Tony shook my hand at the front door & invited me in (the way a vampire would). It was the last time my presence would be acknowledged. He did not look at me from that point forward. He did not ask if I had anything to add. He did not ask if I had any questions. He did not acknowledge me for the entirety of the discussion. It wasn't just awkward, it was rude, disrespectful, & most importantly, unkind. He had several options if he thought my presence was unwarranted. 1.) He could've simply stated that. 2.) He could've set expectations. i.e. I'm happy to have you be apart of the Q & A, but need you to step out for the treatment. 3.) He could've taken a genuine interest in me & why my husband asked me to be present (perhaps even gaining me as a client). After 30 minutes of zero eye contact/acknowledgement, I finally spoke up for myself & raised the question, "what am I doing here!?" I explained people on the spectrum sometimes need help expressing themselves; I was asked to help w/ this & rearranged my schedule to do so. I didn't just insert myself, I asked if he wanted to hear from me (because I could be at home right now if not). He told me he has no waiting room & if I intend on leaving I need to go sit in the car, which I did in 29 degree weather for nearly an hour. I left that room exercising the greatest amount of self control & dignity I could muster. Here's what it taught me. There are hacks all around us. I view Tony as having the emotional intelligence of a flea. If he thinks he can mistreat a client's life partner of 23 years & ever see that client again, he's stupid. Too stupid to provide the help his services promise. It also helped me to see that while we all long for more fulfilling roles, EVERYONE is unhappy at work. All the crystals, meditation, yoga pants is a crock if something as simple as a "wife" showing up puts you in that posture. I wish I could tell you I did or said something to deserve this, but I never uttered a word. I wish I could say his behavior was appropriate, but I've attended countless therapy sessions, medical appts, & autism evals w/ my husband & never had a clinician act this way. NO ONE has provided more support/help to my husband than me. If Tony thinks his "service" is unmatched, he needs to get in line. My husband came to him asking for help w/ confidence & public speaking- his inability to speak up for me in the moment is a clear expression of this deficit. No man would've tolerated Tony's dismissive treatment of me. I left the room upset & I'm sure my husband had difficulty focusing after that. For these reasons I cannot recommend Tony Longobardi's services. It is my belief he first needs some people skills & communication training of his own.
