I enjoyed my first visit to Shirt Shack this summer! I am not from the area, and was visiting for…read morethe week. I was told that this store is relatively new to the area by some locals. Everything appeared new and clean, both inside and out. It is located off of SR 45, and has a sizable, private parking lot that is easy to get in and out of. When we stopped, it was not too crowded but there were some others shopping around. It was a Thursday in July, around mid-morning. This store is huge! They have an incredible selection of boots and various western wear brands for men, women, and children. You could definitely spend an hour or two in here just looking around at all of the different shirts, jackets, pants, accessories, and shoes that are available. There were a lot of brands that are popular for sale - Columbia, Wrangler, Local Boy, Judy Blue, Stanley, and so many more. We ended up purchasing a few shirts, and I thought the prices were fair here. It seemed like they run various specials and sales, as well as having a healthy sale/clearance section. The staff were all friendly, and they had several people working and active on the floor. They were willing to help with anything and answer questions as asked. I would recommend giving this place a stop if you find yourself in the area. Selection is great, and they have some extended sizing on items as well. You really can shop for the entire family here. Will definitely be back on my next trip to the area!

As a woman who prefers unisex-style scrubs, there are not very many brands that can accommodate that, however they do carry Grey's Anatomy scrubs, Blue Label, Cherokee and WonderWink. Anything that they do not have in stock in the store, they will allow you to order (which means I was able to order several styles in petite length) and they also do embroidery. Embroidery takes 7-10 business days but pricing is reasonable. They also have work shoes available. A more accurate rating for the store would likely be a 3.5. I usually do most of my shopping for scrubs online, but it was nice to have the option to use a fitting room. Note that they are tucked away in the relatively abandoned center where Toys' R' Us used to be on the second floor. Also of note, they do NOT carry Blue Sky, Figs or Urbane scrubs.

Still though, they were my first experience with higher-end bikinis when I came to college, and when I was thin enough to wear those things I was too broke and when I was comfortable enough to afford them I was too fat. Isn't that usually the way? Since graduating UF, I rarely come down 13th Street, but today I figured I could re-visit. (Plus I had a 50% coupon from some nice peeps on Twitter--thanks!) The store is still laid back, surfboards akimbo, sunglasses flaring in their cases, shoes languidly hanging. There are no mannequins, and usually no more than two people at a time working behind the sales counter. The stuff is there, and the staff will only interact with you if you speak to them. They do not upsell, they do not follow you around. The merchandise is all there for you to browse at will. You either want it or you don't. The bikini situation was the same as always--the uglier they are, the more likely they are to fit. The cute, sassy ones? ... yeah, not quite made for someone of my proportions. Groan. Things haven't changed all that much, have they, Freeride? I guess I'll have to blow that coupon on a nice shirt or two ...

Arabesque is a dancewear store located in the back of the Thornebrook Village Shopping Center off…read moreof 43rd Street in northwest Gainesville. While most people who need to know about it probably already do, I am reviewing Arabesque here because it's a fine little store run by a very charming lady who obviously cares very much about dance in our town. Expectedly, most of the stock is dancewear and shoes geared towards girls and young women because that's the lion's share of who buys dancewear in Gainesville and who takes dance lessons. However, both UF and Santa Fe have good dance programs and there's a number of men and women therefore into dance--to say nothing of the professional dance and theatre activities going on in town. What really makes Arabesque is the owner: she's a sweet, charming, woman very interested in the business she runs. I went in looking for a rather specialized article of clothing that she didn't have (a mesh top) and she made every effort to try to track down something to suit my needs. I finally found just the thing by American Apparel, but her willingness to help and friendly approach will bring me back to her store should I ever have need to buy anything they might sell.

There was one person finishing up a transaction, and before it was even over, one of the two workers asked how he could help me. I also needed a water bottle cage with my valve caps. As I stepped to pay, he informed me that they were FREE!! I know it just a little piece of plastic, but it always feels good to get free stuff! I have always been treated well here, and I am glad it is right on the 6th St bike path, because it is on my way.

If they had asked, I would've told them I had a pump at home, and am perfectly capable of using it. Obviously it was a relatively minor infarction ($10-$15), but I'm a 21 yo woman, already fairly apprehensive of going to a repair shop on my own. I was let down. Not sure what bike repair etiquette is, but performing a service without asking the customer and then charging them for it seems pretty inappropriate to me, no matter the SOP. My bike is fixed though, so that's nice.
