I joined FFL mid November 2018, having no idea where to start. But I wanted to point out that during summer 2018, I was only able to squat with the bar at the gym..maybe 5-10lbs on each side if it was a good day, but after going to FFL pretty religiously, I'm happy to say I was able to squat with 25lbs on each side! ;__; I was incredibly shocked to say the least - I haven't squatted with the bar for over four months. Less than two months with FFL and I was able to do that! Perhaps by the end of 2019 I'll be able to squat at least one full plate on each side :) The gym is open Monday-Thursday and there are classes in the mornings and evenings. Each class is about an hour in length and each day focuses on a different body part (upper body, legs, core, full body). Each week is a completely different workout, which I really appreciate because I would get bored otherwise. The MV location is probably one of the bigger locations (in terms of members and size). I've been going here for 3+ years and had to give my feedback. I love this place - the workouts are never the same and it's always so much fun. Each week has the following focus: Monday upper body Tuesday lower body Wednesday abs Thursday full body Jermaine and Shani recently took over as trainers in the Mountain View location. They've added their own spin to the workouts and are so supportive and helpful. People are at various levels - beginner to advanced and many in between - so you fit right in. The good: I enjoyed the time frame of the one here in Redwood City 6 AM and 7 AM. As well as split time in Mountain View for that one as well starting at 6 PM. First couple of weeks you will get a good burn. Instructors are very helpful especially the RWC location. Price and with Groupon is really cheap. The Bad: The workouts got very boring. At one point we continued to do the same thing just slightly different. MTV class was extemely packed and was shared with a bunch of cheerleader kids. Overall: If you are trying to stay fit and looking for a better than a gym experience this will work for you (older or really out of shape.) I have been a member for the past 6 months and each day has been awesome. Every day new workouts, new circuits, and James is one of the great instructors I have come across, its a joy going to FFL every day. I am so blessed to have found Fit 4 Life. I've learned how to eat and what not to eat and now I enjoy exercise for the first time in my life, it is truly an amazing place to work out. You have personal trainers that help you achieve your goals, everybody motivate's each other, everybody helps everybody, truly a fun group. When I showed up for orientation I weighed 239 lbs and had NO energy, 6 weeks later at my weigh in I was 214 lbs and never felt better. It's not like a gym, more like a family of friends that want you and help you to achieve your goals. I just started my second challenge and looking forward to loosing another 24 lbs in the next 6 weeks :-) I am forever grateful to Roy for starting this program and to all the wonderful trainers and workout partners for all the support and motivation thus far. Great location (just off the 101 exit), big parking lot and a great instructor (James). He is very easy going and friendly guy who keeps motivating you in his own way. Although I have access to a pretty big gym at my workplace, I drove out of the way from Sunnyvale (just opposite direction of my home) to go to this location because it was good 45 minutes of workout and workouts keep changing so you won't get bored. Please talk to James if you want to develop one ab in just one workout :). You do that there, come home, look into the mirror and yay!! read more

I have been going regularly 4 to 5 times per week to Fit for Life in Mountain View. James and Katie, the instructors, are approachable, engaging and keep the class motivated throughout. Although I have been going to the 6:00 AM class with very few exceptions, I do like the flexibility of multiple morning and afternoon classes, which leave little to no room for excuses. I haven't been participating in any of the 6-week challenges, I hear that attendees see results and feel great doing it. The monthly fee is extremely reasonable, and the value for the money is great. Make sure to ask the instructors for guidance if you aren't sure how to perform an exercise correctly and to stretch out properly after class! Enjoy! read more

