I love eating at Five Guys when I get the chance, where I live have none within a reasonable travel distance. My last experience at a location in Lancaster wasn't the greatest. This location is different. Location is easy to find, and it's a much larger Five Guys than usual, lots of room to sit. As I arrived, I saw two Coke Freestyle machines which made this visit instantly worth it. We walked in before the rush of the dinner crowd and got immediate service from a good staff. Food was delicious, burgers and fries were perfect. The Coke Freestyle machines were great and had Pibb, had my first experience with Pibb Cherry, and got to have a nice chat with an employee who likes Pibb also. Just because a place is a chain does not mean that it's the same from location to location. Such is Five Guys in Allentown. Normal geography would put me at the Five Guys in Bethlehem when frequenting this chain but lately I've been to the Allentown location twice and it's not even close and the locals know it. First of all, compared to Bethlehem this location is always deserted. Second the fries are usually rock-hard and a bit chilly and the food takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to come even though there is no one there. The burgers are still pretty good and yes you still leave smelling like fryer grease. Even the "Got It" from the staff is not nearly as enthusiastic. If you gotta do Five Guys go to the Bethlehem location as this location doesn't "Got It". read more

Generally we get great food. This time i was disappointed. Condiments on the side, missing mayo and only one drop of steak sauce for a "lite" order. Extra pickles constituted 5 pickles. No grilled onions as ordered. Fries were only cooked once, they were a soft and mushy pile of grease. The restaurant was busy, but I will gladly wait for my order to be cooked completely and to order as it should be. I see a trend with slipshod work in a lot of restaurants right now. Just want to share the AWFUL experience I had last night at Five Guys on Tilghman Street. They close at 10PM, so I walked in at 9:40PM (and was getting it to go anyway, so that's irrelevant). The girl that was making the burgers asked what I was getting and I told her exactly what I wanted and she was very pleasant and nice and started making it. Then "Akeem" this other girl barges through the one door and sighs very loudly with an attitude and then throws her keys off to the side onto the floor, and mumbles "I guess I ain't fucking going home now". Then glares up at me and asked how she could help me while she's staring me down with a look like she wanted to punch me. Honestly, at that point I would have told her to just forget it, seeing as it caused her such a damn hissy fit to even walk over. But the other girl was already making it so I wasn't going to do that. I was still polite and told her my order as she continued to stare me down (lol). Uncomfortable as hell, and NEVER going back there again. What an awful atmosphere - god forbid you would have to DO YOUR JOB! I'd advise everyone if your going anytime at night to go to another Five Guys or go somewhere else as they deserve NO business with people that act like that and treat paying customers like that. read more

I'm not sure why this place has taken a beating here on Yelp. One reviewer noted that it's "East Coast's answer to In and Out." A very astute observation. Burgers are what quick service, classic "fast food" burgers should be. Thin patties, juicy, and excellent (fresh) toppings. While I think In-n-Out wins on the burger front, this place owns fries hands down. Fresh cut, nicely fried (with the skins on) this is what unprocessed fries taste like. (Note: that's potatoes. Fries are supposed to taste like potatoes.) The portions are quite large. A standard hamburger is two patties. A regular fry is one cup plus another scoop. Two little hamburgers and a regular fry make a nice lunch for two. Go bigger if you dare...but you will leave rather full. read more

I was about to head to Wegmans to do my grocery shopping, but my stomach began to grumble, and I know better than to shop hungry at Wegmans. Luckily there is a Five Guys across the street, and we realized that we'd never been to that location before. We've eaten at the Airport Road and Nazareth locations but never here until this weekend. As far as set up, I like this location the best. This one doesn't have the monster line that runs between a bunch of tables, which feels kind of claustrophobic. This one has an open lobby in front of the registers with the tables to the side. It also appeared cleaner & newer than the other two in the Valley (though this is the oldest one). Props to the employees for keeping it spic & span. This is definitely a 5 star takeout burger. It is not gourmet or crazy ambitious, but the toppings are fresh & the beef is decent. And I've actually never had a problem with a greasy burger here (which is what keeps me from most fast food). The hubs & I each get a little hamburger or cheeseburger and we share the smallest fry. And that smallest fry is ridiculously large and we end up throwing away half of it. I wish they offered a more reasonable portion, but alas, I guess I'll just be a bit wasteful and throw away the excess. I go for ketchup, Mr K goes for the vinegar, and we chomp down for 10 minutes until we are ridiculously full. I think a lot of people don't like the fries because they actually taste like potatoes, unlike fast food places or diners that serve frozen reincarnations. read more

