I got a bike fit and bought a new bike through FitWerx and it was truly an impressive experience. Ian's depth of knowledge and attention to detail is astounding, and the staff is extremely responsive to email. Every other time I've bought a bike, the conversation has basically been "what kind of riding do you want to do? Okay, here's what we have that fits that kind of riding. This one's in your size." At FitWerx, the conversation started before I ever got there with a telephone consult, then a multi-hour one-on-one session complete with detailed body measurements and flexibility assessments, an interview about fitness history and athletic goals, testing out and dialing positions on a fully adjustable bike-fitting machine, and then discussing bikes that would be available for custom order directly from the manufacturer, what their specs are, what their short term availability would be, what sorts of modifications and part swaps would be advisable to make it fit ideally, etc. Then Fitwerx ordered me a bike and had the manufacturer agree to swap out certain default parts, and they specced it up to my exact fit. They also adjusted my current bike to make the riding position exactly right. It obviously took longer than just walking in to a store with a slate of inventory and then walking out with a bike, but if you want the custom treatment and *exactly* the right bike selected and tailored specifically to your body and your intended use, this is the place. Ian is in my opinion the best bike fitter in the nation, both for roadies and triathletes. I'm a retired triathlon and cycling coach, who always made certain my athletes had *perfectly* dialed in bike positions--otherwise overuse injuries are virtually certain to crop up. There are only 4 fitters in the country whom I insisted my athletes see: Andy Pruitt in Boulder, CO; Kevin Saunders in San Antonio, TX; John Cobb in Shreveport, LA; and Ian. If you are within 5 hours drive of beautiful downtown Waitsfield, it's worth your while to make an appointment at Fit Werx. Amazing experience from start to finish. I drove up from NYC just to work with Fit Werx VT based solely on other user reviews--and Fit Werx truly delivered on every level. Custom insoles for my new shoes, an amazing bike fit, an amazing new bike, and I learned something every step of the way. Fit Werx never tried to up-sell me on things I don't need--it truly was a rider-first experience. In fact, my new bike fit went so well that I brought my old bikes to them for fit adjustments and servicing. Fit Werx just unlocked new potential in my riding. Don't believe there is a better bike shop in America. I've lived in LA, NYC, Austin, Boston, a lot of great shops around but none with the combination of fit expertise and customer care as Fit Werx. Ian's fit got me across the country on a PACTOUR. Just rebuild an ancient Calfee Tetra Pro with more gravel friendly gears and Bruce handled it perfectly. I'm 68 and have accumulated a number of posture issues due to surgeries, broken bones, DIY bike fits using "good books", and aging. I wanted a bike fit that will allow me to ride as many more years as possible. I can tell you that Ian very patiently sorted them out and made changes that I simply would not have known to make, that put me in a remarkably better position on my existing bike, which I love. read more

I recently traveled to the Mad River Valley in Vermont for a vacation with my girlfriend. She brought her gravel bike, and I was looking for one to buy having focused on road cycling to this point. I ended up finding a bike that I rode as a demo for several days from Fit Werx. The bike was great, but it was the quality of service from the bike shop and the people working there that were truly awesome. Fit Werx did an excellent job fitting me and supporting some adjustments on the bike that came up over the week-long stay I was in the area. Service and contact is by appointment only, but the shop always provided prompt and timely responses. Subsequently I also had a full fitting done with Ian Buchanan (owner of Fit Werx) that is one of the most thorough and informative experiences I have had to this point as a cyclist, and I have been riding 35 years. In summary, Fit Werx is a quality bike store with excellent mechanics on staff along with a very knowledgeable owner. Highly recommended. read more

After 10 weeks between expert fitting to delivery of my new Moots Vamoots RSL custom bike from Fit Werx in Waitsfield VT, I can't imagine being any happier with the final results. In a word..."Wow"!!!. Not quite a month later and 600 miles on my new Moots, I'm still smiling at the end of each ride and can't wait for next opportunity to get out on the bike! The combination of arguably the best Ti bike money can buy coupled with an expert and custom fit tailored to my body's many imperfections, I'm now riding longer, faster and most importantly, in greater comfort. While it's difficult to tell which aspect is providing me the greater benefit....the new fit or the quality of the bike itself...here's a few of my early observations: Compared to my old Serotta Legend Ti, the new Moots Vamoots RSL is shorter in the cockpit (seat to handlebars by 3cm. These changes were the result of an extensive 4-hour fitting with Ian Buchanan, the owner of the Fit Werx bike shop in Waitsfield, VT. Using an array of equipment and flexibility assessment techniques....Ian videoed my riding position on a computerized fit bike and adjusted the dimensions of the cockpit, seat and handlebar height and cleat positions to establish the sweet spots for all body contact points. Despite my own best attempts to adjust what I thought "felt right" over a lifetime of cycling, I wasn't even close. * Body Position: Upon sitting on the bike for the first time, I was amazed how my hands fell perfectly in place on the brake hoods with an appropriate bend in the elbows. After a few minutes on the road, my arms, shoulders and back felt incredibly comfortable. I've been cycling (mostly road and gravel bikes) fairly competitively for 40+ years and for the first time wondered, should I be feeling this comfortable on a bike? Now after 600 miles in the first month on the new Moots, I have experienced absolutely no shoulder pain...nada...and no middle back pain either! I can't remember when in the past 10+ years when I wasn't suffering from almost an unbearable level of pain in my left shoulder after an hour on the bike. While at first I did have some concern that the shorter reach and greater upright position would be sacrificing to a more aerodynamic position, my overall level of comfort has vastly improved which leaves me feeling less fatigued with more energy and looking forward to my next ride! My power numbers have also improved...relatively higher average and normalized power and FTP for this time of year as well as many new PR's on Strava segments. Most noticeably though....I can't get over the immediate reduction in discomfort and overall fatigue especially on longer rides! * Custom Footbeds: The new footbeds have made a huge improvement to my overall comfort as well as power output on the bike since I started using them a few months ago. With my feet square and supported in the right places, I've had no pain on the outsides of my feet during and after my rides. * And what about the bike?: The combination of the ti frame and carbon stem and seat post seems to be a winner. While the Moots felt very stiff and responsive, I barely felt the bumps in road nor the harshness of the zipp 202's that I experienced on the Serotta. While still technically recovering from meniscus surgery that I had in February, I was surprised to see that my power numbers were as high as they have been so early in the recovery. Again, higher FTP with and overall power output with lower perceived effort. While I was struggling to get outside during an extended winter and knee surgery, I'm confident that my new Moots and perfect fit will provide what I need to get back into my routine. I can't thank the Fit Werx team enough, Ian, Bruce and Jim, for their guidance and expertise in putting me into the right position and the perfect bike. Without a doubt...my most valuable and enjoyable investment. I'll definitely be back often and will be sure to share my positive experience with anyone who will listen.
