Exchange between social media and myself
    Joshua W.

Been a customer there for eight years came in today because of a posted Facebook special and was told that they would not recognize the special even though I showed them that it was still on their facebook page. The interaction between their social media and myself was everything but professional. I will post pictures and let you decide for yourself if they are worth the business.

Solid brewery with tasty food. I was visiting for work and swung by. Decent crowd for a Tuesday evening.

For starters, it's a pretty fun place to hang out: Lots of different seating arrangements; there's darts, foosball, and shuffleboard; and an abundance (an overdose, really) of TVs. The beer, however, is mediocre, and it's in a non-walkable part of town. As the fifth brewery in a 400k metro area, you need to step up your beer game if you want to stand out, or, at the minimum, be recognized. The beers on my flight - porter (nitro and regular), Hefeweizen, wheat, and pale ale - weren't anything special. I expected more depth from the porter and more zing from the Hefeweizen. They probably need a few more months to get the kinks worked out, so I may come back in a year or so to see how things are going. In the meantime, I'll consider ourselves fortunate to live in such a creative, micro-brew-loving part of Iowa.

We're out-of-towners and we have been to Five Cities a couple of times. If you're looking for food that do not have any. Nearby places deliver here. Five Cities has a nice vibe to it. It's classy and casual. During the Covid pandemic there was no table service. The beers that I have had here are all at least decent. I like the red ale, "Crushin' On Amber" and the blonde, "Calmer N' You Are". Definitely stop-worthy, four stars.

We were seated quickly and the service was good. I ordered the salad the grilled chicken breast on top. Salad greens were room temperature and beginning to wilt. The chicken I could tell had been grilled but otherwise had no seasoning and was a bit chewy. I was disappointed in the experience.

Good beer, fun atmosphere, great happy hour! Nice spot to visit while we were on vacation.

Love this brewery!!! It's got some great outdoor seating with fire places, and lots of indoor seating with foosball and shuffleboard too. It's got a classy but casual vibe. Plus free popcorn! Last night I tried the Bikini Bottom Pineapple Wheat and it was the best beer I've ever had! We'll be back for more for sure. While Five Cities doesn't technically serve food, they have menus from two nearby restaurants. You order with your waitress, she handles calling in your food, it's delivered to your table, and it's all put on the same tab as your drinks! So easy. We had the calzone from Crust and it was delicious!

Five Cities is an awesome addition to the Quad City brewery scene! It is a large venue with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff and bar staff are always super friendly and very helpful on giving opinions on beer! You can order food from Crust or Central Standard (they are all 3 owned by the same company) and have the food delivered for FREE. And there is FREE popcorn with yummy powder flavors. We came on a Tuesday night and there were two amazing deals. 10% off of Crust pizzas and mugs for the price of pints!! The beers are always rotating and are seriously good. I'm a beer snob and I've never had a beer here that I don't like. Their IPAs and NEIPAs (north eastern IPA) are always stunning, and I'm a sucker for a good fruit beer!

Lots of options, good service. But this place was dead on a Sunday. No food options. Great bartenders that knew their stuff. Great set up for social distancing, employees wore masks and tables were out of order if too close together. No masks required

A bit of a chain feel to it, but good spot to hang out with games and activities. Solid beers. Service was a tad slow and impersonal.

