They have a good assortment of Lego mini figures, funky duct tapes, Iphone accessories, cards, and a lot of candy, but that is about all that I'm interested in.
The lines are strangely slow and people have a tendency to skip protocol and jump into line starting from the opposite direction, and never do store employees do anything about it. One of these days, maybe during the holidays, a fight is going to erupt because of it. Just saying. It's not hard to figure out the correct way to enter a line for the check-out. I wish someone would tell these nimrods how to do it.
One thing I've noticed- even if there is only one person waiting in line, that lone person is going to wait- and wait and wait. I have no clue why, but that is how it goes every time. Unless I REALLY want what I have in my basket that bad, I just throw it down and leave. It's just not worth the trouble.
Prices on items are often marked differently than they are at the checkout. I hate that. I have a bone to pick with them about that. It has happened a lot, not once or twice. Just price items correctly or be forced to lower it to the advertised price at the register. I will fight for what is fair. I think it's some kind of pricing scam. Very annoying.
I can see why teen girls might like this store a lot. It has a lot of cheap makeup and nail polish for chump change. That's not anything I'm interested in, so it doesn't matter to me, but I can see the allure for the average 14 year old girl.
Five Below has a lot of candy- all the best kinds at low prices. You name it, Nerds, Goobers, Dumb Dumbs, Air Heads, all of the Reese's and Hershey lines, plus every kind of gum available. You name it, they have it. Standing in those long lines, I have often started referring to the other people in line, the ones that don't know how to navigate the front end of the checkout line from the beginning, as nerds, goobers, air heads, and dumb dumbs as a joke and way to pass time. I muse about it aloud and wonder if they can hear me or get the allusion. Probably not.
To me, Five Below is all about the Lego mini figures. They have a nice assortment priced to sell and I collect them. They sell out fast around Christmas. The best time to buy them here is a few months after the holidays up to a few months before the next Christmas.
It also looks like a good place to decorate a dorm room for cheap. If I was an 18 year old heading off to my very first dorm room at college again, this is where might go to deck the walls for not much money. It's a teen friendly store.
Everything in the store is marked $5 for less, hence the name Five Below, but nearly everything is $5 or very close to that figure, minus the candy and a few other things. Calendars, cosmetics, throw blankets, books, movies, toys, phone accessories, games, household items, are all in the $5 area.
The store smells strongly of plastic. Everything in there is made of plastic. Get a whiff of it, stay too long and leave with a headache from the fumes. It's that strong. read more
