I just got back from the Costa Rica trip. It was amazing, as usual. The diving was a little rough, but we got to see octopus, bull sharks, and more urchins than I have ever seen in one place. The star fish were amazing. The 2 resorts we stayed at were beautiful. There were a lot of hills and stairs but still very nice. The tours Curt and Carly arranged were fabulous. My roommate was just delightful. As as a professional clown, I could certainly appreciate the blue hair. Just one warning, the waterfall tour is 530 stairs to go down to the pools, which means 530 stairs up. But I did it, yahoo for me. Oh, yeah, the hanging bridges tour is a 4 mile hike, but OMG, the nature, monkeys, sloths, snakes, frogs, trees, flowers, and birds...just WOW! I don't think I'd go back to dive. However, just to see the country is freaking amazing. Another fabulous trip! Thank you, Carly and Curt. read more

Went through our open water dive course with fisheye, the instructor Mike was amazing!! He gave us some great recommendations on personal gear the first time we met in the shop. Felt extremely comfortable in the water with him the entire time. He was extremely calm, encouraging, knowledgeable and just genuinely a great guy, fun to be around. We did the confined dives in the owners pool in Folsom, the open water dives we completed in Monterey. Another instructor, Jesse, joined us on the Monterey dives, equally fantastic instructor! Each time we visited the shop, the staff were very friendly, informed, and helpful. The owner Carly was a great source of info on dive gear as well and was very prompt getting us all the info for set up and completion of the course. Ultimately we completed the course feeling competent in the skills needed to dive. Would HIGHLY recommend Fisheye for your scuba courses!! read more

