    Affogato

We came here for our anniversary dinner and had a very enjoyable meal. Fishbone offers a Mediterranean menu with bold vibrant flavours. We started the meal with peach with baratta salad which was so refreshing. Next we got the grilled octopus which was nicely charred but I have to say the amount of octopus is pretty small for a dish that's almost $30. When I saw paella on the menu, I knew I had to get it. It was topped with seafood including 2 giant prawns, clams, mussels and sausages. The rice was cooked perfectly with bold flavours. However I felt that the seafood was slightly undercooked. We told our server and he asked the kitchen to cook us new shrimps right away. I would def recommend sharing this entree as the portion is enough for 2. We finished our meal with an affogato, which is no longer on the menu but our waiter kindly let us order. We loved the decor and vibe at this restaurant! Check out Jess.feed.me on IG for more food stories !

It is Saturday and we arrived at 5pm, door open time in the afternoon. But we were told it was fully booked except patio seating. It was pretty hot outside like 30+ degree. We drove 30 mins to come here, so did't have other choices. The service is top notch, our waiter is very friendly and we had some small talks. The music inside the store gives a happy and vibrant feel. Love the atmosphere. We ordered pull and tear bread with truffle butter $12 , it is actually my favorite dish of the day. The bread was made to order, very hot and fresh, so yummy to go with truffle butter. We also ordered the Flaming Pig $18, it was interesting fish with flaming fire on sausage, the sweet and sour apple has a little bit spicy kick. The last was the seafood paella, which we came here for tonight. The seafood is very fresh and seasoned well, but the rice is so wet and bland, not crust, definitely not our favorite.

The ambiance is definitely good! Like usual, I always have an issue with the limited selection of entrees. I wish there was more choice on the menu. This time we were surprised by the food-unfortunately the surprise was not a pleasant one. In fact, half of our party did not enjoy their entrees which was a disappointment. The good: all of our appetizer's were good with special mention to the brussel sprouts. Whole fish and octopus were good. The bad: the Arroz a Valenciana was not good at all-the chef went totally crazy with the spice! It was so spicy hot we could not eat it-dripping on sweat. Three of us took a gamble and ordered steak (because of limited menu choices) - the steak was burnt on the outside on all three of them and they were all overcooked! Medium rare were medium well and well done! Not good. Service for the most part was decent. We were not pleased not was done when we mentioned the issue. I guess he can brush it off since he will get the party 20% tip no matter what. Very disappointing meal over all. We did not even want to hang around for desserts! I originally had the review as three stars (round up from 2.5) but my party unanimously asked me to round down to 2.

Beautiful but small venue. Amazing service. Food was all delicious. We especially liked the deep fried eggplant with harissa mayo sauce. It was cripsy. The bread app was just ok. The spread tasted like philidepha salmon cream cheese, so I found this dish a bit exp and nothing special. The paella had lots of protein and very flavourful The shrimp and scallop pasta was everyone's favourite. Sauce was very creamy and luxurious. Again, very generous amount of protein too. Unless you are a light eater or coming here to sample a snack, I would reccomend at least 1 entree and 1 app per person. I also got the gobble gobble cocktail. It is sweet and not too strong alcohol, which was perfect for people who do not like the taste of alcohol like myself. Overall it's a fantastic dinner place for special occasions

Let's start with some very positive notes. The staff is fantastic! Everyone we talked to was friendly and helpful. Service was attentive and well above average. The decor is modern, clean lines and attractively lit, it's a very nice space. The wine list was OK and featured a few tasty Portuguese selections most of which were under $100. The food was all nicely seasoned and appropriate for the genre. Sigh, more on the food..: The starter Brussel sprouts were by far the best item we sampled. The prep on the octopus was great but unfortunately tasted fishy, not what I'm looking for in that dish. The mussels and clams were worse, again anther good prep but fishy. Finally I ordered the pasta with shrimp and "scallops" that was decent although the shrimp was under cooked and the scallops were eraser sized tasteless rubber pellets. I think the kitchen has some good recipes but the quality of the ingredients and cooking technique is under par. Obviously not for me.

