While away my emergency contact (EC) was contacted by the manager no less and considered a sales lead. The manager had taken her name off my profile and called her to come in under my recommendation for free trial work outs. My EC because my family is three hours north of Topeka happens to be my 68 yr old landlady who could contact my family if something happened. She's retired and one gin martini away from a nap about 8 hours of the day everyday. When I confronted the manager about the incident and told her how tacky it was I heard a thud as another employee got thrown under the bus, as she passed blame. Anyone play ball? (STRIKE ONE!! - lie) Needless to say I called my landlord who saves everything including the olive cocktail spears from those martini's and asked her to play the Genesis message to which I heard the managers voice. Then I called the manager who said oh I was just getting ready to call you back. (STEEEERIKE TWO!!-lie) I told her it was in fact her who called. She told me my EC must have gotten into her lead list by mistake. (STEEEERIKE THREE!! - lie and YOU'RE OUT!!) She did assure me though she would talk to the staff about this, so I was of course somewhat relieved. Because I wasn't a member that long, when I received a survey I felt it only fair to mark everything as neutral with the exception of the sales call to my EC so that was a four on staff. On the same call which was actually the purpose with the Genesis manager she tried to give me a guilt trip because I rated most of the survey questions as a 5 based on the 1-10 scale. I told her I hadn't been a member that long and it wouldn't be fair to give them all 10's when my attendance at McDonalds is higher than it is at Genesis currently. (You gonna finish those fries?) I find the facility to be nice, however there was no explanation on how to use any of the machines so I have to watch others and with all the mirrors I look like an intrusive overweight middle aged creeper begging for pepper spray in the parking lot. The staff seems stressed and I get the feeling it's because it's a high pressure sales environment. One day I went in and this poor kid at the front desk asked me if I knew of anyone else that I could bring in to work out because he needed to get more members in. I said no and don't call my emergency contact the manager already did, and it is 2 p.m. she's probably wasted by now. Things might improve if I ever get back in to work out, I tore my MCL stepping off the curb at KFC so once I recover I'll see how things go. It might be better for you this has just been my experience.

Unfortunately the young lady running the event did not have pickleball experience. Placing a number 1 or 2 behind each score sheet would let players know who would serve first not playing rock, paper scissors. I felt bad for guys who travelled the first day to play two games and be sent home. The second day was run much smoother under different rules. Everyone played more games. All in all still a fun place to play. Genesis you need to have chairs in your front lobby that don't look like you got them from a second hand store. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms kept clean.

Were it not for the incredible coaching skills and encouragement from trainers Thomas, Kyle and Andrew, I would not have found my love for powerlifting and be preparing for my first competition. If you want hands-on attention and training without the cost of a personal trainer, this is the place for you. Their focus on education and injury prevention is top-notch, their approach truly comprehensive. They even have kids crossfit, crossfit masters (ages 50+), and crossfit moms (pre- and post-natal) classes! Thanks to CFL, I can now do things which I never thought I'd do - Olympic lifting, powerlifting, unassisted pull-ups, dozens and dozens of push-ups, handstands, gymnastics, running 7 minute miles, etc. My level of fitness has never been higher and there's plenty of room for growth and improvement. The facility at 22nd & Haskell is roomy and the walls are covered in striking street-style graffiti. It might not seem a place where you would find yourself, but once you're there it feels like home. There's a great sense of camaraderie and support among the CFL members. Everyone encourages each other to keep going, to work hard, and congratulates each other on a good workout. It's rare to find such a good group of folks who have nothing but truly and sincerely nice things to say about each other. If you want to take your fitness to the next level, enjoy your workouts and meet some great people, this is the place for you. I, for one, will be happy to make your acquaintance.

Thomas, Kyle, and Andrew are fantastic coaches, incorporating contagious enthusiasm and energy with the Crossfit methodology and up-to-date certification and education. Membership at CFL is mostly young 20-somethings, but there is also a strong core of more mature athletes and athletes-in-training. Regardless, everyone I've met there has been friendly, supportive, and excited. If you are inexperienced with Crossfit, expect a friendly welcome, and be ready to jump into the most efficient training program I have encountered.