BUYER BEWARE!! The poorly trained, very young employees will rent you wetsuits that are shredded in all the wrong places- terribly wrong and also convince you that the wetsuit you can only get to your knees in the dressing room is "too big" and that it will be easier to get on when it's wet- also wrong. I brought my 2 children in to try wetsuits on. Noticed a small hole in one of them and Brandon, the employee, assured me that it would work just fine and that he didn't have anymore in that size. My other child was given a wetsuit based on his weight and height to try on. We tried for half an hour in the dressing room and could barely get it beyond the knees. Brandon assured us that the wetsuit was too big and that it would be easier to put on once it was wet. We took his word for it, and paid $165 to rent them for 10 days. My youngest child got into his wetsuit, and in the sunlight, I noticed the seam ripping apart on his back and so I asked him to bend over so I could see how much was exposed. I was completely shocked to see underwear through a large hole and that almost the whole seem was ready to blow. One more pull on, and it probably would've completely blown and yet they expected us to use this for 10 days with no problems? My other child, who Brandon told "it is too big and will be easier to get on when it's wet" got into the pool with it and tried to get it on. But still, barely went passed the knees, even after coating with liquid dish soap and tugging for almost an hour. I immediately drove back to the store within two hours of renting these, and was told that I could not get a refund. I was told my only option was to get store credit, even though they did not have any more wetsuits in the right sizes to rent to me. The employee, Brandon, shrugged it off so I asked him to call the store owner/his boss. He rudely agreed and then proceeded to go in the back room to call her instead of calling her right there in front of me. He came back, saying he would only offer store credit, even after I showed him the sign that said they would accept returns for exchange OR credit your account. At that point, asked for her phone number and called her myself. Her name is Carly Bradley and she calls herself the CEO of Fish Eye Scuba. I explained the whole problem to her, and she said that the employee, Brandon, had told her a completely different story on the phone. She argued with me for a while saying that she just wanted my kids to be warm and that I should just continue renting the shredded wetsuit for my youngest. They didn't have another in that size. She argued with me back-and-forth for maybe 10 minutes out loud in the store on speaker with other customers listening. Finally, she told Brandon to give me a refund. I also wanted my paperwork back that had my credit card number on it. He said that it would be shredded. I demanded he gave it to me right there and finally he did and then I left. Tell me, would you want your child's underwear/private parts exposed while they are bending over and playing on a pubic beach? (The light gray circle is underwear showing through the hole). ***EDITED TO ADD*** Looks like this place has several one star reviews by others who have been scammed. Carly, Kurt, and the entire team that we interacted with at Fisheye Scuba were truly fantastic. They are not only extremely knowledgeable instructors, but genuine and good people. My thanks also to Rusty, Joy, Caleb, and Chad during the process. They collectively keep the process informed and fun. On a different note, you can tell a lot about the character of a person...and of a business, by how they handle challenging situations. I have personally seen them deal with several challenging situations with grace and professionalism each time. The last thing I would share as a beginning diver is that I didn't anticipate how much the concept of trust affects your experience in learning to dive. Trust earned between you as a student with your instructors, between you and your buddy you pair up with, and between the members of your diving group that that depend on you and learn with you. Because as fun and amazing as scuba diving is, it is not without inherent risks, and it requires a level of seriousness around certain subjects. For me, after the experience of becoming certified, trust is the most important thing, and I trust the entire team at Fisheye Scuba. Just over two weeks ago my partner and I made travel plans that required PADI certification. Normally I would've nope'd out of that scenario so fast due to a few water related panic/anxiety attacks I've had, but I figured it's time to conquer my fears, and I'm glad I did. After a google search, I found Fisheye Scuba and we decided to go check out the shop. Within seconds of entering we were greeted by Brandon, who was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We spent at least an hour asking questions and left feeling very comfortable and excited. That night, I sent an enquiry on their website and got a phone call from Carly within minutes. She was super helpful and patient with my questions and recommended that we sign up for a class that started only a few days out. We took the plunge, signed up for the class, and went back to the store the next day to purchase the required gear. This time, an employee named Caleb was there. He was also very knowledgeable and super helpful. He took us around the store and explained each and every piece of gear that was required. Not once did he try to upsell us on anything. Each item, from mask and snorkel, gloves, to booties (?), to the fins, was like having our own private educational class. It was all about finding the right fit, comfort, and feel. Again, I asked 100 questions and received 100 answers that put my mind at ease and made me feel 100% satisfied with my purchase. After a few days of online training, Saturday morning was the first big day... "confined water training" on the windiest/rainiest day in a long time! This is when we first met Curt, who taught us how to hook up the regulator first stage to the air tank and to the BCD. We then suited up and got into the pool. We practiced everything that we learned about in the online training, from flooding our mask and clearing it, recovering the regulator, to fully removing and replacing the mask, manually inflating the bcd, buoyancy, and so much more. After those two days, I felt ready for the ocean. The following weekend we were headed to Monterey! This brings us to the main event.. scuba diving in Monterey. Fortunately for us, the weather was beautiful with sunny skies and very clear visibility. Our first dive was probably the toughest out of all four for me because I didn't know what to expect. On the way down, as anticipated, I had difficulty equalizing my ears. The "plug your nose and blow" technique just doesn't work for me, but swallowing does. However, trying to swallow underwater with a regulator in your mouth is easier said than done. On this dive, and all subsequent dives, I took the longest to get down to the bottom (roughly 30'), but I did it! After doing the partial flood and clear, and then the reg recovery, we were off to just explore the ocean floor with our divemasters. Here comes the only time during this whole experience where I felt uncomfortable. I forgot to slightly inflate my BCD to get neutral, and kept sinking to the bottom when swimming. I was trying to communicate this to my buddy and to whoever else was around me, but in that moment of spinning left and right looking around I suddenly was hit with vertigo and became extremely dizzy. Carly immediately noticed and grabbed me. I signaled to go up but she gave me the sign to breathe and calm, which I did. She held me as I breathed in and out and within 15 seconds I felt like my normal self again. From there, we continued on and she stayed with me and held my hand to keep me comfortable which might sound silly but I totally appreciated it! Thank you Carly. The next 3 dives and underwater tests went great! On our fourth dive, we got to do our own thing and practiced swimming with our buddy. It was AMAZING! We saw a few seals, lots of moon jellies, sea urchins, sea slugs, some small fish, loads of HUGE starfish, and so much more. It really was incredible and the cold water didn't even seem to phase me through the excitement. In the end, I am soooo happy that I went through with this and conquered my fears. I didn't mention it before, but I tried once over 15 years ago to get scuba certified and had a panic attack and cancelled my class the day after I purchased it. Honestly, if it weren't for Fisheye Scuba, I'm not sure this would have been so easy for me to achieve. Carly, Curt, Brandon, and Caleb were all amazing in every way imaginable. I've barely known them for a few weeks now, but in a way they feel like family. You can tell that they care passionately about scuba, safety, and doing everything in a professional manner without cutting corners. For anyone looking to get PADI Open Water certified, I highly recommend Fisheye Scuba... 110%. If you have even the slightest anxiety about learning to scuba dive, this is the place for you. Also, I can't forget to mention the ever-encouraging fist bumps from Curt underwater. Thanks again for everything! As expected she just argues w costumers and doesn't rectify the situation. I understand she is a business owner doesn't mean you still can't be a good human and be kind. Carly and her team are simply the best dive professionals I have dove with. My son and I took a dive trip to Cozumel with Fisheye Scuba and I cannot say enough about the diving and travel experience. We felt 100% safe in the water and our dives were amazing. We were able to see so many wonderful creatures in the water and even out of the water at our resort. The resort was beautiful, food amazing and we felt right at home with the rest of group that came on the trip. I haven't dove for awhile and had a little panic moment and Kurt was there to help me in a non-second. My son and I also took our Nitrox Course from Carly and she was super helpful! My wife and I were heading to Mexico and wanted to do a refresher course before we left. We are both open water certified but it had been some time since our last dive. We had so much fun with Carly and Curt as our instructors. We were in a class with other divers just learning how to scuba dive and they did a great job at making it fun interesting for us as well as going through all the individual levels needed for the new drivers to get there Open Water certification. I got certified with Fisheye Scuba almost 2 years ago. I was so nervous! But both the owners, Carly and Kurt, made sure that I was safe and comfortable. They also have other experienced divers working with them (both Mikes) who took me aside and gave me 1:1 time until I got the hang of it. Now I LOVE IT!! My dream is to accompany them on some of the travel dives... Diving is an expensive sport, but I have been able to rent equipment and join them for some of the "Discover Local Diving" trips at a reasonable cost. As a solo participant, I was worried I would feel lonely if I didn't show up with a partner. So far, everyone I've met has been very friendly and both the staff and other divers have made me feel very welcome. Definitely deal with Fisheye cautiously especially if you're looking to book a trip. Certainly a hit or miss, shop is solid though on selection and basics. They should revise some of their policies on returns etc. to be more customer friendly. Did not interact with owner, but have heard from multiple people she's defensive and callous towards customers. So I don't dive, but if I did, these are the guys I would depend on for all my gear and information needs. I came in to have a compressed air tank filled for an avalanche airbag. I bought the airbag used and had not yet tested it. I told the guys my plan to fill, test, and then fill again. They had never seen or heard of an avalanche airbag and were just as excited to see me test it as I was. They filled the small compressed air tank, I got the airbag prepped, and pulled 'ripcord'. Happily, the airbag filled without issue, and everyone was excited to witness the test. Having never used the airbag, I had no idea how to prep it for the next use, as it was much more involved than just refilling the tank. We jumped on YouTube, watched the instructions on how to reset the trigger mechanism, and filled the tank again. The crew at Fisheye Scuba were so helpful and accommodating. I hope I never have to use the bag in real any conditions, but if I do have to fill the tank again I will be back. Thanks so much! read more