Truly amazing place!! Cannot wait to come back again soon. The appetizers are all so good sounding. Of course I went for the Brussels and mussels. Cooked perfectly and really addictive. We shared a paella and I'm so so so glad we found this place. I've yet to have found a paella I enjoyed. We cleared this plate in no time and every bite was amazing! Service was also fantastic. They shared their recommendations and were just so nice and attentive. We felt very welcomed and comfortable. Weird comment but I also really love the soap in their bathroom. They are supporting a local/handmade brand I think and it's just so amazing to see. Can't wait to be back!

Just amazing! Very surprising. I think the type of food here is better than the Lake location. I got the Cornish hen and I was surprised by how good it was! The portion is generous enough.. Service is alright, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Comfortable chairs!

    Calamari strips

Food: Everything is just like amazing. The yellow tail tuna with the squid ink is just the perfect combination with a little bit of salt it just taste perfect and the calamari strips Is just the best ones I ever have. Also the presentation is amazing, like it makes you feel like you're in a Michelin starred restaurant. Ambiance: I love the environment and the theme of it. It feels like you're eating near a beach and it also gives a Greek/Mediterranean feel to it. Service: the staff are just amazing, the food arrived quick, they were extremely helpful and polite. Overall: if you looking for an upscale restaurant for a date or for business this is the right place.

Peppers were fantastic (I was afraid to ask for HP for the steak)

We came for as a small group from work for lunch at Fishbone. This is a very eloquent, clean space with lovely decor and bristling atmosphere. As other reviews touch upon, fro. The host to the waitstaff, everyone was pleasant and attentive. If you sip your water, you will have a torso fill your line of sight in order for the glass to he filled. Perhaps a taller glass in order to reduce that frequency. But I get it. So be prepared to check the pricing or face bewilderment. Lunch portion options are limited, so you are in the $22 to $29 for a main. So I opted for the flank steak, which was a sizable portion. It was served medium with fingerling sweet potatoes and a nice flavorful sauce. Compared with the same price for a similar steak at the keg, the value seemed a bit off. The other guest enjoyed there linguini and shrimp dish, which was served in a cream based sauce. So keep in mind you do not get complementary bread, however you have dutiful servers who keep the water flowing in short glasses. The draft beer was lovely, with a Muskoka IPA for about $9.50. The desert of chocolate mouse looked lovely, and the coffee was terrific. So overall I would estimate 30% higher in price than comparatives for the area, quality of food quite good, but really a place for a once in a purim treat. Come for dinner. -Zuk

    Portuguese Paella
    Gino B.

This was my first time coming to this place. Very clean, cool set up with excellent and amiable service from entry to departure. I ordered the Portuguese paella based on a recommendation and was told the portion was very big. As a result I did not order an appetizer. But, we did order a nice bottle of red Portuguese wine which paired very well. The paella was simply delicious. It had a large amount of mussels, shrimp, octopus, chorizo, lobster bisque and peas. All of which was mingled with rice that was seasoned with saffron and smoked paprika. Amazing dish! It was so plentiful that dessert was not possible. All in all, a great dining event and an enjoyable first but not last visit.

    Seafood Paella takeout. Yummy!
    Min K.

Tried takeout twice now. I only write a review if I've tried more items at a location or unless I know the quality is consistent. Food is fresh, good flavors and many people in facebook group have also said good things about this place. Definitely give this a try if you're looking for some fine dining experience at home, especially when many of these types of restaurants only open in the evenings, they are open during the day.

