Well I have been to a few of these franchised so I was prepared fur some good food. I was helped by a young man who was able to answer all my questions with no problem. I order all types of shrimp and vegetables on a bed of rice and it was very tasty. The owner and other employees didn't really greet you or smile but maybe they were focused on preparing the good food for folks. . (Mind you that you can see the cooks and they can see you ) I am not sure if they even talk to each other lol. My only concern was that the owner had to help his employee with register and then went back into the kitchen area. He didn't touch the food with his hands just moved the frying basket around. Not too long after that he washed his hands. Their was about 2 people who wore gloves and the others no gloves. Happen to be in Compton paying a bill and I stumbled on Fishbone in Compton across the street from City Hall, so this review is only in regards to this location, I was starving and didn't want to cook, but I wanted something hearty So after I peruse the menu, I order up fried cat shrimp and fried with a side of red beans and rice and hush puppies, so I complete my order and the nice young man (brother) taking my order Who is very polite asked if I like to try some of their gumbo so I said sure why not so he gave me a sample and there was an explosion in my mouth the undo sausage and the gumbo was high-quality. It seemed to be chicken based not pork and the rue was excellent not bad for it not being homemade. I would definitely ordered it again. So I get my order I go home. I start eating it and everything was outstanding. The catfish was fried to perfection. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. it was succulent and not rubbery, and I also ordered a side of shrimp everything was portion nicely. The food really knocked my socks off, the red beans and rice were real red beans and rice not from a package. You could actually see the whole freaking bean lol it was no work. It wasn't no Popeyes stuff and the hush puppies were outstanding. They were cooked perfection. They were nice and crunchy on the outside and Barry moist on the inside as a hush puppy should be, so overall I definitely give them a 4 1/2 to 5 star rating. The two stars are for the great service and the fried shrimp was ok. We also ordered some red snapper , greens, and red beans and rice. I just left here about 45 minutes ago. I've been generally pleased with them over the three months or, so I've been patronizing them before today. I was really hungry, so I got a pound of catfish instead of the entre portion I normally get. Much to my dismay, when I got home it was Filet of Sole and not Catfish, so I enjoyed some excellent greens & potato salad with 17.00 worth of skin and corn meal. The total bill was 26.52. I read a previous review where someone complained about soggy fish. I think because she told them well done.. Honestly, I am semi allergic to shrimp and I get an allergic allergic reaction whenever I eat that isn't fresh. This place is bomb. I haven't had gumbo like this since I last traveled to New Orleans. Ingredients are fresh which is a must. The flavor of the celery, onions and green pepper mixed in with the seafood, sausages and chicken make this dish super delish. You can tell it's slow cooked giving it that rich flavor. The Fish not fully cooked, i just received an order today and same problem plus my Cajun Fish has NO seasoning whatsoever. why am i paying extra for Cajun?! Last time the macaroni salad wasn't made properly... but i figured" it's just a side dish, different cooks different taste" but the F i s h should a l w a y s be on point! Located in a huge parking lot next to a dentist office and chines food place, there is tons of parking available. I have never visited any Fishbone before so I was curious to see what it's like. It's similar to most of the fish markets around however they have more sides in my opinion. The restaurant looked clean and every one working there were friendly and inviting. My husband and I both got the 10 piece shrimp combo his with fries and mine with potato salad. The potato salad was a pretty big portion I could only eat half. Was craving seafood tonight so stumbled upon this spot on GrubHub. Everything was spectacular and came in a timely manner. Here's what I ordered: Gumbo 5/5: The stock was perfection, not too salty with the right amount of kick. The shrimp was nice, plump and juicy. Very high quality shrimp. The sausage and chicken was also cooked very nicely. Probably one of the best Gumbo's I've ever tried. Also came with saltine crackers and rice, can't wait to eat this again!