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The 5AM class is an awesome group of people led by an even more awesome trainer, James Hitch. I will highlight the positives that stood out to me. 1. Trainer is READY and SET-UP for our class session EVERY SINGLE MORNING. I appreciate this because I've been in classes where the trainer open the doors 5 minutes before class is to start and begin setting up then. Often times it took away from our class workout time because setting up workout stations can be time consuming. Since we were the first class of the day, the second class has to start on time, so we often ended up with a shorter workout time. 2. Mix group of people, different ages, cultures, body types all show up and give off an uplifting, encouraging energy that is felt. 3. The trainer clearly looks like a poster guy for fitness. I've had trainers who didn't look the part and it made it more difficult to mentally buy into what they were teaching. 4. Trainer is both encouraging and engaging. James corrected my form and motion a couple of times my first visit. He's able to conduct a large class size with ease and can see who's struggling and he will walk over to encourage you and count a rep with you to completion. He walks around singing and sometimes dancing through class to sprinkle humor and laughter if the energy gets a little dry and serious like on Monday mornings. 5. It's wonderful to see people who just start out transform their bodies and confidence within a few months. 6. There are a lot of professionals that come to this class and I can appreciate how they do not talk so much about work. After all, we are all there to workout and de-stress. I recommend Fit for life to anyone looking to transform your life. ********FYI: I had to cancel my membership because we are moving to Sacramento. I heard about this challenge through a friend and am so happy she told me about it! At first it seemed too good to be true -- losing 20lbs in 6 weeks. But 6 weeks later I was down 21 lbs! The workouts were very challenging and fun. Not to mention, it felt great once I started getting compliments from family & friends. Fit For Life Solutions was very disappointing. I decided to try it because it's literally 2 miles from my work. However, I've been to enough group fitness classes to say that this one is by far one of the worst. 1) The instructors are not friendly. I've had 3 different ones and none of them introduced themselves to me or asked for my name. They didn't ask anybody if they were new or give a welcome to the new people. 2) The instructors are not engaging or motivating. At the group fitness studios that I've have memberships to the instructors are walking around, checking people's form, shouting out words of encouragement and getting involved. The instructors are Fit For Life Solutions are often on the sidelines looking like they are bored and waiting for class to be over. Also, they should show modifications for people who can't do certain workouts or have bad knees, etc. 3) My friend and I tried to attend the Sunnyvale location only to drive there and find an empty studio. Nowhere on the website does it say this studio is closed. I tried to call the 800 number off the website and it lead me nowhere. When we emailed Roy about it he avoided the question. 4) The name "Fit For Life Solutions" is odd to me after my experience. When I read that, I thought it meant that I would learn skills that I could take home with me or perhaps they would teach us other ways we can stay fit. That way, its not just a 1 hour workout, but a lifestyle change. Overall, I was very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone. The only reason I didn't give it 1 star was because I did get a good workout, but I can get a good workout at the gym or at the other studios I have memberships for and have a much better experience. read more

We've been huge Fit for Life fans since 2017, but we only started coming to this location in May of this year. James is AMAZING, and an all-around cool guy. The workouts vary from location to location, and we really like the pace Mountainview offers. Plus, the facility offers a lot of space for larger classes. Five stars! read more

I joined for 6 weeks because I bought a Groupon. The prices were too steep for me to stick around longer than that. Pros: Chris sets up good circuits with decent equipment. He usually has someone there to help him with form and timing. He takes the time to learn names which was a plus. Cons: There are no shower facilities. The space is shared with cheerleaders and dancers. There's competing music between the three groups at any time. Speaking of music, Chris uses his Pandora station but you have to deal with commercials ... so there's that. The sizes of the classes aren't limited so it could range from 20-30+ at any given time which can get pretty cramped. I personally don't believe that the workouts were designed with those with knee injuries. There were some modifications though. Classes do not start on time so don't rush to get there right at the start time. read more

I joined Fit for Life on a special 6 week trial. It is a great workout in 50 minutes, four days a week. You run a circuit routine focusing on a particular area each of the four days. It is intense, so pace yourself so you can make it through the week. Trainers are excellent. I went to a few different locations, and all the trainers were fantastic. read more