Update: I took my broken regulator to a shop in Sacramento, and they had it fixed the next day. I had even looked for the part myself after dropping it off and was able to find two sources that could have sent me one for $12 and had it in a couple days. The Sacramento shop also found two holes in the diaphragm and a major high pressure leak in the "spooler" at the SPG (the swivel joint on the hose), which Fisheye somehow didn't notice. Update 11/6/19 - I received an e-mail from the CEO, not apologizing, but instead calling me a liar and a bully, and threatening to sue me if I don't take down this review (assuring me they've done it before and won). To top it off, they proceeded to defame the other company out of spite. read more

My wife and I took a side trip to this dive shop looking for a 7mm wetsuit. Unfortunately, they did not have one in her size, but the staff there (a single male) was super friendly, and he let her try on about 6 wetsuits, and tried really hard to find one that fit. He even got us a couple of glasses of water without us asking! Top notch service, nice store, but somewhat limited selection (as to be expected). I would have loved to buy her suit there, had they had the right thickness and size! read more

Back in October of 2020 We booked a trip with Fisheye Scuba in Folsom to go to Cozumel which cost just over $7000. On January 12th of 2021 new travel restrictions were issued regarding travel coming into the U.S. Based on numerous issues including work schedules, custody agreements and the fact that 2 of our children could only travel with one parent, we immediately contacted Fisheye in order to cancel the trip as we could not risk the potential of several family members being required to stay in Mexico for an additional 10 days and possibly longer after our trip was supposed to have ended. When asking for a refund We were told that the trip was non-refundable which was nowhere in the emails or invoices that we were sent. Then we were told that they understood what we wanted and were working on it and to give them a day or so. We have never been contacted and given updates and we can rarely get ahold of anyone and when we do, we are just told that they are working on it. This was the first and last trip we will be booking with Fisheye, not to mention the thousands of dollars we have spent with them in the past for gear and classes will now be going to a shop elsewhere. Warning to everyone planning on using this business, do not book trips through them as they will not issue refunds even when government restrictions make it unrealistic for you to go on the trip. read more

Each of us had a "skill" in class that scared us and they worked through it with us and were amazing. Me and a few others walked out saying "I felt like my father was teaching me". Today I should have left for my Belize trip that I booked in January. Unfortunately, Fisheye Scuba dropped the ball. They never notified me the trip was cancelled. I found this out via one of their contracted Dive Masters 10 days before my trip when I called him to set up a review pool session. Apparently, Fisheyes other business, Sac Water Sports had shut down in March and there was indeed some financial problems. I went to Fisheye and requested a refund IMMEDIATELY from the young sales clerk. She was very pleasant and tried to remedy it quickly to no avail and so she called Curtis Wilson, the owner, in front of me. He said he would call me that day and he did not and never did. Fortunately, I was able to get my $2300 back from my credit card company. Unfortunately, after significant research, I find that others have not been so fortunate, including one man who paid cash and has been waiting for several months after paying cash for an Australian trip. If you pay with a credit card you stand a chance of reimbursement for "services not delivered" but those who paid cash can get screwed. Sure, if you want to go buy a snorkel, then that probably will be ok - although they will never get my business again. BUT, IF YOU WANT A DIVE TRIP ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BOOK ONE WITH FISHEYE SCUBA!!!! There is no guarantee the trip will ever happen. If you see good reviews about Fisheye on Yelp, it is likely for the previous owner. This is my opinion and I am not going to back down about Fisheyes appalling business practices. read more

We were told "hi" as we walked into the store, and for the next nearly 10 minutes totally ignored as we stared at the wall of masks while the shop girl chatted with a guy at the counter about what people they knew in common and had dated.
