Day of, I called to let them know I'd be running a little late past my booking time, I spoke with Jamie and she said thank you for the heads up, we'll see you soon." I arrive for her to tell me that all state parks are full and she blocks bookings off after 11, knowing that I booked for 11:30. I do understand that it's a holiday and a weekend, so state parks being at full capacity is out of her hands. What I do not appreciate was her tone and attitude with us versus other customers, her not giving us a heads up knowing we were running late, and she still gave people more of the options of getting their rentals and where they can try versus what felt like she was simply dismissing us. May try to come again, but for a 2 hour drive and to receive customer service like that in person versus whoever I previously spoke to on the phone- to be determined.

They were incredibly easy to work with and managed to get us in for a Father's Day weekend charter on short notice on Folsom Lake, which was much appreciated. We booked a 3-hour trip and packed in a ton of fun! The crew was totally flexible and let us customize the experience to be exactly what we wanted. We cruised around the lake, swam, and even tried water surfing behind the boat. Sky was amazing with our daughter--she gave her a lesson, walked her through the basics, and coached her the entire way. It made the experience so much more memorable for our family. They came fully equipped with everything we needed, including life vests for the whole crew. Whether we had wanted to just relax and cruise or stay in the water the whole time, they were happy to go with whatever worked for us. Next time, we're definitely going to try the tubes and the floating island--they had it all ready and it looked like a blast. The hotel was the perfect combo of luxe, jungle living. Steps from the ocean, the property was exactly what I was hoping for. The pool was a nice touch and the open air restaurant on-site was fresh and delicious. Now for the surfing and yoga! I was a beginner at yoga at the time and Cris was an amazing instructor. I felt completely comfortable and excited to push myself to learn more. The open air yoga studio overlooking the ocean was so peace during each morning yoga sesh. So, even though I have lived in San Diego my whole life, I waited until my 30s and going to Costa Rica to learn to surf. Crazy! But I am glad I did, because the rolling waves in Costa Rica were so perfect to learn on. The small groups at Pura Vida coupled with the super experienced instructors really helped me feel like I was getting one-on-one attention. I was so proud of myself for pushing through my fear and riding waves in. By the end of the week, I was both refreshed (mind) and exhausted (body). With two small kids at home and a demanding job, Pura Vida was the perfect getaway to reenergize my mind and spirit. I also loved heading into town- such a quant place with good restaurants and fun people. We also zip-lined one day, which was so amazing - Starting at the top of the jungle canopy with the most amazing ocean view, and working our way down to the beach! What initially drew me to SDY was something as simple as a schedule that felt doable around work and life. Little did I know that committing to those 40-minute drives between Elk Grove and Folsom would become one of the most meaningful commitments I would ever make to myself. You enter Yoga Teacher Training wide-eyed, curious, and eager to learn how to teach yoga. But somewhere along the way, you realize you're learning so much more than that. You're learning how to meet yourself. You begin to explore parts of yourself you never knew existed. And through all the challenges life continues to bring, you keep showing up. That is the magic of Spotted Dog Yoga. They don't just teach you how to become a yoga teacher. They create a space where you feel seen, supported, challenged, and held accountable. A place that feels like family. A place that reminds you of your strength, especially in the moments you forget it yourself. Nearly two years later, that same wide-eyed curiosity is still within me. I'm still learning, still growing, and still finding new ways to deepen both my teaching and my personal practice. I've explored different styles, philosophies, and perspectives of yoga. And while that exploration has been beautiful and necessary, somewhere in the process of expanding, I found myself drifting away from the very things that first grounded me. Sometimes, in our eagerness to grow, we forget to return to what made us fall in love in the first place. And somehow, it was the principles of the Baptiste Methodology and the foundation SDY gave me that gently guided me back. Back Home. I'm realizing that growth isn't always about becoming someone new. Sometimes, it's about remembering who you were before the world taught you to question yourself. One of the greatest gifts of this journey is understanding that no matter how far I explore, how much I learn, or how I evolve as a teacher, I will always have a foundation to return to. Spotted Dog Yoga didn't just give me the tools to teach yoga. They gave me the foundation to trust myself, to keep growing, and to remember that the practice begins within me. And for that, I am endlessly grateful.
