The service, atmosphere, and quality of food serves as a standard for most restaurants. We ordered our drinks at the bar, and took them to our table for our dinner. Starters were a trio of bacon wrapped scallops ($12.50). This was as expected...this was baked, so the bacon wasn't as cooked as it might have been, and the scallops didn't have any color or texture. This was the weak part of the meal. The specialty of the house, the Gate to Plate lamb ($24.00), was a sliced loin served atop couscous with vergetables. Very well prepared and tasty. Another main was the Angel's Breakfast, six broiled scallops served atop a mixed green salad ($22.00). A side of steamed vegetables, $4.50, and another side salad, $4.50, completed the meal. Again, well presented and tasty. See attached photos. A great selection of beers on tap, and wines by the glass, all around $8. Arriving at 6:40pm, the restaurant was only about halfway filled with a placard at the entrance announcing that this evening's Roast is sliced sirloin. I was hoping for lamb but this will do. I sat by the window with my laptop and used some wifi before and after dinner. My meal arrived after about ten minutes, a good portion with sliced sirloin, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, roasted potatoes and yes, a Yorkshire pudding. A light gravy over all and the only point off is that they did not have any horseradish for the beef. Perfectly cooked, nicely presented and absolutely delicious. My mother had their burger with a side of onion rings, though the burger came with a good amount of large steak fries (chips). Our friend had the lamb chop starter. It came with a lot of bones, so it could easily be a main. It was in miso as well. All was very well prepared and extremely flavorful. Our friend, who lives here, is happy to have a new place to go to.

The main theme seems to be British Raj, the strings of coloured bulbs and the Chinese terracotta warrior statue are out of place. The heaters were very strong and despite it being winter we could sit inside in shirtsleeves very comfortably. It seems that the food is secondary to the bar and the copious amounts of peanut shells on the floor attests to the patrons being more likely to be drinking than eating. The chips were excellent, the tartar sauce was overloaded with garlic. The fish consisted of two thIn pieces of fish about one-quarter think and three inches wide, battered and deep fried to a crisp. I've eaten fish and chips all over the world and this by far the worst. My wife ordered the open face chicken sandwich which she described as okay. Great pub ambience and service. It's too bad the food doesn't come close to meeting expectations.