We came on a very cold winter day and the upper floor (main dining area) was noticably warmer. We were seated right away without a reservation. Our server was very upbeat, friendly, and accommodating to some of our customization requests (e.g. certain salad ingredients and dressing on the side, substitute shrimps with extra scallops, etc.). Food came out relatively quick (there were only 1-2 other occupied tables when we were there). Service was excellent. The music playing in the background was a combination of hip-hop, R&B, and jazz. The dining room had a casual and relaxed ambiance, with a somewhat dark lighting and fake candle on every table. We got the Seafood Platter for 2, but there was enough food for 4-5 people. It came with 2 big pieces of salmon, a whole "market fish catch of the day" (not sure what fish it was, but it tasted like swordfish and was very tasty), 2 lobster tails, crab legs, baby octopus, squid / calamari, scallops, shrimps (which we opted to change for extra scallops), and some microgreens on top for garnish. We could choose to have the seafood grilled, fried, or a mix of both - we chose the grilled option. All of the seafood came on a long wooden board, with lots of butter at the bottom (I wish they didn't put any / so much butter!). The Seafood Platter came with a side of grilled vegetables (rapini, asparagus, carrot) and baby potatoes. We added on an extra plate of the grilled vegetables and potatoes, as well as Arugula Salad. The variety of the seafood in the Seafood Platter was excellent. They were very generous with portion size. Everything was really tasty and I loved the charred grill mark, especially on the scallops. They pre-cracked the crab legs and lobster tails, making it easier to eat. The crab and baby octopus came as a surprise (to our delight!), because the menu didn't say that the platter would come with those 2 types of seafood. The "market fish catch of the day" came as a whole fish and de-boned (just the filet and skin). I liked this more than the salmon, which was cooked well done. This restaurant lives up to its name - excellent place for seafood.

We went for their mothers day brunch,…read moreand we thought that we could order from the main menu but it was not available (ok fine...) so we were forced to order their $55 prix fixe menu that was totally not worth it for the most completely underwhelming meal ive ever had. I started with the yogurt parfait, it was like 5 small scoops of warm yogurt with a sprinkle of granola and maybe 3/4 of a strawberry with 4 blueberries. After getting that I knew the steak and eggs I ordered was not going to be great. As expected, the steak was for sure sous vide before slapping it on the grill given that it was mushy in texture and when I asked the waitress before ordering if she could cook mine more rare she told me that the chefs make all the steaks at medium (that shouldve been a red flag that she didnt ask how she would like my steak cooked). It came with unseasoned home fries and 2 pieces of the driest toast with no butter? We asked our waitress for some condiments and butter and she completely forgot and we had to ask her a few times before she came back with just butter (we scoured the restaurant for some ketchup). The sunny side eggs that came with it was mediocre, but how can you mess up eggs, right? The dessert I ordered the creme brulee which was the best part of the meal (which isnt saying much). My brother also ordered the creme brulee but his tasted completely different... this already tells me how inconsistent the kitchen and staff are. The whole meal costed us $455 and this included the autograt of 20%. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This was for 6 mothers day brunch meals and a kids pasta. The service was non existent and the food was absolute trash. My 9 year old niece couldve made a better meal with her eyes closed. With $455 we couldve had a lobster dinner for a family of 6. There really is no difference of getting robbed for real and eating at this place, you both lose money and get absolutely nothing out of it.

On a Wednesday evening just past 8:00pm, we arrived at the doors of the restaurant and was greeted by I presume the owner of the business who mumbled something along the lines of them getting ready to close shop. And if we are dining in we should make it a quick one. This is despite the fact, that they were scheduled to close at 9:30, both according to their sign and Google. Anyways, we were seated by the owner and eventually served by the server. To be objective the server was courteous and generally competent, however, he did fail to top up our waters throughout the duration of the meal. Food wise it was above average. The Caesar salad was quite different from most restaurants where there's no croutons, no bacon and no shaved cheese. But I thought it was enjoyable and I like the fact that the salad had traces of anchovy taste. The Margherita pizza was alright. The tomato sauce was refreshing and the cheese tasted right. The flour had a a pretty good floury taste, but the body of the pizza could be a bit more well done. My favourite part of the meal was the Bucatini All'Amatriciana pasta. It's an interesting pasta texture that I've never experience before; clearly homemade. The guanciale gave the pasta a nice umami taste. However, the above average food was not enough to overcome the unwelcoming feeling that hung over us. One thing I forgot to mention is before the meal, I had a couple pieces of garbages from my kids that I wanted to dispose of. The washroom had no garbage bin and on the way out they had a box that resembled garbage bins in a fast food restaurant. I mistakened it for a garbage bin and after I disposed of the garbage, I was told by the same owner that it was not a garbage can. Although I wouldn't say he was totally rude, the statement was blunt and the facial expression and body language pretty much gave it away. One thing that was positive about the experience was at least their transparency toward their non-participation in the tax break government initiative. They had a sign posted right on their main entrance. Mi Casa, Sous casa... my AXX... no wait that's Spanish. Whatever... you know how I feel about Casa Carbone.

