You get a different HIIT type workout per class you choose. A few of the classes are stretch classes but even those will feel like an intense workout for me. You may get to use plates, a battle rope, the usual weights, jump rope, a mini "track" where you bend down and get back up running back and forth, and semi-gym bike you must balance yourself on. Visiting many fitness centers including this one has helped me appreciate what is here more. My body acted weird with the 12 workouts I had here as I surprisingly never lost weight except for one time when I had 2 workouts on a Thursday and a Saturday, I temporarily suddenly lost 9 lbs. I couldn't do workouts harder than I did as I would get dizzy and I have been checked for these physical reactions already and I am thankfully fine. My stamina rebuilding has been real slow. I do wish there was some short breaks planned because I get worn out and start to hate exercise with the constant pressure to move. Every gym and almost every trainer I have been with has been like this though. You have to try to pace yourself completely :( This is a good place for getting a quality workout for your money's worth.

Sometimes it's hard to step around it! That says just as much about some of the clientele as it does about the staff. Maybe the YMCA can't afford cleaners? It can be a really filthy place, as other reviewers have mentioned. Even the tennis courts usually have lots of fuzz and debris on them. On the positive side, the coaches/trainers are super nice, and the staff at the desk are polite, even if they are not too proactive or interactive.

The hot tub exterior walls were removed so it's all open to the pool area now (for safety). Inner walls were constructed so the hot tub isn't part of the locker room/ shower area anymore. Bathing suit is required for the hot tubs. No more towels, you have to bring your own. The gym is more stripped down and basic feeling since the Y took over. No more broken water fountains, clogged sinks, gross showers. A lot less tvs on the cardio floor. The best thing about this Y is the open space. It never feels crowded anymore. I recently went to Paoli and their cardio floor is so packed and tight. Indoor track is still amazing as the 90s. 5 laps is a mile, it's the biggest indoor track I've ever seen. No one looks where they are going. That is my biggest annoyance. Teens walking with their faces buried in their phones.

You can even get a 1 day pass online and not have to make actual contact nor is it expected probably. For the monthly pass, with no enrollment fees, mind you, you would need to make an appointment the first time around. If you can make it at least 5 times to the gym within the month, then it is worth getting the 24-7 access by the month. Most gyms wanted to charge me an enrollment fee for a partial one month period, and it was just not worth it to do that for me. Most gyms don't have 24-7 access and those that do will tack on this enrollment fee. I was planning to work out manually but then I had thought of this gym and tried asking and glad I did! There are showering facilities which I wouldn't have expected, but it's super nice to know that I don't have to leave sweaty and head straight back home if I don't want to. Definitely a potential incentive to keep working out and makes it feel less like a stressful event. One of the showers doesn't even work currently, but there are two others that do. The toilet paper rolls look worn out and it feels like if they were fixed, some musclehead might accidentally break it again by pulling too hard on it. Another one, during one time I was there, the water was accidentally left on and I turned it off, I could see how one might be in a hurry and not have closed the faucet all the way. You just try to do the right thing with minor things like that. Most clients probably would prefer to drive home and use their own comfortable shower rather than the one provided here. There are also a few bottles of wipes provided, but I was probably the only one who would use them or maybe they would only be used by others if sweat got on the equipment. There's a whole array of apparel from online that can be shipped directly to you and pictures of history and pride of the gym and the owner's past interests and successes. I can't fully appreciate the equipment that is here nor understand how to use much of it. I tried to look what equipment was what and how to use it when I could and sometimes I just did things by looking and feeling them out enough but making sure I could handle the weights and such if things didn't quite go as I expected. The only thing I wish this gym and most gyms could have is an optional local community event to get together and just chit chat once in awhile, maybe like every month or 2 or 3 months. I have run into a few that do this or did this once in a rare occasion to try it out, but it is a way to try to build community so that I'm not just showing up and leaving. Gyms that have classes, as I can't make those regularly, I'm not able to socialize that way. So, the classes have become not a big deal to me. The personal trainers I've tried at other gyms is hit or miss, more miss The trainers I tend to like to work with the least are the ones that have been hired through a mainstream gym because many of these people only want to work with certain clientele and they may do things like not show up to their appointment or put someone else in place when that is not the standard practice at most gyms (and this probably should be the standard practice at most mainstream gyms.) They are trying to go for the "relational" connection building, but most gyms are way too transient for this on both the client and staff sides to be effective. A few reviews have said that one can just ask others for help. While I probably could've, I did feel like as a non-jock, I would be intruding on someone else's workout and if I asked them something, what could I offer them back that they would want? Sometimes, a "thank you" might be enough, but I guess living in this world and how it's changed and socially, not for the better, I feel uncomfortable without more context. Even something as simple as I recognize that brand name on your shirt or something "generic" but thoughtful like that could be enough. I think there are people who are probably really nice, but some that would be super annoyed. You don't always know 100% but you just get that vibe. Even things more in my space and YelpE, and even in things where I definitely level off enough with others, I have not built the tight friendships one might expect. A few people did say "hi" when I was least expecting it, and one person ended up going into the gym even thanking me for "letting him in", but I wasn't actually letting him in and I didn't want to create an unnecessary conflict. I also just wanted to leave the gym at that time too. It was safe to assume he had a valid pass and just wasn't finding his pass or working the system right. This slew of gym types is typically less advertised I believe as a Baltimore friend thought this type of gym didn't exist near him.

I am a single mom of two young boys and I was trying to adjust to my new life where I was gaining weight and smoking. I was so disgusted with myself because I lacked energy, confidence and strength mentally, physically and spiritually. I was 5'1 and weighing 150 lbs and moving into a size 10. I learned about John's Fitness Train through a friend. At first, I was nervous I wouldn't be able to afford it or keep up with my career and being a mom. John worked with my schedule and immediately I started to see results. I started to gain control of my life. John is an excellent motivator and role model. All the categories in my life where I felt weak and disgusted, he is the exact opposite. I swear my training sessions turned into therapy. In fact, I was seeing a therapist twice a week and I stopped those sessions because I was gaining more mental strength during my training sessions than I did in two years of therapy. Less than a year after my first session I went from a size 10 to a 0. Yes, ladies you may find that hard to believe after having two children and c-sections but when you put your mind to anything you will see results. Thank you, John for teaching me that secret to life. Currently, I am still a size 0, one solid year without a cancer stick, ran my first 5K, working on a 10 mile run and lifting weights three days a week. I realize this may sound scary and unbelievable but I promise you, I am real. Everyday I get stronger and when I start to slip, John reminds me why I am here. I am here because if I can accomplish this challenge then I can tackle any challenges. Now I am a positive role model for my two sons and students. John is more than a trainer. He is a counselor, motivator and friend!! By the way, I was that girl in the red shirt but now I am the woman in the grey tank top.
