First time ever coming here. Me and my wife made it a date night . It's about an hour away from us, but had heard people talk about it, so finally decided to come! It's in a very small town, hardly anything at all but it seems this is the best place to come. We came in on a Friday night at around 6 and it was just starting to get busy. We did not have reservations but they were still able to get us in with no wait. The hostess was very friendly and informative. It didn't take long after we were seated for our waitress to greet us and take our drink order. Soon after our drinks were delivered we were brought bread and our food order was taken. I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye which according to the menu is a "20-22oz bone in Ribeye". However, there was no bone in the Ribeye I received. I also added 2 quail medallions which are quail breasts stuffed with cream cheese, jalapeños and wrapped in bacon. As my sides, I ordered a side house salad and cowboy potatoes. Over all, the meal was very tasty, every thing I ordered, especially the steak (even though I think they gave be a regular ribeye instead of the Cowboy ribeye). You can tell they cook the steaks over an open flame, rather than just a flat top grill. A suggestion to the restaurant is with the steak knives. Both my wife and I got dull knives, which made cutting our steaks very difficult. My wife ordered the New York Strip. I won't write out my wife's opinion of her steak, but the only thing I will say from my perspective is that it was undercooked by about 2 temperatures. Overall, we enjoyed our date night here and are glad we came, but the in our opinion, although the food was good, there was nothing that just really stood out that we felt we could only get from here, that we would want to drive an hour out here again. If we are ever in the area though, we would definitely come back again, the food was good, just not extraordinary. The reason for 3 stars is that although my steak was good, it was the wrong steak. The knives were really dull and made cutting the steak very difficult. My wife's steak was two temperature undercooked and the bathrooms were very dirty. read more

We almost always get take- out and usually have nothing really to complain about. I felt like I had to write about a $12.99 salad that was the exact same as my husband's side salad that came with his dinner. $22.99 for the 2 piece grilled pork chops plus 1 side salad= $38.77. 5D is usually our go-to place for special occasions. We took our mom tonight for Mother's Day, haven't been in about a year. Not sure what's happened but this isn't the 5D we used to know. It was Saturday night, which is usually packed full of people, and the place was dead. First red flag. Second, we have our menus replaced with one that has expo marker all over it noting the items that "weren't available". Which was 95% of the menu. Asked the owner what was going on, she got defensive and stated the vendors they used to get the steaks from have become too "expensive." Which is interesting because every steak on the menu is over $36, and with the business this place was getting? Just didn't make sense to us. The steaks we did up getting were, no exaggeration, the worst steak I've ever had in my life. The waitress apologized and comped our tab as the owner wouldn't even come back out to speak to us again. Avinger, Texas has a population of 353. On some weekend nights, 5D Steakhouse seems to have at least that many happy people passing through the doors. Customers don't seem to mind driving for miles to reach this out-of-the-way town to enjoy a fine steak. The place has been around for years and it just keeps growing. It now encompasses an entire, albeit tiny, city block. We visited on a Tuesday night and avoided the crowds. The tender filet steak is full of smoky flavor. Majority of the menu is not available and the steaks that are served are tough and stringy, hard to cut. We called and left a message for the owner and have not gotten call back. Poor quality of beef. I had the 14oz ribeye and needed a hacksaw to cut it. This is not the same beef served I've had in the past. They are cutting corners, and it shows. Drove an hour to try Five D. When we were handed menus, they were sheets of copy paper. A full 1/3 to 1/2 of all of the menu items weren't available, this was at 5:30 on a Saturday. One of our orders did not come out, waiter said it didn't get transmitted to the kitchen. Waiter stated he would "comp" that meal. When I received the bill, $5 was taken off. OK, we live in a small community in East Texas. Most of the towns run about 4000 people. So finding good places to eat in our remote areas is hard. Most cases you have to drive at least an hour away to find a great restaurant. Which is the case with 5D. It's located about an hour and 10 minutes from my location and to me is one of the best steak houses around. I would say it may be as good or slightly better than a Texas roadhouse. Certainly they're fresh baked rolls keeps me coming back every time. Their house salads are always fresh. Plenty of options on the menu from barbecue, to fish, to a large selection of steaks. The town here is extremely small and this place is been here for many years. read more

This is a very good Steak. We each ate here separately but recently; we each had ribeyes, and we each thought they were very good. I was even visiting with a friend of mine who caters and cooks steaks for that and said 5 D is one of the few local places he will go and order a steak. Extremely disappointing. After waiting to be seated, we were given a list of food not available. We were told that there was no steak(for a steakhouse). We understand things happen, and you can run out of food but tell people before seating and ordering drinks. Especially when getting there 1/2 hour after opening. Also, after we started eating, another table was told there were a couple of cuts of steak they could order. My wife got a country fried steak, which was so salty that she couldn't eat it. Small Town of Avinger with a great Steakhouse!!! The food was really great! The Jalapeno Bottle Caps for our appetizer were probably the best we've ever had anywhere! The Ribeyes were amazing and cooked to perfection! Our son's kids meal of chicken fried Steak Fingers were very good as he really loved them! I tried one of his Chicken fried steak fingers and it was really good!!! I almost wanted to order a chicken Fried Steak to go! We had tea with our dinners and our young had a coke with his. They also have a good selection of beer and a full bar if you would like a drink with your meal. Highly recommended if you're ever in the area, you won't go wrong!! Great service, friendly wait staff, and great atmosphere! You would never think a town this small would have a big city steak house right in the middle of it's downtown area!!! They also have an open patio with heaters if you would like to be out in the open. The whole place just had a really nice ambience to it. I saved for 6 months to take my family to 5D. Our reservation was for Dec 18 at 4:30. My son was visiting from FL with his family and I wanted to treat them to a fine meal. I was so disappointed. (1) the price for my rib eye was almost $10 more than what was posted on the website (Please update your online menu), (2) it was one of the worst rib eye steaks I'd ever had (tough and gristly), (3) the bread was already on the table when we sat down and being near the door, it was barely warm and (4) the blackberry cobber was a huge disappointment, hardly any blackberries and the crispy crust I remember from our first visit, wasn't there. The majority of the cobbler was left untouched. The one positive was that the majority of our 9 member party ordered the flat steak and said it was really good. Still, not worth my $350 bill. Outstanding dinner at the 5D Cattle Co Restaurant. We arrived early to beat the crowd and were seated immediately. Everything from the salad to the ribeye steak to the baked potato was excellent. The service was perfect too. Being a blackberry cobbler fan, I saved room for homemade cobbler. All I can say is Wow. Each of us ordered a cobbler. They were huge! It was like a small trough of cobbler. Needless to say, we'll be back. One note, they do take reservations so if you're coming on Friday or Saturday night, call ahead or come early. read more

Our family of three were enjoying a quiet 2 day vacation in a nearby vacation rental and the owner highly recommended this place and we were thrilled with our overall experience. We sat at the huge outdoor partially covered seating area and were promptly greeted by their courteous staff and seated. The ordering was a breeze with each member of the staff went out of the way to ensure we were taken care of, be it explaining the menu items or making suggestions or to fix the table which moving slightly. The order was placed and before we knew it the appetizers were served and within a very reasonable time the main course too. We were all thrilled with our selections. The portion sizes were big and the steak was really tasty. I will recommend their Ribeye anyway!
