I have heard people raving about Five Guys for years and had never gotten around to trying it. When I was hungry and passed by one the other day, I figured it was time to see what all the hype was about. That was the first and last time that I would ever eat at Five Guys. First of all, the ordering was awkward. Hubby and I walked in and I was asked how many patties I would be having, which was a bit confusing to me as I hadn't even looked over their menu yet. I told the girl at the counter that I wanted only one patty but with bacon and she said that their bacon cheeseburger comes with two patties. I only wanted one but she made it seem like that wasn't really an option so I agreed to the bacon cheeseburger as it comes. My husband ordered a hot dog. We also ordered a small fry to share, a drink for each of us, and I ordered a banana shake because someone I met recently insisted it was a must-have. We had some sticker shock when the total price for the items stated above was $39+ Considering what we ordered, this seemed really steep, but I had high hopes that the quality of the food would make up for it. Those hopes were quickly dashed, though. While we saw the sign stating where the potatoes had come from, the staff seems to have missed the mark on how to properly cook said potatoes as they were soft, mushy, and not tasty at all. In fact, both my husband and I agreed that the fries were basically inedible and we threw out the whole thing after just a couple bites. Hubby said his hot dog was pretty good, but it was after all, just a hot dog with some onions on it, which is rather hard to screw up. My burger was decent, but not necessarily good. I became really annoyed when after I started eating, I noticed several people ordering the small bacon cheeseburger. I had made it clear that I preferred only one patty on my bacon burger and instead of alerting me to the fact that there was an option for a smaller burger on the menu, the girl made it seem as if I wanted a bacon burger, I just had to deal with the two patties. Had she not made me feel like I needed to hurry up an order, which was the vibe she gave off, maybe I could have had a chance to see it on the menu for myself and order it, but unfortunately, this was not the case. The banana shake was tasty, but nothing to rave about. This was a colossal disappointment for me, which is why I will not return or recommend it to others. Part of the disappointment may come from the high expectations I had since so many people had raved about it, but either way in my opinion, nothing about the food or service even comes close to justifying the ridiculous hefty price tag. There are plenty of far better establishments at which to spend my money.

I always heard that five guys is expensive because the staff gets there early to prep fresh ingredients every day. I can respect that. I ordered a simple bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and mayonnaise. If I paid $8-$10 it would have been fine but I got a burger that didn't seem to have any seasoning, the bacon was over cooked and resembled bacon bits for a salad more than a strip of bacon, the lettuce had dark spots and seemed several days old. My total was $15 and change. Just a burger because to be honest I've had the fries before and they are soggy and half cooked. On paper it seems like I could have a great burger here but every time I give it a shot I feel like the price has gone up and the quality has gone down. I hope the staff is at least paid top dollar because they are the only thing that brings any value.

Five Guys has lost its taste and henceforth its grace. Why? They no longer salt or season their burgers. When I ask that they salt my burger while cooking it they tell me they are "not allowed". I can only attribute this to the brainwashing of Big Pharma. May Five Guys find the grace for taste again and go back to their original plan and burger recipe! Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. MATT 5:13 I saw this photo in the bathroom. Not while they have not salt! Fries still great! Thank God they have salt! And this particular Five Guys had my kinda music. For that deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball. Mark 16:17-18

So the best five dollar hamburger is now ten dollars? Okay it has better be a darn good burger. So was it? Nope. Not even a full burger. Was about 2/3 of a full burger. No kidding, at least 1" of bun exposed the burger was so small Fries were undercooked. The tables were filthy. Sorry. No go, no more.

    Amazing fries

The location was clean, there are only a few tables and bar seats, (no alcohal) there are several TVs playing different things (the guy at the counter turned on the Minecraft movie for my son while we ate!! Super nice. My oldest and I order the Gouda burger... and my youngest ordered the hot dog. All with fries. (Prices seemed a bit high but honestly it was more than worth it!) The food came out pretty fast... and it looked awesome! (See pictures) the Gouda burger has lettuce, tomato, onion, Gouda, bacon, and shoe string potato chips on top of a good sized black angus patty. This was maybe the best burger I have had since I moved to GA! How are people not swarmed all over this establishment eating here! This was amazing! It was "ohhhhhh my Goddie to dam Hottie!!!" The burger was juicy and packed with amazing flavor! The addition of the shoe strings grave it a crunch that I just loved! I didn't even put catchup on it... I ate it as they brought it... nothing added nothing removed. It was phenominal! My son's hit dog was huge.. and loaded with condiments... onion, tomato's, relish on a monster dog. He couldn't finish it. The fries need to be cooked in hotter oil so that they get crispy.. some were kinda crisp some were not and salt the fries! The fries were ok... but the burger more than made up for it! I'm telling you this is burger heaven! If you're looking for the best burger around head on over to the Burger Factory... I know I'm going back to try a different offering soon!

