About 3 months ago I came to Fisher, I went in with about 6-8 of my roots. I hade not gotten my hair done in over a year. At my consultation, I was personally advised to go to CORA....she did an UNBELIEVABLE job listening to everything I wanted done to my hair, to the first visit, to my end goal, not only Did she listen I had Tons of questions she answered throughly and told me the initial price it would be. (Most stylists don't do that) after my first visit I was almost In tears at the end. I mean my hair isn't going to turn platinum over night she discussed and told me about hair maintenance and coming in every couple weeks to get my hair back to the color blonde I want but it also has to do with me on the other hand, using the correct shampoo, conditioner, treatments, and not using heat everyday. Cora is one of the best in the business. This place is great! It's a little far out if you live in the city but it's easily accessible by train, and well worth it. Everyone who works in the salon is so friendly and it's plenty spacious. They offer you water and coffee when you check in, and even wine while you're getting your hair done. It's affordable unlike places in the city, and you don't lose any quality. I see Brittni P. when I go, and she's wonderful. She's funny and personable and she knows what she's doing. I enjoy spending a few hours in the chair with her and it doesn't get awkward like at some salons. I usually get a blonde balayage, and she is great with color. I've been going to Fisher for years and I'm very happy with my stylist and her ability to accomodate my cut and color needs, however their prices have almost become prohibitive for me and I'm on the verge of looking for a new salon. It is nearly $200 for cut, color and tip although I am usually happy with my hair results. One other issue worthy of mention, which another reviewer has noted, is that the stylists seem overbooked and often frantically jumping from client to client, leaving you sitting and waiting for her to return to your session. My appointments have run over because of this, and most people are fairly pressed for time and shouldn't have to wait for their stylist to have time to finish their cut/color, especially when an appt has been booked months ahead of time. If a client doesn't ask for multiple stylists tending to her hair, she shouldn't have to tip in multiples. It sounds nit-picky, but when you're paying this much money it does detract from the experience when you feel like you're getting scraps of your stylists' time. Overall I would recommend this salon to those who can afford it, and you can expect top notch creativity and quality from the stylists but don't necessarily expect to have her attention from start to finish. read more

I went to the Fisher Experience a few times a few years ago. I got my mom a GC for Mother's Day for a massage and pedi and she loved it. We also went there a few times to get our hair did. I only had one stylist when I was there (I can't remember her name, I think it was Wendy). She was really cool, dropped a lot of knowledge on me regarding what kind of hairstyles I could pull off with my kind of hair (fine, straight) after I had brought in a photo of Ashlee Simpson right after she had her hair dyed black and cut really short and flipped out at the ends with rockin' side bangs (anyone remember old school Ash hair?) Anyways! She told me I didn't have that much texture but got it pretty close. My inner teenybopper was elated. I don't go to Fisher much anymore, it's just not a convenient location for me and the service doesn't blow my mind more than my other two regular hair places (the Coco Aveda salon in Goverment Center and Louis Anthony in Quincy). Oh, also, worst eyebrow wax ever. I might be in the minority here but it was just terrible (too quick, missed hairs, mishaped) - total waste of $. read more

Was there on Saturday for a Facial. I had the April special. The facial itself was fantastic it was more of the environment that was not as nice. The facials are performed downstairs and all I can hear all the high heels of the women above hitting the hardwood floors. You can also hear the talking that was going on above me. Needless to say not really relaxing. My facial was exactly an hour. When I went home I noticed that the April special that I paid for was advertised at 1 1/2 hours. I've been going to the Fisher Experience (formerly Bruce Fisher) on and off for over 10 years. Overall, they offer excellent service and have some really experienced stylists. The downfall is that you empty your wallet for their expertise. The stylist I used to go to back in my high school days now charges $80 for a haircut. I admit that she is good, but I remember the days when you could get a haircut AND highlights for that price (and you still can in some places). Because of my budgetary constraints, I have gotten cuts and colorings from various stylists who charge closer to the $40 range. Yes, I am a stylist hopping ho. :) Some have been good experiences and some not so great. If they do mess up your hair when it comes to coloring, they will try to fix it. A screwed up haircut, on the other hand, is a bit harder to fix. One hairdresser once cut my bangs so short that I looked like Spock from Star Trek when I pulled my hair back. Good thing bangs grow out fast!! Also, if you are a bang girl like me, beware that bang trims are $20! I think that is a bit excessive considering I've gotten free bang trims from other hair salons. This place definitely has the feel and customer service as a Newbury Street salon, but it has Newbury Street prices, too. My recommendation is to go for one of the more experienced stylists if you have the moolah and don't want to take any chances with your hair. If you are a risk taker, you can be a model for one of the newbie stylists on Wednesdays and get a free haircut. Good luck! read more