Heavy metal vibes and ice cold beers…read more Needing a break from the afternoon shenanigans, we walked over to Stompbox Brewing after checking out the Skybridge for a quick drink. We didn't exactly plan to visit it this early into the day but since it was right there, we figured it was the perfect time to check it out so we didn't have to backtrack. Upon walking in, I knew I was in my place. I am a big fan of hard rock and heavy metal and this place oozed with tributes and references to many metal bands and songs. But, it doesn't beat you over the head with it too much and has a restaurant/bar vibe going as well. Emily and I took a table and ordered some drinks while we took this place in. We didn't have late lunch plans but knew we wanted to keep exploring before eating and settling in for the day, so we stuck with just beer here. The food menu did look pretty good and the hot pretzel bites did sound like the perfect accompaniment to our beer but maybe next time. I grabbed the Hefe Metal and Emily got a flight of beers. Her choices were: Devils Made Me Brew It, Flood Insurance, When the Levee Breaks, and Peach Fuzz. I really enjoyed my Hefe Metal and grabbed a can of it to go. Emily really liked the When the Levee Breaks but, in general, liked all her beers but the Devils. When we first took a sip, it was really good but at the halfway point, the beer started to smell and taste like a dirty gym locker room. She let me have the honors of putting the rest of it down. While we were relaxing and having our beers, we saw they had stickers and some sweet shirt designs. The stickers were only $1, so we grabbed two of each. There was a shirt design we both really liked but only mine was in stock. Emily was okay with that since one of the stickers had the design on it, too. Shirts were $25 a piece. Since we were only here for a quick stop, I'll keep this short. The beer for the most part was delicious. The people working were super friendly and the vibe of the place was killer. Between here, Wake Brewing, and Raccoon Motel, I'm starting to think the Quad Cities has a pretty solid heave metal scene... which is pretty frickin' a in my book. I'd highly suggest Stompbox Brewing if you need a place to grab a beer and do some light headbanging.

If service is a bit slow, give them a break, place is often crowded with tables constantly turning, but they never rush you. When weather permits, there's a nice patio. I keep reading "friendly service". I'd say actually it's a bit brusque. It's midwestern friendly, the blank face kind that's waiting to make sure you're not a jerk, or let you know they don't put up with them. But the service is excellent They should give up the counter seating for customers and call it "kitchen view" imho ha I don't want to say this for fear they raise prices, but very affordable. Tip them well. I've gone all around the menu and the only items I personally don't return to are the flatbreads, just not my thing. I opt instead for their sandwiches, salmon tacos, breakfast items, soups. It's all very good. Thanks, Brew!

In particular, the balsamic was delicious! I also had two sour beers (cans) and they were local and great. We had the pleasure of sitting outside in the nice weather and the patio was lively! This place seems to get a lot of attention and rightfully so. On top of it, the staff was attentive the entire time. Out the door we didn't break the bank and left content. I didn't look into the place before we stopped here so I assumed it was either surfer-themed or was attached to a coffeehouse. Little did we know it was a heavy metal/groove metal nanobrewery. I thrive on heavy metal so perfect for me, not so much for Emily. There were about 10 beers on tap to pick from so I got the Midlife Crisis (fitting as I near 40) and Emily got the Green Mind. The place was filled with what felt like the regulars so we took a spot over in a corner to drink one last beer before the road and play some card games in my 'pub kit' as seen in the cover photo above. My pub kit is a simple plastic container I got from Walmart that is full of quick and easy games to play at breweries, coffeehouses, or wherever you are. It just happens to be plastered in stickers from my travels. Anywho, back to the topic at hand. I really liked Wake Brewing. I have been into IPAs lately and tried a West Coast one for the first time. It was tasty but since I've been drinking hazy or tropical ones, it didn't quite hit like I am used to but that's on me and not the beer itself. Emily really liked her gose beer. I was eyeing the other IPAs on the menu but with a 2 hour drive back, I didn't want to delay us getting home before too late. While we sat there, some really nice groove metal was playing. It reminded me of Tool but less technical and more foot tapping. Shazam said it was King Buffalo and I'll have to check them out once life settles down a bit. If the heavy metal scene scares you, don't be intimidated. Most metal heads are big nerds and are some of the chillest people around. We didn't stick around too long but I wish we had. I loved the entire vibe of this place and would've liked to try some of their other beers. They do have some merch for sell, so you know Emily and I got all their stickers for this trip. If luck finds us back here again, I will def get a shirt. Anything to support heavy metal (and beer). As a side note, do know that trying to park here had me miss the parking lot's few entrances quite a few times. So, if it's your first time, be vigilant of the weird layout and multiple entrances. Rock on!

The smashburger food truck screwed up my order so was only able to eat half the food I ordered, but not really Wake's fault. The vide was nice, I loved the industrial patio. If I were in town longer, I would have made another visit. Worth stopping by if you are a brewery person!