Only great things to say about this place. I've been coming to Fit for Life in Mountain View since October, I'd experimented with a couple other boot camp groupons but became a full-time member here as soon as my trial expired. Totally worth it! Great location, good equipment, and fantastic trainers that always give one-on-one attention during workouts. Each day focuses on a different area- arms, legs, abs- so you'll never be sore in one place for too long! If you're training for something, or have some sort of injury, Chris/Gavin/Roy are always there to give recommendations and help you do your best. Saw Fit For Life randomly trolling through Facebook one day., "Lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks" it said.. chuckling at that miracle, and thinking "I'm going to Maui in exactly six weeks".. I gave it a try. I chose the Mountain View location as it's super close to me, and James & Ash are great! Yes, it's not super one one one, it's a structured boot camp, but the second you shout "James!" he guides you & ensures you are doing correctly. Ash is always helpful as well! I do the 6 am class and see all of the same faces, all extremely friendly and I feel our 6 am class has a great dynamic! Also, I had a question in regards to my billing, called Bo and he was super helpful and answered all my questions, I hung up the phone with a big smile. :D I've got two of my coworkers to join, and they love it too! I've been going to Fit 4 Life Mountain View location for over a year now. I go for the 6am class and can say that it's a great way to start the day. I find that I have more energy during the days when I do the morning class. James and Katie are great instructors. They mix up the routines so it doesn't get boring. The circuits are a combination of indoors and outdoors which keeps it "fresh" :-) I haven't done the 6 week challenges, but I can say that the regular workouts have definitely helped me. read more

I have been coming to Mountain View gym for over a year now. The workouts set by James are awesome. They are easy to follow and can be performed by beginners as well as advanced members. I worked out throughout my pregnancy (up to end of week 36) and James was kind enough to customize the workouts for me. I joined the gym right after my maternity leave and followed James workouts. Disclaimer: Bought the 6-week Groupon, pretty sure I only went for 3. Welp. My lack of commitment certainly wasn't because of the FFL quality, though. I had a decently fun time early morning. It was suuuuper confusing on how to get started the very first day though. I ended up awkwardly sitting outside in the dance studio waiting room for at least 15 mins. In the dark. Told you I'm awkward. PRO-TIP: If you're just beginning, don't wait in the initial lobby. Walk PAST the lobby inside into the workout area, and turn right as there's the FFL office in the back. If you sit in the lobby in the front, that's for a separate dance company, and nobody from FFL is going to go and try to find you there. Fortunately the other classmates were friendly enough to show me the way, and once I signed up there really wasn't any follow up (including after I just... disappeared after week 3. Where's the chase? Ok, maybe that's expecting too much, but that certainly would've brought me some delight and maybe even a stronger commitment to returning and becoming a full-time member.) Apart from the very awkward and weird initiation, the class is fairly easy to follow and folks of all levels show up to each class, it seems. I completed the 6-Week Challenge, which I totally enjoyed even though I did not lose the 20 pounds (18.5). At the end of the challenge the lead trainer (Beau) offered me a reduced membership of $59 for 3 months instead $99 that I accepted. He advised that he would use my card on file and no additional paperwork was completed. At the end of the 3 months I advised that due to my work schedule I would be ending the membership and he while sad to see me go wished me well. I recently learned that my membership was not cancelled via an audit of my account and immediately reached out to the owner Roy Schuhmacher explaining that I had spoken with Beau and that I cancelled my membership in August effective 9/1/17 and asked for a refund. Here is his response "I will cancel moving forward and make sure no more charges happens, but unless you emailed in our have something written about a cancel, thats the only way we take cancelation, I won't be refunding". He did offer me a credit to continue working out at his facility however, I cancelled due to my work schedule so a credit would not benefit me. My issue is the owners lack of customer service... I was not told of the cancelation policy, I did not sign anything authorizing them to bill my card on a monthly basis and he did not even offer to meet me half way. I am currently in the process of appealing this with my bank. read more

They also keep it interesting by changing the exercises on a regular basis. They also show you modifications for each station if you have specific injuries or are not comfortable with the difficulty level. You have to try it out. I worked out at the Mountain View location for about a year and a half until my work took me elsewhere, but I am just getting around to writing a review. James was an absolutely fantastic trainer in terms of formulating classes that are effective for both toning, strength, and cardio conditioning. If you do the workouts correctly and you actually put in 100% effort, there is absolutely no way that this won't work for you. That being said, the instructors are not going to be in your ear motivating you to actually put in max effort - classes are simply too large. Class times were very convenient, great community of customers and instructors, solid facility (shower would have been nice for morning workouts) - highly recommended. read more

