Located at the waterfront boardwalk area in central Wellington, this place offers a more upscale dining experience. Prices are a little bit above average, I would say. We had tried to make reservations online, but we were only able to get a 7:30 PM slot, so we decided to just head over there at 6 PM. Surprisingly, the host immediately found us a table, which told me that the online reservations are not necessarily accurate. The restaurant does not have outdoor seating, but the indoor atmosphere is very classy and pleasant, with a lovely decor, white table cloths and comfortable chair. There are partial view of the waterfront. But, unfortunately a large part of the view is obstructed with what looks like some kind of a metal dock. I would have taken a half a star off for that if I could. I didn't want to take a whole star off though, for the food and the service were superior. Our server, a young Canadian gal, working in New Zealand for 2 years was super friendly and very professional. She had a lot of knowledge and explained in detail the various items on the menu and gave us recommendations. We ordered a couple of appetizers. A variety of breads with burned butter.. very unique and flavorful and a delicious goat cheese salad. My husband and son choose the grilled snapper, which later on I wish I would have also taken. Instead, I had the seafood risotto, which was absolutely scrumptious, but I could have done without the carbs overload.... my fault.. lol The food arrived after about 25 minutes, which tells me it was prepared after it was ordered. Presentation was gorgeous, every dish was hot and delicious. The fish was so tender and flavorful and the risotto was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're visiting the area.

I am not going to talk extensively about the food as Glen Taylor changes the menu all the time. I will say, try and try and then try. His understanding of flavours is amazing and beyond my thinking. The service was prompt and professional with waiters ready to help you craft your menu for the evening. But what really makes this place great was the food. Oh my word the food. I was actually pretty hesitant walking in, after all they are known for their steaks and I'm a vegetarian. But delightfully there was a healthy range of vegetarian tapas available. We had the gnocchi (do yourself a favour and get the gnocchi) the grilled beetroot (so fresh and flavourful) the Provolone (ooey gooey smokey decadence) the warmed olives (of course), and the empanadas (vege for me, meat for he). It was arguably too much food, but we fought our way to the end as every morsel was too good not to. The only dish we weren't 100% thrilled with was the vege empanada, which was a little dense and gluggy for me. However my partner loved the meat version! Their wine list is also pretty bomber, with some delightful Spanish, Argentinan, and Chilean drops available. Add a glass of wine and a chocolate fondant for dessert and our bill clocked in at just over $100. A fantastic price considering the quality and amount of food we ordered. We'll definitely be back.
