Amazing shop with friendly helpful staff. I go to Rochester (from Boston) a few times a year and always bring my bikes with me. I can always count on Doon and his crew to get the bikes tuned up and running perfectly. They are honest, professional, and hands down the best in the business. I'm surrounded by bike shops in Boston, but will only go to Green Mountain. The prices are really reasonable and will work with you to match your budget. Hands-down, my favorite bike shop of all time. Doon and his crew carry an extensive selection of mountain, road, and hybrid bikes. They ride what they sell, they sell what they ride. They've got something for everyone. If I sound like a fan, it's because I am, as I've bought every bike I've owned since 2001 here (two road, three mountain). In addition to great personalities, friendly cats, occasionally some chickens, a brick oven (complete with pizza on occasion), and a drawbridge. (Yes, a drawbridge.) Addendum: there's nothing quite like seeing a kid being coached by one of the staff, as he keeps a hand on the bike to make sure he doesn't crash on his first ride, as they slowly go out of site around a corner, only to see the kid riding back I to view on his own a few moments later. Truly, there is wizardry at play here. read more

First off, if you're a bagger, you have to stop at this shop just for how cool it is and all the love they'll throw your way. Ask, and you'll get a quick tour! We stopped by on our way through town and were given a quick show of the place. They have a man-powered drawbridge, lots of classic bikes, a great selection of new bikes, a walk-through shop, a water fountain on the side and a garden out back! We filled up on water, chatted a bit, then rolled on. After a leisurely lunch in town, we rode on. About four miles from town, my rear shifter cable snapped. I thought I could ride on since it was mostly downhill but realized that there was no bike shop before our next pass! Somehow I was able to ride back uphill unloaded to Rochester, and I was stoked to find out the shop was open until six on Sundays! Kinley was my mechanic. He saw how sweaty I was and heard the desperation in my voice, so he finished what he was working on then got to work on my bike. Not only did he replace my cable, but he suggested changing my housing. I didn't have time as we had to roll on, but he lubed the housing of my rear cable, and man, did it help. He also flossed out my cassette and left a floor full of gunk behind. As he did all this, he gave me some great maintenance tips and suggested replacing the housing at the end of the trip, along with the front cable. The price was more than reasonable, and Kinley did the most amazing thing yet by giving me a ride the six miles back to my buddies! This guy is a class act! Kudos to these guys for running a stand-up operation! I'm already planning a return trip to Vermont! Thanks again! read more

Green Mountain Bikes is a great local bike shop. I can't recommend these guys enough. I purchased my first bike in many years recently from Green Mountain Bikes and had a great experience with all their employees helping me with the process. Doon(shop owner) was very knowledgeable and provided great insight during the process and helped me select what I felt was the right bike for myself at a great price. I also spoke with Dillon and Kinley during the process who were also very helpful. The shop also has a group ride Thursday after closing at 6pm and one on Sunday morning at 8AM. GMB will be celebrating their 30th anniversary in Rochester so they must be doing something right. read more

Gosh, I REALLY wanted to like this place, but they ended up doing a literal hatchet job on my bike. Covid hit, my wife and I found ourselves out of The City and we brought our bikes up with us so we could get some exercise during the pandemic. I took my road bike in because I was having some trouble with the front derailleur. Since the bike was already going to the shop, I figured I'd have the team do some minor work on it so the bike would match the diagram of a pro fit I'd had a year back at another shop. I'd need to replace the fork as well as the cables/housings. The bars needed new wrapping and a new riser stem with spacers would need to be applied to match the fit specs. Seems easy enough, right? except for the stem, I provided all the parts needed for the job to be complete (bar tape, spacers, cables/housings, new fork). Since I live in an urban environment and have had bikes/bike parts stolen in the past, I've got some funky hex bolts on contact points that require a special key to tighten/loosen. I also provided the team with all of the necessary tools to deal with the nuances of protection that I'd implemented on the bike. Two weeks later I reached out to see if the bike had been finished and Doon told me that it was on the stand and would be finished later that afternoon. I made my way on over there, jumped on the bike to give a short test ride and sure enough, the front derailleur wasn't traveling from the small chainring to the large one. When I brought the bike in and Doon was filling out the work ticket, I saw him write "FD" at the top of the list. I handed the bike back to the tech and also asked him to shorten the length of the bolt on the seat post as well as the bolts on the front/rear skewers. Since this is a city bike and I'm crazy about keeping things secure, this is a job I've had done multiple times. It is simple and, with the correct tool like a dremmel, it takes seconds to complete. My heart sank when I heard the hacksaw in the workroom. Half an hour later the bike is out of the shop, the bolts are shortened and I'm still with a non-traveling "FD" Doon takes the bike in the shop and five minutes later it is out, I'm on it and the FD is working properly. When I bring the bike back to pay for the gig, I ask "Hey, what'd you end up doing to the front derailleur to get it to work properly?" to which I was told, "Oh, I just took a pair of pliers to it and bent it back." Wow. What care and attention. OK, time to pay. Apparently it took 2 technicians 5 hours each to do the job. 10 total hours?!? That's crazy. A job like this should take 5 hours MAX for ONE person to accomplish. Even then, I think it is fair to ask that the one person fix everything on the ticket with a bit of respect to the bike. The only part I didn't provide was the stem so I figured, sure probably another $40 max to the labor. A grand total of $326.50 later I'd paid up and sulked away. Insult to injury, when the "technicians" were literally hacksawing the bolts they cut into one of the cable housings on the top tube so my left thigh rubs against it and they scratched the titanium seat post clamp. What a total mess. Never again. I'm giving them 1 star because they're open 7 days a week and they were communicative throughout the process. Otherwise, I wouldn't trust Doon and his team with so much as a kiddie tricycle. read more

My husband and I live in the area and we are finally trying to get outside as much as possible. My husband called Doon and told him our budget and he was able to provide us with excellent condition bikes. Albeit used, they were fixed up and they ride great! He even threw in some helmets for us. We recently rented a tandem for a fall bike trip in VT. Since we were traveling from the other coast, all arrangements had to be made by phone and email. Doon was super responsive to our specific needs/requests and went to a lot of extra effort to provide us with a very well sized and prepared bike. It included some special features that he had to custom fit to make our trip more comfortable.