I find that in the end... when you are searching for the perfect burger that doesn't require you to sit down and wait a half an hour... there can be nothing closer to fresh take-out burger perfection than Five Guys Burgers and Fries. How I heard of this place: The first I had heard of Five Guys was when the first one opened in Seattle. This visit was on our way to Camelback Water Park in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Ambiance: Five Guys prides themselves, simply, on quality, service and cleanliness. The rest is just fluff. White with red and black accents, Five Guys is a recognizable franchise throughout the United States and Canada. Even the font used for the logo is simple, classic and unpretentious. Patrons are welcomed graciously to the counter, where three young guys are happily calling out orders and going out of their way to make our experience enjoyable and easy! The simple menu the same: Burgers, dogs, sandwiches, fries and drinks (in two sizes: regular or large). Fluorescent lights shine brightly, but the sun streams in through the floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides of the establishment. Large boxes of shelled peanuts, piled high are availble at a bar-height table in the front, in case of long lines and rumbling tummies. Chairs and tables are found throughout the clean, white space. Orders are called and your lunch awaits in a brown paper bag packed with greasy goodness. No plates, no silverware, just paper cups for fries, foil-wrapped burgers, brown paper bags and white napkins. What I ordered: I enjoyed the Little Bacon Cheeseburger ($5.59) with all the toppings! My husband ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger ($7.09) with grilled onions and BBQ sauce. An regular-sized ($2.99) order of Cajun Fries, sides of BBQ sauce and ketchup, and we were set to go! Our dining companions also enjoyed their burgers with fries and fountain sodas. What I loved: The fries are to die for! Thick-cut and spiced with cajun seasonings, even those missing the seasoning, melt in your mouth. Freshly fried, served in a large cup and good to the last bite! These are not the type of fries you have to start with or find that they have gone limp and stale. One can enjoy them from the beginning to the satisfying, finger-licking end. I always love the juicy burger and this trip was no exception. Who am I to judge a review someone else has given, but I can only point out that some are unfairly comparing Five Guys to the what the Holy Grail of burgers should be. It is a bit like comparing a Peter Luger steak to an Outback Steakhouse steak; it's apples and oranges. Five guys is selling a package deal to you; a fast, novelty atmosphere....fresh (not frozen) burger, and larger portion sized burgers and fries (but going along with that does come price as well). The burger I got was very good* (notice the star there). Was it greasy, yes a bit....but if I were in a shopping mall where every fast food restaurant was side by side by side.....I would consider Five guys at the top of the list, if not the very top choice *** Again...in the realm of fast food! The topping choice is superior, the fries are very good, but must admit that fry portion was inconsistant the two times I've been there. The interaction between the staff yelling out loud is part of the fun of the place. Listen, if you are looking for something more on the gourmet side, you're not going to find it here. These are the only fast food burgers I will eat. The toppings are fresh and I love that you can pick what goes on the burger. I love the fries. Nothing beats fresh cut potatoes fried, they are delicious! I think the fries are what keep me coming back. I am giving Five Guys 4 stars because this particular location is not consistent on their fries portions. A regular is a cup and a scoop, a large is a big cup and 2 extra scoops. Depending on the day the portions are different. We have been burned a few times on a to go order where they don't put the scoops in the bag and we are left with less of the tasty fries to share. I don't care for this location at all. I love Five Guys, and have tried several locations. This one, to me, was the worst. The service wasn't very good, and it took quite a while to get our order. Our order was also incorrect, but not so much so that we said anything about it. Our fries were gross. They were soggy and luke-warm, like they had been sitting out for quite a while. That was really upsetting, because I love Five Guys fries. Our burgers were no better. They were completely grease soaked. I understand that it's a burger, and it's not meant to be health food, but I also don't need a literal pool of grease for my bottom bun to sit in. It literally fell apart it was so oily. This location is closer to my house than the Airport Rd., but I'd rather take the extra few minutes and drive to that location. At least there the food is edible. read more

Five Guys is a great addition to Allentown. First off, they are no where near the poor quality you would get at McDonald's. Burgers are supposed to be meaty and juicy. If you called it greasy, guess what, most burgers are not made from 100% lean beef - not even Red Robin or Ruby Tuesday can make that claim. So, all burgers will be a bit 'greasy' for most people's taste, unless of course, you go to McDonald's for their pressed patties. Back to Five Guys. I had the regular Bacon Cheese burger and loaded it. The meat was very tender and juicy and had a soft bun. Little Cheeseburger Review For reviewing purposes, there's really no "signature" burger, so I ordered the same thing I always get: A Little Cheeseburger (2 patties) with mayo, mustard, raw onion, lettuce, and pickles. To me, this is a quintessential comfort burger. What's more, Five Guys burgers feel like a homemade burger, and are made to order, personalized down to any detail you wish. Maybe that's partly why they're so popular. Other topping options include tomato, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, relish, jalapeños, green peppers, A.1. sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. So as you can see, the flavor combinations you can formulate are quite extensive. After nearly filling up on delicious, free self-serve peanuts after ordering (Tip #1: don't fill up on the free peanuts), your burger and fries will come in a large brown paper bag, no matter if you ordered it to go or not. This brown paper bag will eventually begin to show grease spots in the bottom from the generous portion of fries in the bottom, overflowing out of the cups they were scooped into. Eating at Five Guys can be a somewhat messy affair. The fries are greasy, the burger is greasy, and they don't skimp on toppings either, so here's Tip #2: Grab lots of napkins. Tip #3: upon sitting at your table, remove the burger(s) from inside the bag, and dump the fries into the bottom of the bag, removing the paper cup they came in. Lay the bag on its side, then rip it open lengthwise, exposing the delicious fries inside. This will keep your fries hot and contained in one area. You're welcome. The patties, as always, are cooked nicely. They have just the right amount of char around the edges from the griddle, and have a nice beefy flavor. They're greasy, but not bun-soakingly so. Speaking of the bun, theres nothing terribly remarkable about it, but it's exactly what it needs to be. Just a nice soft, white bun to hold the amazing stuff inside. As I mentioned previously, I order the same toppings almost every time: mayo, mustard, raw onion, lettuce, and pickles. Your choices may very well be different than mine, however I have yet to find fault with any topping I've ever ordered at Five Guys; yet another anecdote to their consistency from location to location. Now, as for the fries, these are among the best I've ever had. They mimic town fair fries so closely, and Five Guys even offers malt vinegar to sprinkle and/or dip the them into. To be cheesy for a second, the fries taste like home in every single bite: crispy and crunchy, yet soft and fluffy on the inside. Five Guys does not skimp on french fry portions.
