I got my first taste of Five Daughters a few years ago around Christmas time at their East Nashville location. My husband and the friends we were with ordered a bunch of different flavors to taste, and we loved pretty much everything--of course with a few favorites that stood out. We've been to this one many times since they initially opened, and I have to say that we keep coming back whenever we're in the area and pass by because the donuts are decent. But there's just something about these that don't seem to be as good as what we had in Nashville. Flavors tend to sell out quickly, and it seems like the donuts are a little dry if you don't come earlier in the day, especially when it's cold outside. But we also fully acknowledge that this is a walk-up window and the donuts are delivered here from their local kitchen, so we kind of know what to expect with that model as well. Anyway, can't go wrong with the Purist donut, whether the vegan or non-vegan option. The employees are typically kind and helpful if you have questions about flavors. Overall, great business. Pro tip: the vegan options are on the lower shelf & have the lavender label. They don't say vegan in the name, but if you read the fine print it says "made with vegan ingredients" below-- you might miss it if you don't look carefully! We got the apple fritter & birthday cake. Fritter was very yeasty (not sure exactly how to describe)-- not dense with the crispy outer crust of a traditional fritter & no glaze. There was only 1 chunk of apple. So that was a bummer. A friend told me that her favorite donut spot is Five Daughters so I had to check it out. The website notes that they sell croissant style hundred layer donuts. It also notes that the croissant donuts are made fresh every day. This shop is located in Westside Provision. If you see flower child, you need to walk to the stairs in the area and you should run into it on your left. If you are only visiting this spot, there are several 10 min parking spots in front of the shop. I arrived about 15 minutes prior to closing today (Saturday). There were plenty of options to pick from. I ended up going for the chocolate eclair flavor. I opted to eat this in my car. First bite- uhmmmm- I don't get the hype. Second bite- it's dry. Third bite- croissant? Donut? I don't know! Overall the croissant donut was just ok in my book. I honestly would not have to have another one. Now, I must say that my taste buds may just be off because this place has rave reviews. As such, I would recommend giving them a try and judging for yourself! Many highly touted donut shops have been disappointing me lately. Their instagrammable donuts are works of art, but turn out to be excessively doughy, dry, and devoid of enough filling. But I'm happy to say that FIVE DAUGHTERS breaks this trend! Their donuts are delicious! They basically serve multi-textured hybrid "cronuts" that are extremely flaky, light, fresh, and very flavorful. We very much enjoyed the Maple Glaze, Hot Chocolate, White Chocolate Raspberry, Cinnamon Cream Cheese, and Purist flavors. The Maple Glaze is the absolute winner; highly recommended! Then I learned about their Westside provisions location and really enjoy coming to this location. It's small but it's so quick to get to and get your things and go. I usually get the king Kong and the chocolate sea salt. I was happy to see some new flavors that I haven't seen before and today I decided to go with the molasses pecan pie and got the chocolate sea salt. Both were really good! I even noticed that they now have cookies. And I decided to get a cookie when I noticed that they had a little basket with discount cookies from the previous day. Is the perfect way to try something new to see if you would like it. I ended up with the molasses gingerbread I believe it was. It was a pretty good cookie. I would be open to trying the other flavors as well. Donuts cost between $5 & $6 and are totally worth it. The layers and the cream that's inside is amazing. Let me start with the fact that I am from Tennessee so I have tried the original location in Nashville several times as well as this location I am reviewing and the one at Ponce city market in Atlanta. This review will need to be very nuanced because there are some things they do great and some things that need work. I will discuss the housekeeping topics to get them out of the way before discussing the donuts themselves. The theming and color scheme they use is actually great. Very cute pink and light teal boxes and signage. The insides of the non kiosk stores are very nice overall, somewhat reminiscent of crumbl. This particular location is a kiosk style built into the side of west side provisions which serves its purpose. The staff is always friendly and fast service. On to the donuts. Their concept is at its base a croissant-style "100 layer donut". The good : the purist glazed donut is one the best "glazed " donuts I have ever had. If I were rating that donut alone it would be 5/5 easy. That actually goes for all of their non filled donuts I've had , the flaky texture of their donuts is delicious. You really can't go wrong with one of those options. On this particular day I got a purist (the original glazed ) and a strawberry fields option, both very yummy. Not too sweet base donut with a nice , strawberry topping , very authentic tasting, not artificial tasting at all. Now to the not so good : I've tried several of their "filled " donuts at several different locations so I think the issue really is the recipe. From their vanilla cream to any of their seasonal cream filled (on this day I opted for the chocolate pumpkin cheesecake) the problem resides with the consistency of the filling. It always ends up tasting very much like unsweetened butter with globs of oil throughout, I've had this experience every time. It leaves a very oily, buttery, salty not sweet taste in your mouth. I do believe they need to revamp the filling recipe to add some type of confectioner sugar to add sweetness and body to the filling. If I were rating the "filled " donuts alone it would be 1/5, would not recommend those as they are now. So I'd say if you find yourself at a 5 daughters location opt for a deliciously flaky "non filled " option as those are very good. read more

O.M.G. It is mind blowing that Five Daughters Bakery isn't listed as the best donuts in Georgia. Granted, I haven't tried all Georgia has to offer in terms of donuts, but these are BY FAR the best that I have tried. It can be kind of tricky to find. It's in the Westside Provisions District, right before or right after crossing the bridge over the railroad, depending on which side you're coming from. Here are the donuts we tried, ranked in order of preference: - Chocolate Sea Salt - Purist - Maple Glazed Chocolate Sea Salt and Purist were pretty much tied. The layers in all of them are perfect. The glazes just melt in your mouth. The outside has a perfect crunchiness to it. Somehow they even put flavor and filling on the inside. As these are only the second croissant donuts I've tried, I'm certainly no expert, but these knock it out of the park. The other one I've tried doesn't even come CLOSE. I don't know how much they cost because the signs were blocked by the donuts in the display. It appears prices range from $2.50-$4.50. They also have vegan and paleo donuts available. These are the most amazing donuts. Disclaimer that we only tried their croissant donuts (also known as 100 layer donuts). But I would go back tomorrow to try more. I tried 4 donuts and most enjoyed the strawberry lemon shortcake, it was fantastic. The triple raspberry was also good but the filling was a bit too tart. The apple fritter was good but I wish it was a little more moist and soft. I did not like the Boston cream because the chocolate frosting was bitter and the cream wasn't sweet. read more