A friend talked me into trying out the Groupon for FFL in 2016 for the 6 week trial period. I thought I was in great condition. After my first legs day I could barely walk down stairs! 3 years later I'm still going regularly and notice a difference in my mood and energy levels when I don't make it. I love how much stronger I feel and I shaved a minute off of my running pace through the strength training I receive at FFL. James and Kat are wonderful! James finds a way to keep things fun, he's always coming up with games, riddles or just great new workouts to keep things interesting. I enjoy the morning classes best, everyone is friendly and I love that it's a class for all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities. James always provides options for different levels of ability, whether you're just starting out, or you want an extra challenge. I'm a high energy, fit person but I don't feel comfortable going to gyms where I feel like everyone is just there to check each other out. This feels more like getting together with a group of friends. It's a social outlet for me not just a physical outlet. If you are new to exercise, ask James and Kat for tips on your form and for modifications, they are happy to help make sure you're doing things safely. Then, once you know what you're doing, you'll love the modifications James provides to kick things up notch. I love a challenge and it's always rewarding to realize I can do the more difficult moves, even if it's just a few reps. :) read more

I was at that low point when you just feel fat, out of shape like nothing will change when I joined the FFL challenge in August 2017. I thought it was a scam at first. But it was the best decision I ever made. Lost 22 pounds in the first 6 week challenge and since then have gone on to lose 63 lbs so far and still counting. I am definitely fitter, leaner and in the best shape of my life. It literally saved my life. The workouts are fun and get you energized. It's hard work but definitely worth it. James is great trainer. he works a lot of hours and is very busy but always tries to respond when you email. he will also modify any workout that you need modified. Join, you won't regret it. This gym is amazing, the trainer, owner and fellow gym members. Everyone is super supportive and encouraging, which makes you want to come back every day and do your best. My first 6 week challenge was 8/21/17- it was tough, because I'd never worked out a day in my life. James is so genuine, he wants everyone to feel like they have a place here and makes an effort to modify the workouts to keep your safety in mind as well. With so much positivity and 4 challenges later, I was able to lose 92 lbs. in 8 months. There are pros and cons to every gym. And FFL has both. However any gym is what you make of it and I made this one my home. I've gotten to know several people in the MTV location and it's fun to push them and to be pushed by them. People at the MTV location are very friendly and James (the instructor) is a fun instructor. I did lose 21.5 lbs during the 6 week challenge, with a final weight of 149.5 but I worked my butt off for it. FFL gave me the motivation to start working out again. Would not recommend using this gym. It's shady business, and when I tried to cancel my membership back in April (it is now November), the gym employee told me he would cancel my membership for me. Well, I checked my bank account last month and realized I had been getting charged each month for it. Then when I called to cancel it AGAIN, the woman working said she couldn't cancel it, and I had to contact their billing company to do it myself (?!!?!?!? any legitimate business would NOT make their members contact their billing company themselves to end memberships). There was no information about this on the website. The next let down came when I called the billing company and the rude woman told me that not only was it my fault for not contacting them sooner (again, how would I have known to do this?) but that I would be getting charged for another month because they can't process cancellations inside a 30 day period. Absolutely horrible customer service across the board. Use your money at a gym that is responsible, legitimate, and will give a refund when they clearly made a mistake. read more