I've been going to the Fisher Experience for a couple of years now. I love the first class treatment you recieve there. They really make you feel like you're someone special. I also love their ability to color hair. I usually like to get outrageous unnatural colors, and they are one of the few salons I have found that are willing and know how to do this. I have only had one bad experience with them, the color I wanted didn't come out quite as bright as I wanted, but this is not the norm. They are also great at cuts and styling. I have been going to the same stylist, Shawna, for years. I have extremely difficult curly, long, thick hair and at this point I wouldn't consider trusting any other stylist. At times I do feel like I am in the middle of a fashion show during my appointments but the staff and stylists have always been super friendly. On more then one occasion I have had my last minute appointment request accommodated. It may be a little more pricey then other salons but in this case you really do get what you pay for. You aren't able to leave a tip on a credit card, which I forget every time I go, but they do have an ATM on scene. read more

Just wanted to update. I don't do the "trim every 6 wks" thing, but it had been a LONG time since I had anything done. Everyone remembered me and Laura (Benson) was really sweet. I was happy to see familiar faces and get her input on what to do with my hair. I love the head massage during the shampoo and missed it when I didn't have time to go here. I'm also planning on getting another facial in a few weeks when I find some time. Hopefully they run another Valentine's special (hint hint). I saw a sign that they offer the gel shellac manicure now. I need to look into it a little more, but I've always wanted to try it because regular polish usually doesn't make it through the day for me. Also, just an FYI, they are only able to do a tip on debit or check, so if you are handing them a card, they may ask if you want to put a tip on the charge so they can run it through with the total amount. read more

I am really surprised by the poor reviews. I have been going to Fisher Experience for about 3 years and have been very happy there. Scarlett does my hair and I absolutely love her! She knows what I like and what I don't like and caters her suggestions to that. If I ever want layers, I think I will have to beg her because she knows how bad I am at styling them! I love having a stylist who can be honest with me and joke with me at the same time. I am someone who always changes my hair because I get bored. Scarlett got me to this perfect blonde color with highlights and lowlights and I haven't changed it for over a year, which is a very big deal for me. I did get purple extensions once and I will probably get red next month but the main color has stayed the same. My hair is in much better condition since I started going to Fisher a few years ago. I started using the Kerastase products that they have. They are expensive but very worth it if you can afford them. My hair is much lighter now but it seems healthier because of them. If you get the Kerastase salon treatments, make sure to get a card and get it punched. Christina and Suzanne downstairs in the spa area are amazing. They both do awesome facials and nails and Suzzane does wounderfully relaxing massages. If I did not enjoy talking to her so much I would easily fall asleep during them. Christina knows that I want to get everything out during extractions and does what is needed to achieve that, then rewards me with a great facial massage. They have an excellent loyalty program that saves a lot of money if you enjoy getting 2 - 3 spa services a month. They end up being under $50 per service, which is a great price. I took advantage of it for over a year but my schedule changed and I no longer have as much time to pamper myself! The owner and his wife have always been very nice to me which means a lot to me. His wife always smiles and says hello and he is always pleasant. Scarlett's chair is next to his and I really enjoy watching him work. He really is a master at his craft. If I did not love Scarlett so much, I would try him! Ignore the bad reviews and give the place a try. I never trust reviews from people with less than 10 revies anyway. ;-) read more

I love coming here! Most of the times I schedule an hour massage. The SPA is super clean and very relaxing. There is a relaxing waiting area where you can sit and have some tea or snacks prior to your session. Michelle is the best masseuse. She asks where I have tension and adjusts pressure throughout the hour. The one hour massage is a bit pricey but once in awhile I get an email with a discount. I went to Fisher recently and had my hair done. I went to pay my bill for services and 2 products. The person that helped me told me the price for my services and for my products. I paid and got a receipt that was NOT itemized. Days later I receive a call stating that the person who helped me made an error and did not charge me for the 2 products. They told me that I needed to come in and correct the employee's mistake. I told Beth that I did not rec an itemized bill. I told her if I made the error I would pay the bill but if it was not my error that I'm not paying for it. VERY BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!! read more

