Cory was our captain and he was GREAT! Super reasonably priced - 11am until 4pm and it was $161 for the both of us to fish. It's $75 each to fish and $5 each for pole rental/bait. You can also bring your own poles/bait and they won't charge you the nominal $5. You need to do this while in Key West! After we caught a mutton snapper the captain filleted the fish and gave it to us (we brought our own disposable cooler) and he recommended to bring it to Kaya Island Restaurant to eat for dinner. We did this and OMG what a treat!! Look up Kaya Island to see my review there. This was the highlight of our trip!

We wanted our own boat and captain and not the annoying aspect of sharing a boat with strangers and dealing with small talk. We specifically listed what we wanted to do: kayak, paddleboard, fish. That was precisely on our order form. We also specifically noted that snorkeling was not an option. I had a procedure on my ear and could not submerge my ear in water. We book, we pay. We call the next day to confirm because we hadn't received any notification by phone or email. Leave a message and the owner calls at 9 pm the night before our scheduled excursion the next morning. He tells us that there was a mixup online and they don't have enough boats/captains. Say what? We were pissed. It was our last day and it was too late to schedule a new excursion. My friend let him know that this was riduculous. about 30 minutes later he calls back and lets us know that it's all worked out, everything is fine, see you tomorrow morning. We show up the next morning and it was a shit show. Our captain comes in, Scruffy, and greets us. Takes us out to the dock and shows us the boat we are going to be on and that we just have to wait for the other employee to come back with the bait. We sit. Then sit some more. Next thing you know, we are introduced to a family and find out that we are all sharing a boat. WTF. We paid money for the TWO of us for a half day excurision and to have our own boat. It wasn't cheap. At all. We explained that this is wrong. We are then told that they had a large party make an appt so the other boat was reserved for them. Basically, screw you. We are making tons more money with this large party. The boat for 5 guests and the captain was a joke. 2 people could sit up front on this little boat , the other 3 sat on Yeti coolers. Scruffy explains our plan for the day: snorkeling and swimming. We chime in that snorkeling/swimming is not an option and not what we paid for and where are the kayaks and paddleboards? The FAMILY paid for an all day excursion and that's what they requested. Hence, more people and all day = more money. Both of us at that point are pissed. Scruffy says he will squeeze on paddleboards, but kayaks are going to fit. YOu know, because we were on a boat that wasn't big enough for the people on it. Then proceeds the issue regarding our half day excursion vs the family's all day excursion. Scruffy starts trying to get us to upgrade to an all day excursion so that he doesn't have to cut into the family's all day tour. We weren't about to pay more money for the shit show that was taking place and tell him too bad, we aren't doing an all day because I wasn't about to sit my ass on a boat while everyone swam and snorkeled. That wasn't what we paid for. We get on the tiny ass rinky dink boat and head out. We go to a little island. Scruff drops us off, gets the fishing gear out and takes us around a bend of the island. He drops us off in a little cove, asks if we know how to fish and then says he will be back in a few hours because he is taking the family snorkeling by a boat wreck. WTF? So the two of us are in awe. We say we need our bags, our lunch, some WATER while we are left Gilligan's Island style in some random cove. He leaves us. We start fishing. Something starts biting us. Biting us ALL.OVER. The little cove was infested with sand fleas. Both of us were covered with sand flea bites. If you know sand flea bites, you know how god awful itchy they are. We immediately got the hell out of there and went to the main part of the island/sand bar is where other charter operations were. We then proceeded to hang out waist deep in the water because I can't get my damn ear wet. About an hour/hour and half later, the boat rolls up. We tell Kermit that we couldn't fish because of the sand flea infestation. We want to paddleboard since we are stuck on this island. We paddleboard, are hanging out... and an hour later Scruffy yells to us that it's time to go because our time is up, BUT we can add another hour for an extra $100 a person. Uh, hell to the no. We paddle in. Get on the boat. The obnoxious father proceeds to push us towards staying. Obviously they didn't want to waste an hour of their time paid for the charter while schlepping is back to the dock. At this point we are furious. We did nothing but paddleboard for an hour and get bit by sand fleas and sit in water. That's it. It cost us $250 a person for that crap. Furious. we get dropped off, get in the car and my friend who booked wrote the owner Rob (? I think is his name) and told him there were major issues and to call us. Nothing that day. We call, we leave messages. Nothing. We call again. We FINALLY get an email from him. long story short, this was an expensive and unprofessional piece of garbage charter. STAY AWAY.

