I used Fitzgerald's Florist for my son's funeral back in December. They were closed when I arrived, but there was someone inside so they let us in. I went in with no clue what to choose for such an awful event, and the woman who helped me was terrific. She guided me through it and I ended up choosing an urn wreath. I just knew that I wanted some orange flowers in it since that was his favorite color. When I arrived at the funeral home on the day of his wake, I was absolutely blown away by the spectacular arrangement that was there. Long Distance Flowers No Problem. Read the two reviews and decided to go with Fitzgerald's Florist for my Valentine's Flower order to my girlfriend in CT. Okay/ so yes a bit hesitant due to a one star review, but I found the person who took my order over the phone to be pleasant and helpful. It is obvious that these people know flowers and their business. :) Ordered a Small Spathiphyllum... WHAT A VALUE... Looked great, was delivered on Valentine's Day to my girlfriend's work with no problems what-so-ever :) Oh forgot to mention that there was a snow storm on the day of delivery and that did not affect the delivery at all. Plus the plant was more like a Medium or Large from the pictures I saw and well protected from the elements. Oh since I like to get both sides of the story I did mention the one star review, the story is worth hearing. :) Summary: Buy with confidence. I did from 3,000 miles away in San Diego. I got married last weekend and when I saw my flowers I was blowed away. We all can't stop taking about how gorgeous the flowers were. They were hands down the most beautiful flowers and they came out better than I could have hoped for. Maggie from start to finish was easy to work with. The first visit we were able to put together a sample bouquet with some of the flowers we were going to use. A month before the wedding the seasonal fall flowers came in so I could really see what they were going to look like. This really impressed me as some other florist couldn't even give me an idea and had nothing for me to visually look at. I loved my flowers so much we are going to preserve them. I've lived in the New Haven area for over 60 years and have used flower shops that don't exist today. Fitzgerald's is as good as it gets, period. Still family run, with stand up responsible people that walk the walk behind their product and service. I happened to be driving by and decided to walk in and purchase flowers. I told the owner I wanted to spend a certain amount of money and asked if she would pick out a bouquet. It was breathtaking, and when I brought it home to my wife she couldn't believe it. I don't believe in giving flowers on "Hallmark Holidays" and a few times a year I'll stop by or call in. Plus, if you change the water, there's no reason for the flowers to last at least two weeks or more! read more

I recently went to the Fitzgerald website and had a fruit basket sent to a close friend due to her mother's death. The 2 baskets I was looking at featured a pineapple prominently displayed in the center of the basket. When delivered there was no pineapple. I called the office to explain that after years of my family doing business with Fitzgerald's I was a bit disappointed. No pineapple and tons of bananas that go quickly. I was advised that they don't put pineapples in the basket unless you request it because they are hard to open. I suggested then that they might want to change the pictures because the pineapple is front and center which is why I ordered the basket and the pics are misleading. The woman I spoke to became rude, aggressive and it was hard to get a word in edgewise as she touted the virtues of how wonderful all their baskets are. Which of course was not my point. After I told her I couldn't believe we ended up arguing about a pineapple, and she wouldn't let me finish my thoughts, I said my goodbyes. I feel this woman was a very poor representative of this company that my family has done business with since they opened in the late 50's. Never once did she say: "How can we make this right?" So much for the customer. So much for my future business. And if you want a pineapple in your basket, you may want to go somewhere else. read more

I was highly impressed with this florist! The person who took my phone order (which was delivered to a funeral) was wonderful! While on the phone, her guidance, patience and kindness was greatly appreciated. She spoke back and forth with the designer, to make sure I would be pleased. Later that day I saw the flowers. It was everything I envisioned...they were exquisite! The designer listened to exactly what I wanted. I am often skeptical when ordering flowers by phone. They were the WORST..Went to them on a recommendation, biggest mistake of my life!! Sounded great over the phone and was anticipating something epic, but was completely let down!! Ordered flowers for my mothers 70th Birthday party, tables,bouquets and a arrangement for the head table. I gave specific instructions with the order including flowers,colors, arrangement and delivery instructions. Come the day of the event it semed like they didn't listen or take a note on what i said. The delivered the wrong colors,flowers and at the wrong time and then had the blatant disrespect to say it was my fault!!