I just came here the whole time last year for my hair cut. I love the people here and my hair always looks nice after. I have a bang and it grows quickly so they offer to trim my bang for free which is great. Only problem is the price of my hair dresser keeps going up, and it was original high already. A hair cut ranges from around $69 and way up. When I asked, they said because my hair dresser is on demand, that the more people want her, the more expensive they charge. But hello, it is not my fault! just some bucks different is not a big deal, but the thing that they don't tell me in advance annoys me. Anyway, they still have one of the best service. I want to start off by saying the salon and the stylist are all great. But my review is for a balayage hair coloring experience. I searched far and wide for the perfect balayage colorist and I thought I found someone that I loved (based on her social media pictures). It's an expensive technique that generally starts around $200 just about anywhere you go. So once I was situated in the chair (to prepare myself for 3 hours) and the stylist had come back with the color and foil, she proceeded to separate my hair into sections (normal) and then she took the back of her comb and started weaving through my hair (not normal) - I WAS SHOCKED! I had a flashback to 10 years ago when I used to get horrible highlights done. Granted she was very meticulous with the in and out of the hair and comb, the art of balayage is about freehanded painting, NOT weaving strands of hands and then painting. It doesn't give the same gradual effect. I was quite surprised that the stylist talked so much about how the Fisher Salon gets classes and such on the latest hair industry techniques and gadgets but they aren't properly trained for giving a balayage. I was also talking about a digital perm to the stylist and she had to ask me, "what's that?" I would not recommend the salon for balayage coloring - I saw another stylist doing the same old weaving technique too. I've had my hair colored in the past at another salon and I've looked it up online but balayage coloring shouldn't involve the end of a comb - just your brush and freestyle. read more

I just have to write in defense of Shawna after seeing a post by someone who had a not so great experience. Shawna has been cutting my hair for over 10 years, since my previous stylist, John Santini passed away. John was one of Shawna's first mentors and I knew my hair would be in good hands with her. I have wavy to curly hair and am very particular; it's hard to find someone who can cut your hair so it grows out well. Shawna is that person for me. I moved from Quincy to Maine 7 years ago and Shawna is STILL my stylist! Every time I get my hair cut someone always comments on it or compliments the cut and they are really surprised when I tell them they'll have to travel down to MA if they want one. Shawna is not only a great cutter but she also did my hair for my wedding, and for my sister's wedding. Recommend her highly! read more

I used to get my hair cut here for over a year but I won't be back. The salon itself is very nice. The front desk staff can be either really nice or borderline rude. Whatever. I can deal with that. The haircuts in the beginning were great but the last few times I was there I didn't feel like the stylist was listening to me, and I left with shorter hair than I wanted. What sent me over the edge was the lack of attention to me and the lack of calm. The stylists frequently have 2 to 3 other clients going at the same time. It's not relaxing. It's chaotic. The stylist frequently leaves my appointment to check on others. And I think that is what caused the stylist to not really pay attention to what she was doing. For a $90 haircut, I expect better. read more

I used to go to the Fisher Experience for my styles. I have rather long/thick hair and am picky about the style and my first few appointments I was getting wonderful haircuts. Unfortunately, it was more and more difficult to get appointments with the stylist I preferred. And when I would ask about different times/dates, the receptionist was never all that helpful. So I started booking my appointments nearly 2 months in advance. I like to get my hair cut & styled on days that I have events because I love having somebody else blow dry/style my hair. I was informed that my stylist was rather busy one particular day, but because it was just a wash and dry they could squeeze me in. When the day came, I started off with one person washing my hair and then to my stylist to cut it. Half way through the cut, she left to work on somebody else! So a second woman finished my cut! Then somebody came to blow out my hair. Yup... we were up to 4 people at this point. While I was rather annoyed by the experience, my hair did look nice. BUT when I went to pay, I was beyond annoyed at the fact that the receptionist gave me FOUR TIP ENVELOPES! Seriously?!?! I did not book appointments with 4 people. SO, downsides are the level of courtesy from the staff, how over-booked the staff is and most def the price (the prices are closer to Newbury St than Braintree.) The pluses are good styles and great scalp massages when you are getting your hair washed. If you can deal with the annoyances, it's not bad. I just like to go to a salon where I know my stylist will actually finish my cut. read more

