I attempted to pay with a $50 bill for a total of just over $42, and they refused to accept cash. This isn't the first time this has happened here. Refusing legal tender is not only bad customer service -- it's also illegal in the state of Pennsylvania, which has a law requiring businesses to accept cash. This is not just inconvenient -- it's exclusionary. Not everyone uses cards or mobile payments, and U.S. currency is, by law, legal tender for all debts, public and private. I hope Smashburger corporate addresses this issue and brings this location into compliance. I encourage others who experience this to report it. We made a quick stop at Smashburger and overall had a solid experience. I had a single burger with fries and an Oreo milkshake--everything was fresh and came out fast. The double burger with bacon, fries, and Oreo shake was also a hit. I was a little bummed they didn't have honey for the sweet potato fries--that would've taken them to the next level. We went on a Wednesday and the girl working the register didn't give us the discount with the comment "you have to say specifically ask that you want the kids discount". Ordered here a few times for take out. Dined inside this occasion which there were less than 10 customers seated. Clean and neat seating area. Got the double smash burger with no lettuce and tomatoes. Added pickles and tarter tots as a side. The staff came over and delivered the burger and tarter tots arrived in a tray. The display was surprisingly very appealing - the American cheese melted on the patties with pickles and red onions topped it. Kind of crazy paying seven dollars for just this burger with the fries and drink being additional. At a regular Steak and Shake location their version of a Regular Smash and fries would sell for four bucks plus the drink. Here it's more like nine dollars plus the drink. Why? It's more or less the same thing. Oh wait I forgot. These are supposed to be I guess more "gourmet" burgers than the competition. Of course gourmet in French means we charge you more for the same thing as our competitors because we dress up the menu descriptions and make it sound like you're somehow getting more than you really are. In other words, we pander to you like you're an idiot and then wait for the sheeples to keep coming back. I'm not a fan of Five Guys but they kick this place's ass. A regular Steak and Shake will sell you the same basic stuff for half the price. The Burger Shack in Whitehall runs rings around this place in terms of quality, customer service at the point of ordering and actually having a clean store. If you're a hipster/yuppie/Jersey-LI transplant/McMansion owner who is in the mood for a nice overpriced and pretentious burger and fries here's you're spot. Anybody with a brain will go somewhere else for better food that costs in most cases a lot less. read more

Visited Smashburger for the first time after driving by it many times. Id also heard good things about Smashburger as a franchise. I had the classic Smashburger, Smash fries and an Oreo Milkshake. Total was about $14. Not exactly fast food prices, but to be expected as this isnt exactly fast food. Comparable to Five Guys Burgers. Burger was good, cooked fresh, got it with all the toppings that come with it on the menu (ie. lettuce, tomato, onion), although you can add any number of other toppings you want. (i wanted to keep it simple and their classic since it was my first). The burger tasted like a nice, fresh, clean burger, similar to something you'd make at home on the grill. toppings all seemed fresh. Smashfries were really good tossed in rosemary, garlic and olive oil. they also had just plain ones and sweet potato. they tasted similar to parmesan / truffle fries to some degree. The Oreo shake was somewhat disappointing, although it was exactly what it was supposed to be. For $5, it just tasted like a vanilla ice cream with Oreos mixed in (which is OK, nothing special), but the size seemed small for the cost. the cup looked pretty small, although the bottom said 16oz. For that cost, most other places ive been to would give you a much larger size. I wouldnt order another milkshake there for that reason. The restaurant was clean and the service was fast and friendly. plenty of seating inside and out, clean bathrooms and plenty of parking outside. I have only ordered from this location a total of four times so far: #1: First time, we ordered in person and it was for four sandwiches to go. It was amazing and we had no complaints. #2: We ordered in person to go and by the time we got home, realized that we were missing a sandwich and a side. The food also did not taste fully cooked and this whole meal was disappointing. #3: We ordered in person to go and they handed us two bags. We asked if this was everything and they said yes. We took a minute to review the order at the table after it was given to us since the bags seemed small. Good thing we did as they completely forgot all three sides and a burger so we told them that. Their response was "oh." We had to wait an additional few minutes for these; it seemed like they were making it like a new order. Despite the glitch, the food tasted great. #4: I ordered online from the website for pick up. When we went to pick it up, we saw that there were 2 bags waiting for us with our name on it. I wanted to check the contents, but the person who handed these to us said that yes, everything was in there. I took these to the car, but insisted on opening the bags to check as I was not convinced. Sure enough, they had forgotten one of the sides we ordered so I went back inside with both bags and they put my missing side in a third bag. Again, the food tasted great. So my summary? Food is awesome, but insist on checking your order if you are buying it to go since they have a tendency to forget items and there doesn't seem to be any system to ensure that all items are complete. Fries were not hot and not much flavor. Had to clear my own table before sitting down from the previous guests. Music was obnoxious and not conducive to eating. My girlfriend just had a burger here. Like another reviewer, she noticed the saltiness, but it wasn't too salty for her. The only negative report: They put cheese on her burger, despite her specifically asking for no cheese. Service was very fast. People were helpful & friendly. The burger was very good (she doesn't say that about many burgers). I personally got nothing here; the place isn't vegan-friendly (the fry oil is beef tallow), but I am NOT letting that impact the rating I'm giving, as I expected as much (especially after seeing the interior signage marketing of their beef). Unfortunately the manager did a triple take when I walked in with my family (he must have looked at my profile pic when I left the negative review) and didn't even have the decency to take a few seconds to at least offer me an in person apology (which I would have done) but instead vanished right after I got my food which was odd. They had one girl taking care of both take out and eat in orders, that caused a delay in getting orders out. My fish was cold because they left the super ridiculously salty haystack onions for way after fish was ready. Milkshake was more like chocolate milk. This is my second time here, didn't like the messiness the first time & I figured I'd give it another try thinking it may have been a one time thing, definitely not going back. An increase in business travel has given me the opportunity to reacquaint myself with the wonderful world of fast food. I've undoubtedly eaten more burgers in the past two months than I had eaten in the two prior years. Driving home from an early meeting in central PA, I gave Smashburger a try. I had heard of the Smashburger approach to differentiating itself from a bazillion competitors. Purportedly fresh Black Angus beef is seared on a flat-top grill, then flattened into a patty for further cooking. In addition to the more common toppings, Smashburger also offers sauteed mushrooms, guac and truffle mayo as supporting players. Their menu boasts of a variety of artisan buns, each contributing to the "elevated burger" slant. My order was for a Bacon Double Smash (two burgers, extra bacon and American cheese) and a medium fountain Coke; an "elevated" $11.32 with sales tax included. Delivered, all on an undersized bun, was certainly an abundance of bacon, lettuce, cheese and tomato accompanying two very flat (and very under-seasoned) beef patties. I almost never add salt at the table, but in this instance the addition was unavoidable. Favorably, the beef was freer of bits of grizzle than are most commercial burgers. There was a distinctive flavor, but not what I would describe as a beefy character. The texture was spongy, yet the quantity of grease released, significant. This made for a very soggy roll. As an assembled sandwich, the flavors failed to harmonize. Smashburger's rendition of a burger epitomizes the classic diner "greasy spoon" burger, minus the "charm" of an authentic diner, yet at a significantly higher price. It is a grungy, roll-up-the-sleeves dining experience, appreciated for what it is, even for a guy wearing an expensive dress shirt (it survived the experience unscathed). Yet, rather than the grease, it was the location of the self-service soda fountains that registered as off-putting. Secreted away in a narrow corridor opposite the doors to the rest rooms just isn't an appealing place for eatables. Server Joseph took my counter order and brought the cooked lunch to my table. He was friendly, polite and seemed to be concerned with making a positive contribution to the dining experience. Located in an area of multiple large shopping malls, there was plenty of nearby parking, and easy access to US 222. I'll "file" Smashburger in that category of guilty pleasure fast food stops; certainly different, although not a chain that I would go out of my way to seek. read more

