There was a time when it was closed due to some roof repairs, so I went to the West Chester Y (also great and 10 lap lanes!!) But at the Lionville Y the staff is very friendly, It is 2 miles from me and now I also play Mahjongg with a very nice group of women. There is a very busy pickleball court and I may try that at some point. The weight room is huge, with lots of machines and helpful trainers. There are art classes and a knitting group. Day care and lots of youth activities. It's free for some seniors, (including me) depending on your insurance. I can't imagine why anyone would pay big bucks to go to another gym.

I had done pretty thorough research online, and even called ahead that evening to make sure it would be OK if I came to the class--my scheduling made me unable to come before, but my evening cleared up and it was something I'd wanted to do for a while. The person I spoke with on the phone seemed excited to have a new student, and encouraged me to come. Online, it says $15 per class, and as someone pursuing a career in musical theater, I follow a tight budget, and that fit in with what I typically spend for dance classes elsewhere. When I got there, I filled out new student forms, and she tells me there's a $25 "tuition fee"...I tell her that this is news to me and it doesn't quite make sense in my case since this is the only class I can attend in the semester, and I had misunderstood and thought it was ok to "drop in", like at most adult dance classes. She insisted that it's a tuition based program, so I considered leaving, without doing the class. At that point, she said to do the class and we can figure it out after. Turns out her idea of "figuring it out" after was to just make me pay it. I left in tears (I know, it's a bit of an overreaction, but I just felt very blindsided and taken advantage of, especially considering I had checked online AND called ahead to avoid surprises like this)... overall, great class but a pretty terrible taste was left in my mouth by the administration.

I have contacted both owners of this establishment, yet no meaningful action has followed. Audrey continues to enter the facility despite prior incidents that should have prevented her return. The general manager--not the owners--appears to exercise full control over operations, making decisions as though no oversight exists. Consider this question: What becomes of policy when an owner orders former employees removed, yet management quietly places them back on the payroll? Such actions make plain who truly governs this place. There is also a matter that warrants public awareness. The former assistant general manager--who was asked to resign or be terminated--continues to frequent the facility. During his tenure, concerns were raised regarding inappropriate conduct involving minors, including reports of accessing the membership information of sixteen-year-old members and contacting them through social media. Regardless of how such concerns were handled at the time, they should give any parent pause. Prudence and vigilance are advised when young girls are present in an environment where such matters remain unresolved. And finally: Where do employees go when they are needed most? They have a great variety of classes: Zumba, Bombay Jam, Beat HIIT, PiYo, Yoga, Barre classic, Barre Pump, and 305. Some of these classes are hard to find anywhere else or aren't offered in gyms nearby. I've taken all of these except Yoga and I really enjoy them all. It's a great variety of cardio and strength training. The instructors are fantastic. Each one is friendly and welcoming. They make a point of asking if anyone is new and they show modifications. What I also appreciate is that there are all body types and fitness levels, so it's not intimidating.