Ever since my usual stylist stopped working at my local salon (and then I moved so I'll never see her again!) I have yet to find someone who can intuitively cut my hair as well as do it so well that I can roll out of bed and it still falls naturally and looks great, arg! Obviously needing a new stylist in my new neighborhood, I decided to try Fisher because they seemed, from the looks at least, professional and experienced. The salon itself is very nice and well maintained. I like the design and they certainly put a lot of effort into the look. There are also quite a few stylists working here and it was very busy in the salon area (they also have a spa) so the popularity put me at ease. Sadly, the stylist I was assigned was not very chatty at all, which isn't a big deal but is a bit odd. Don't know if it was her or me. I would think with a brand new client they would assign a specifically noteworthy stylist... One thing that always bugs me about stylists is when I ask for their advice/opinion on something different from my current cut they NEVER seem to have anything to say. I feel that stylists should be able to assess a client and at least have some kind of opinion or suggestion for me to consider. The woman who was cutting my hair was just very non-committal about this so I ended up settling on my usual "go-to plain" cut. It's very simple but the end result just wasn't that great. And after all of the above, the kicker is the price was far more than the services rendered and I will not be returning, even for a trim of my bangs. I know I only saw one stylist out of many, so my decision not to return might be a bit unfair but stylists should be representative of the salon as a whole, and I just don't feel comfortable with the pricing, even with a different person. I've been going to fisher for a year and half and absolutely love Lindsay! She has always done an amazing job on my hair and listens to my needs. I go to see her every 4 weeks on Saturday. However my visit today was shocking not by Lindsay but by the front desk. My husband is a fire fighter and works odd hours so every once in a while I have to bring my daughter in with me. I make sure she's eating snacks and occupied as not to bother anyone. I know it's not ideal but it doesn't happen frequently. She usually sits in my lap the whole time and everyone there seems to adore her. Today was the 4th time she's been there in a year and half. The second time she actually got her hair cut. The first time I brought her I apologized and asked if it was ok and told it was fine. Today, when I was leaving I was told at the front desk very condescendingly by Victoria that I was putting my daughter in danger by bringing her in because there was scissors. I guess I shouldn't bring her to a restaurant because there's knifes there! I was also told it was fishers policy to not allow children. I realize policies and I follow them but shouldn't I have been told this the first time I brought her!? I was frequently asked by stylists where she was when I didn't bring her! If it's company policy wouldn't everyone know about it. I was shocked by the way I was treated. I spent way too much money there to be treated like that... You've lost a client fisher and I can't recommend to anyone. read more

I started going to the Fisher Experience because a hair stylist that I had been to before and love, Kate Hickey, moved there. In general, I have been very pleased. It is pricey, but not much more so than another salon I was going to in the Milton area, and I prefer the Fisher Experience salon much more. The first floor is devoted to hair services, and is quite busy. It's very bright in there, with a giant skylight. Looking at other reviews, I have had other stylists help out Kate in terms of washing my hair, rinsing it out, applying conditioning treatments, doing the head massage during the shampooing process etc., but no one but Kate has ever applied color, cut my hair or blown it dry and styled it. Kate is great if you're a curly haired girl. I am a natural redhead whose "redness/richness" has faded somewhat at 40, and I do a semi-permanent color now. No one has ever gotten me as close to the color I had naturally at 25 than Kate. The salon is very professionally run, and they watch the time closely, which is why I think they have an everybody "pitches in" approach. I've never waited more than 5 minutes beyond the scheduled appointment time. The entire salon is very clean. Many of the staff are model-like types, but I think that's often true in the beauty industry. There are also some quirkier, funkier looking women working there, with some pretty edgy hair cuts and colors that I wish I could pull off. In any case, I've never gotten the sense that anyone is disrespectful or laughing at me, as one reviewer noted, and I am no beauty queen. In particular, I like Jenny at the desk and Laura, a hair stylist. I also love how staff continually ask you through your stay there if you'd like water, or something else to drink. The lower floor is devoted to spa services. I've had pedicures done there, which have all been excellent, by Michelle, Suzanne, and Nicole. For an eyebrow wax, I do agree with one of the previous reviewers that they tend to be very quick, and there's not a lot of emphasis on shaping. That said, I am looking for a fairly natural, but clean, look. I have noticed at time missed hairs, but in fairness to the technicians, my eyebrows and eyelashes are basically invisible without makeup...light blonde, so I am not an easy client in that way. In general, I am very pleased. I wish it was less expensive, but when I walk out the door, I am happy. read more