I attended an "orientation" session at Fit For Life Solutions in Mountain View, along with about 30 other people. I had purchased a groupon for $35 for a six week Boot Camp. We sat in folding chairs and listened to a sales presentation by the owner. He talked for about 40 minutes and then handed out multi-page forms and pens for people to sign up for a six week "challenge". The cost of the "challenge" was not given verbally. It was on the last page of the form. The cost is $397 and it is called a "deposit" because you're supposed to be refunded the $397 if you succeed in losing 20 pounds in six weeks. You put up the $397 by giving them your credit card information and then attend one-hour exercise sessions four times per week for six weeks. You have to weigh in on Monday of each week. Also, the contract requires that if you have a lot of weight to lose, you must sign up for a second "challenge" (contract bet). Your deposit rolls over to the next challenge. That appears to mean that you don't get your money back unless you lose 40 pounds in 12 weeks. Also, the contract specifies that you must write an online review at the end of your contract. Let's say you commit to one challenge. Twenty pounds divided by six weeks is over 3.3 lbs every week. At 3500 calories per pound, you would need to burn off an average of 1640 calories more than you take in every day for six weeks. How are you going to do that? Not with an hour of exercise four times per week, no matter how intense it is. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would require an extremely low calorie diet in addition to the intense exercise. After the 40 minute presentation, the owner took questions. I asked the owner about my groupon. I asked if the groupon means that my deposit is $35 instead of $397. He said "No, the groupon just gives you access to classes. Most people only lose 3 or 4 pounds in six weeks with the groupon." He mentioned an additional food plan (which he acknowledged that you can buy on Amazon), and supplements, which he did not decribe further. If you are motivated by putting up a bet on yourself, I suggest you participate in one of the online programs where you can actually get more money back than you put in, by participating in a pool of people. There are several reputable websites like that. Or you could give a friend $397 and tell him to donate it to a cause you are opposed to if you don't meet your goal. You could join a really good gym for the roughly $264 per month this would cost. This is not a really good gym. It's a small converted warehouse space. I left without signing anything because it appeared to me to be a "bait and switch" scheme. I bought a $35 Boot Camp groupon and was asked to put up $397 instead. On the plus side, I got a refund on my groupon because it was within 3 days of purchase. I hope this helps you. read more

For my first structured bootcamp, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I got the Groupon for three weeks....in hindsight totally wish I did 6 weeks because it is super cheap compared to other classes. I am a pretty fit person who did the typical routine of treadmill, arms, and core every single day. I didnt change it up one bit and I knew I wasnt getting fit for it. I also had Hawaii coming up so I took advantage of this deal. You buy the groupon and email them about the time and location you want to attend. I think once you sign up for the location, you have to stick to it but you can definitely switch up the class times you want to attend. They have super early ones or 5, 6, 7 and 8pm. Tried 6 7 8 and I definitely preferred 6. It starts 5 minutes past the hour with the warm up and tends to end at the hour. This place is hard to get to and we walked into a gymnastic gym but it is a few buildings behind, just ask the gym and they will know FFL. I attended the first class which also shares with dance teams but it is an open area with weights and whatever for your workout. During those three weeks, exercises were not repeated. You do arms on Monday, legs on Tuesday, core on Wednesday, and everything on Thursday. No Friday classes. I never dedicated a whole day to a body part so it was definitely interesting to work my body like that. The classes can be tough and exhausting but you just have to push yourself. They arent gonna put weight loss on a silver platter so it is whatever you make it. Others complained that there were no introductions and you dont even know the two instructors names...I mean it would have been nice and you can introduce yourself but they assume you are a regular so you just go straight to work out. There isnt much partner work since you do rotations...it is nice to have someone because I couldnt remember all the moves. Luckily I had my boyfriend there and it was fun to work out with him on a cadence. Couples who work together stick together. I wish at the end of each class I wrote down each exercise because its been a few weeks since class is over, I go to my gym and I am back in my lame routine! If I were you, sign up initially with Groupon with 6 weeks. I didnt see a major difference in my appearance or stamina but I did feel like I had a good workout every day :) read more

I would highly recommend not joining. The deals sound too good to be true but in reality Roy is a certified pompous ass. 1. If you are injured during this process and are advised by a doctor he will not refund your money. (He says credit card charges apply) 2. In his orientation he promises you this diet- Its generic and not centered around vegetarians at all (his dietician and other trainers have no clue what vegetarians should eat- recommends protein shakes) 3. The class size is so large that there is absolutely no individual attention 4. The class does get monotonous over times 5. His entire goal for this is to get these reviews put up with the pictures of the one person out of 100 who shrunk in his camps every few weeks. Truth be told its not a healthy to lose twenty pounds in 6 weeks unless you are really over weight. He is all about the money and not to mention he is rude and arrogant. WATCH OUT GUYS!! read more

I got a Groupon to try out the bootcamp classes. I'm so glad I just got the 3 week trial. I was very disappointed with the instructors and the classes. a. There are 2 instructors, one of them is just watching the phone for the time and telling us to switch stations b. The other one is just chatting up - telling them she likes their shoes or sweatshirts etc. I expect bootcamp classes to be intense and instructors to be watching everyone form (as much as possible). I saw some people with very bad form and no one corrected them. It is a recipe to get injured. So try it at your own risk! read more