Well - pretty simple. Chain restaurant in Hamilton Crossings. Food average at best - prices outrageous for this type of establishment. Biggest issues here, staff is clueless and the orders are always wrong - prices are often incorrect and they overcharge customers always, watch yourself. Short staffed constantly and long lines - not sure why, but most likely because few alternatives. In addition, don't ever try to order via their app, it is horrible and non-functional, crashes, creates errors and not all products are even listed - forget getting your food in a timely manner, using rewards or asking staff. But they will charge you. Burgers are greasy and fries are nothing impressive, go to BJs next door - not the greatest either but at least the food is better quality and most staff have a brain. read more

Terrible. Initially couldn't even register for the ordering app because I was getting an invalid country code error. There was no field for the country code. Here, it wanted me to enter a 1 in front of my phone number. I finally register and look for my local location. It's not showing up on their map. Every other location is on the map but the one I need. This isn't new store. I can't order on the app, but the app shows the store phone number. I call the store to order, and they tell me they don't take phone orders. The manager tells me its because their POS won't send a ticket to the kitchen until an order is paid. So it's my problem you have an inferior POS? What quick service restaurant in the 21st century doesn't take phone orders? Ridiculous. I refuse to walk in and order because there's always a long line. I went here for the first time ever with my husband for a date night. He swears these are some of the best burgers he's ever had and wanted me to try. Well I did, and it was delightful. It was cooked to perfection and the ingredients were fresh. After we devoured our burgers, we decided to get some shakes as dessert. I made sure to save room because I love ice cream, and this milkshake was no different. It was wonderful as well! Recollecting about it makes me want to go now and get another one! The restaurant itself was clean. Staff was walking around clearing & cleaning tables and asking how our meals were tasting. I was pretty impressed since this is a fast food place. Worst food pick up experience I've ever had. Order was wrong. I called and they don't ever answer the phones. Packed up the food and took it back. I explained to a server who then did nothing and ignored me, didn't provide a solution or get a manager. Finally got them to get what I think was an assistant manager who questioned me instead of apologizing. After arguing with me for a while he took the old food and went to the back. I assumed to remake the order. After a while he came back out and asked me why there were bites out of the burgers?! How do you think we found out it was wrong? I want to start by saying that it is very hard to disappoint me with a burger. I am generally happy even with a sub-par burger, but this experience has literally been the worst. The "hand rolled ball of meat" as quoted by the restaurant was so dry and flavorless I could barely swallow it. The only present flavor was an exuberant amount of salt guaranteed to give even the most fit human being a heart attack. The bun was stale, and clearly had failed at trying to be softened by the ridiculous amount of butter added to it. I'm not even going to get into the rest of my families opinions here. But was the quality of "food" the worst part? NO!, why would we stop there? four meals were ordered, and not a single one was correct, doubles as singles, regular fries for specialty fries, items not even received.
