Cooper was awesome! Was very helpful and honestly the best experience I've ever had at a shoe store.

I asked if i could return this $28 hat if the sun wears out the color, to which they said No. Ok, well if this is the wrong size (my previous hat's tag was gone), may i return it? She asked if i was going to bend the brim, to which i said, of course, ill need to in order to have it fit. She then said No to that as well. Baffled, i said, then why do i need a receipt? She shrugs. 5 days later of limited usage, i had determined that it was the wrong fit. I called, got a different person, and asked for an exchange. She said as long as i have the receipt, sure. I take my way there and she changed her mind. Cant return it because it was worn and cant be resold. I said, of course i wore it, that is its function. THAT is what i bought it for and its clean, brim is not cracked, color is fresh, smells like a store, and this was 5 days ago! Do you not stand by your product? She repeats that she cant sell it. Knowing retail i inquired, Cant you damage it out and get credit from your vendor? Its unaltered and you alter hats here, perhaps you can take THIS one back because i had no customization done to it? She stands her ground. I stood there thinking, well it is a hat. It gets wear and tear almost immediately. But, a similar item to a hat is a shoe. Shoes, that meet the earth with every step, can typically be returned if theyre not badly worn. I compared shoes, hardly worn for 5 days, if they can be returned, and i know they can because chain stores want to keep customers satisfied. But..were talking a hat here...with a total of 10 min in 5 days of wear. I look at my receipt and see a lids.com. I kindly leave and get the customer service phone number from their site. LIDS.com did not question my return, did not deny my return, and apologized on this store's stingy policy. They sent me a fedex slip to send it back, free of charge, and gave me a refund. Mind you, i wanted an exchange. I wanted to give them my business, but because i had to go through this, to hell with that idea. If the cooperate number can issue a return, why cant the store? Pish posh. Im getting my money back and getting my sized hat on Amazon. Stay away from this store.

I ussually shop at other stores to get my outdoor wear but this place is unmatched. There is such a large variety for colors and lots of sizes available. I ended up getting hiking boots and base layers to keep me warm during my trip. This store is definitely on the pricier side but the quality of the items I bought are unmatched. The workers made sure I had everything I needed and were very responsive to me needing changing rooms or different sizes of boots.

I have visited twice so far while charging my Tesla after visiting Shands. I love how conveniently located it is, and I have been happy with my purchases. I respect and appreciate REI Gainesville's attention to safety including requiring people to wear face masks plus enforcing distancing and providing hand sanitizer. I think it's unfair that the negative reviews are people complaining about safety protocols. My experiences have been great. I was a little disappointed in the lack of selection in the cycling gear department, but overall there is excellent merchandise with very helpful sales associates. The quality of REI merchandise is high, and it is priced based on the quality. If you want cheap, I suggest going to a discount store where your gear will not last as long. My last visit I was especially impressed with the sales associate who checked me out. I don't shop much in person these days due to having leukemia, but the protocols were exceptional and I felt safe there. I will definitely return, and I highly recommend shopping at REI Gainesville!

Man says condescendingly- " if you have a blister it's because of your socks." He points to the small sock area on the wall I say- "by any chance do you have a cotton blend because these thin socks make my feet sweat" He says, "impossible those don't make your feet sweat" they do the opposite. me- "well then they make MY feet sweat because I feel like I'm sliding inside my shoes when I use those... maybe I sweat too much" Him- "the worst thing you can do is use cotton you should never use cotton when you work out" He continues to speak to me condescendingly so I said thanks and left. I actually wanted to buy a pair of shoes I saw on the small selection wall but decided to go elsewhere because it felt like I wasn't pro enough to shop there. He must not have wanted to sell anything today. I expect for the employees of a specialty store to know more about running/walking than I do, but not about what hurts Me or how cotton helps someone with apparent hyperhydrosis lol or at least to be empathetic. I'm not making this up this is what I'm feeling, even if you try to convince me I'm not. This might not be the place for you if you are a beginner to this specific sport/discipline. I'm also not an idiot as a former employee of an athletic footwear store and former D-1 athlete.

I walk like a duck a bit. Last year they fit me with New Balance 860v8s and it helped the pain and gave me some much needed stability. I wore these sneakers every day. For the first time in a very long time I was pain free. I started working out and eating healthier. But then a couple of months ago, about 10 months into owning the shoes I noticed I was starting to get some pain back. My beloved NB 860v8s were looking rode hard. The soles were almost smooth on the outside edges. It was time to get new shoes. I put it off a couple of months because sneakers are freaking expensive. But inhad to bite the bullet. Buying my NB Darth Vader's is an investment in my health. I do everything better when I'm not in pain. We went in and I got help from the tall white guy (TWG) whose name I didn't get. Shame on me. He is the same guy who helped me last year. TWG measured my feet and then started pulling boxes. I like how he fit one foot with one sneaker and the other with a different sneaker. We whittled down my choices to two New Balance sneakers. I mean, don't fix what's not broken, ammiright? I couldn't make up my mind but something wasn't just connecting. TWG asked me which pair do I NOT notice on my feet. That ended up being an easy decision. The NB 880s won. Sure these are some big shoes, but I have paddles for feet. I need a good solid shoe to keep me from falling over (yes, falling over is something that I do on the regular). I really appreciate the service that I got from TWG and saw from the other staff person. The store quickly filled up while we were there. They didn't pay me less attention because I'm not a runner (hi Dick's Sporting Goods, looking at you). This is important to me. Don't judge me. Also GNV Walking and Running is locally owned shop and I want support my neighborhood stores. This is very important to me. Gainesville has a ton of locally owned eateries bit we don't have many locally owned boutiques or clothing stores. So its special when I can support something besides food.