Last Saturday, my thought was to have lunch at a Chinese eatery, as there are quite a number of them. It was a rare move for me to take highway 404 northbound. I normally backroad it. I saw a sign for Chuck's Roadhouse just before I was about to exit. There's a Chuck's in Aurora? I love Chuck's. I must go. I had no problem finding it when I drove north along Bayview Avenue. It's in a plaza with a Starbucks that I frequented often a good decade ago. It occurred to me that this Chuck's is where Shoeless Joe's was. My guess is that Shoeless Joe's moved to where Grandma Loves You is. I had no problem finding a parking spot fairly close to this restaurant. I pulled into a vacant spot and walked in. There are two sets of doors to go through. You go through the first set and hang a left. You go through the second set of doors and you see the signature Harley. I took photos of it. A female staffer welcomed me. I had to repeat myself, saying that I was here to dine in. She asked if the booth ahead of me was good. It was. I got a nice view of the Oilers-Flyers hockey matinee game. My server was Christina. She was wonderful. She was super attentive during my entire stay. I got a Diet Coke with a lime wedge. She made sure that I got refills. My go-to meal at Chuck's is the seven-ounce sirloin steak and lobster tail. It's a steal for $26. I substituted fries for mashed potatoes with gravy. I also got a side order of sauteed mushrooms because I was hungry and craved mushrooms. When it's Wednesday, I tend to do ribs at Chuck's. The deals are decent and, frankly, insane. It didn't take long for my meal to arrive. I was ready to tear it up. I got my steak medium. I typically do medium well, but I find that it gets overcooked when I do. Medium is a good medium! My steak was delicious. It was perfectly seasoned. I didn't need Chuck's steak sauce with it, but I have never had it before. I liked it. The lobster tail was plump and large. I loved dunking morsels of it into my clarified butter. Heck, I love clarified butter. Practically my entire meal went into it! I love mashed potatoes with gravy. It's such a comforting side. The gravy was excellent. The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery. In the past, this meal featured corn on the cob. I like that you get corn kernels instead. They are easier to eat and, yes, taste better with clarified butter. The skillet of mushrooms were so good. They were sauteed to perfection and flavourful. I'd get them again. I had eyed the butter toffee bread pudding when I had first arrived. The problem? I was stuffed that I couldn't fit it in. Christina suggested that I could get it to go. Yes! She did say that it came with ice cream and it would likely melt. I had an insulated bag in my car, so it wouldn't melt as fast. I said yes to dessert. She had it immediately made as I paid the bill at the table. I tipped and tapped. Easy peasy! She came back with two containers. One had my butter toffee bread pudding. The other had vanilla ice cream with candied pecans in it. Yum! I let her know that she was great. It looked like I had made her day. I left my dessert on the table as I headed to the washroom before I left. There are no doors to get into the men's and women's washrooms. There were a few stalls in the women's washroom. The stall that I used was clean. I liked the wintery decorations by the sink. When I got home, I put the ice cream in the freezer. I had dessert in the evening while watching a hockey game. The butter toffee bread pudding was so good. It was comforting, moist, and not terribly sweet. The vanilla ice cream was excellent. The candied pecans made this ice cream extra special. The texture of the pecans was great with the smooth, cold ice cream. I had a great late lunch here. Service was stellar. I'd return in a heartbeat when I'm in the area. (10)