There are several tables but it looked like they do a lot of takeout business. I like that there is a screen to order from or you can order at the counter. There seemed to be lots of parking too. The tater tots and mozzarella sticks were really good. Perfectly crispy! The mozzarella sticks didn't seem straight out of the freezer like at most places but the little cup of marinara was really cold. I ordered the salmon over brussels sprouts because I don't eat meat. (They do have a mushroom sandwich for vegetarians.) The salmon was perfectly cooked, and it also had tomatoes, nuts/seeds, and fried onions so the flavors and textures were great. It came with a sauce on the side that was yummy. The only annoying thing was that I got my food way after everyone else. Two friends got burgers, one got the spicy chicken sandwich, and one got the steak sandwich. All really enjoyed theirs but noted they are very messy to eat. One friend was annoyed that she didn't see salmon on the menu, but it is kind of hard to find! I only knew because I looked at the order screen and saw the salmon section. I think three of us had leftovers. Overall we enjoyed our meals and the prices weren't outrageous.

The driveway from Hwy 9 has a huge pot hole so be careful while pulling into the parking lot. Walking in, it's a nice big space with lots of Room. There are high chair areas and normal seat areas with lots of big screen TVs. I definitely would love to watch some NFL tv while eating lunch here. You seat yourself here and get your own drinks and condiments. Sorta reminded me of a smaller verison of the Magic Kingdom food court. I ordered the Green Mile burger which came with the following: Single Beef Patty Pepper Jack cheese "The Sauce" Green Chilies Mashed Avocado Baby Arugula I opted to get the sweet potato fries side which came with a drink. I will say this place is more on the pricey side but what isn't these days. You will be paying close to $18-$20 for a burger, fries, and a drink here. But then again 5 Guys and other fast food places will be in the $10-$18 range as well. I really enjoyed my burger as it was very tasty and flavorful. The portion is decent and on the medium size. Not small but not super big. I really enjoyed the sweet potato fries here. The sweet tea here was amazing and I really did enjoy it. All in all, I enjoyed eating here as you get up to get your own refills. I probably will come back and try a different burger next time I am in the area.

If this is all you will enjoy here - this is a 5-star establishment. Location in Avalon is another strong point of this establishment. Super convenient, although small. Food - is just not good. If you are drunk - then it is all right, otherwise it just doesn't cut it. I had hot dog - and I must say $1.50 Costco hot dog is way better. Wings - below average. Chicken tenders - the same. Fries are probably the best thing here. Service - just terrible. Outside of bartenders who are pretty happy and funny, the rest of service is hit or miss. First time I visited was awful. Second time around I had to walk up to server to place an order and ended up getting wrong beer multiple times on refills (how is getting the same refill a problem?). So 3-stars for this review is me being generous on account of great beer. I will however never order food here again.

There was live music outside and the patio areas were packed. Where we sat inside though had a few tables open and we were sat right away at 7pm on a Friday night. No complaints there. This is a great place for families and it's super loud inside and out so bring the kids and let them go nuts. I think the let down for me was the food. They are known for their burgers but for some reason I ordered the "Nashville Hot" chicken sandwich. I LOVE this sandwich and if I see it on the menu I tend to order it. I put the name in quotes because this was NOTHING like a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. This was a fried chicken sandwich with a squeeze of hot sauce and honey. Absolutely horrible. The breading fell off immediately and it was just gross, greasy and slippery. No flavor, no heat. The second disappointment were the onion rings. Greasy, Soggy, mushy, and again, the breading immediately fell off. They were like eating fried spaghetti. The final letdown was the service. Our server was nice when she greeted us, but we saw her maybe once during our meal. Never filled our drinks and she checked on us once during our meal. The food took 45 minutes to come to our table. I am not sure if she was new. Tonight in general was just a bust. On the bright side, my wife said that her meal was good. Lesson learned. Stick to the burgers and fries.