He then led the way back to the boat. It's definitely worth it and you'll be in good hands!! The views you get is worth it, I love the mango trees personally. Not 5 stars because this is an old boat and it does lack some conveniences, not because of the fishing, Capt. or mates. 1. If you're on a deep drop trip, you're fishing with electrics and heavy lead weights. Not everyone listens to the Capt./Mates which results in tangles. If you are on the Tortugas trip, it's going to be crowded. 2. These trips are long. You need to come prepared for the long hours. You are paying for rail time... use it to your advantage. Pack as per the instructions on the YankeeC website. 3. Prepare rigs as per the instructions on the YankeeC website. Do not try to re-invent the wheel. They know what works and what doesn't to catch fish. That goes with bait too. I have found that 5 lb boxes of whole medium squids and 15-24 Goggle Eye's works best. You can substitute the Goggle's if unavailable. 4. This is not a luxury cruise. No food service, bunks are just that, bunks. The shower is "rustic" (minimal), but it does the trick. If you remember that you're there to catch fish you will not be disappointed. 5. The mates are your best friends on the trip. Listen to your mates! Honestly, they know more about what works than you do. 6. One downside is that you have to bring your own food. The upside is that your trip cost is far less than other boats. I bring 1 cooler with food and 1 with drinks and ice. Coffee & water are available on board. 7. Capt Greg (and Capt. Marco) will do their best to try and put you on fish. Sometimes it's your time to catch, and sometimes it's your neighbor's, but you will catch fish. 8. I don't understand all of the negative comments about Capt. Greg being rude/nasty. He is not there to be your friend. He is there to safely get you to the fishing grounds, put you on fish, provide you with assistance to catch fish, and get you home all of which he does very well. If you take the time to talk with him, you will find him to be a very nice person who takes his job/responsibility very seriously and wants you to return to the dock with a full cooler. Here's the bottom line: you are going on a serious fishing trip, further offshore than most will ever go in their lives, to catch fish with some soon to be close personal friends with the same objective. If you're too independent (or stubborn) to follow the Mates or Capt's recommendations, don't book on the YankeeC. If you want a luxury cruise, don't book. If you want to catch fish... book with confidence. Tight lines!

We met Captain Chuck while walking down Duval Street, and he handed us a coupon. $69 per person…read moreseemed too good to be true, but he insisted that that was the deal for a 4-hour snorkel/fishing trip. We decided to check it out. We showed up to the slip at the designated time and found the right boat. Upon boarding the boat my first that was "damn...this boat is filthy". My wife and I just look at each other and decide to roll with it since we were already aboard. Chuck took us about 7 miles out into the gulf to an artificial reef for some snorkeling. My equipment was OK but my wife got a dud life-jacket, although he had a spare for her to use. All in all the snorkeling was pretty good. Then after about 45 mins of that we wanted to fish a little bit. The fishing equipment was sub-par but it was fine. He cut up some squid for bait and handed us poles, and that was about all of the instruction that we got. No problem...we figured it all out. My complaint is this...we sat for over an hour and the fish were not biting. Rather than take us to a different spot Chuck insisted that we be patient. During this hour I'm not sure where he was or what he was doing but he wasn't real involved in the fishing. We caught a couple of small fish but it certainly wasn't what I was hoping for in a charter fishing boat in Key West. He did offer to let us use his spear-guns if we wanted to jump in the water and take some shots. By that time we were frustrated and tired so we declined. At the end of the day the old adage is true..."You get what you pay for". Next time I'll spend more money and do it right. Chuck is a nice enough guy and I wish him all of the best, but this was not the experience that we were looking for.

Just be sure if you use my bathroom you put your tissue in my bucket. Sometimes the jellyfish will be out in the pack but that wont stop Chuck from having you jump in to be attacked. To Captain Chuck, Jellyfish aren't so mean. He loves the reef so much, he wont even wear sunscreen. He will tell you about all his friends that own a bar, but don't worry that's just a grape cigar! Sure, the boat may get tangled in rope; but with chuck on the case you needn't lose hope. Goggles, flippers, spear guns galore, its captain chucks poetry that will leave you wanting more. Off to your left you'll see something interesting, he lied. But that was nothing compared to the necrophilia story about the chick who died. Chuck is expeditious, he moves at a brisk pace. But when he handles the speargun, best to mind your face. Feed the tarpon with your teeth, and you'll get a hat to keep you cool from the heat. After the boat, Chuck could even take you up in his plane. But until he gets his license, you'd probably be insane! We left with so many memorable stories to make us laugh! They are so ridiculous, friends will think you're lying out your a$$! Thanks for the good times Captain Chuck, see you next year!

I went snorkeling in the Bahamas several days before and where Mike brought us out was significantly better than anything I saw in the Bahamas. We saw a lot of different fish including Barracuda, Yellow Tail, Rainbow Fish, Surgeon Fish, etc. Mike was very helpful in where we should go but also allowed for me and my girlfriend to explore. We had a small lunch afterwards on a small island that was quaint but very fun and relaxing. He also NEVER rushed us or said we needed to get going. However, that is only the half of it. I seemed to have lost my rental car keys during the charter (100% my own fault) and Mike came back after he dropped us off and helped me look. unfortunately, the keys were as good as gone. Still, Mike let us stay in his car while I tried to get a lock.smith to get a new key. Over the next hour, Mike stayed with us, brought us to his house, a convenience store to get some drinks, and waited with us for 40 minutes till the lock smith arrived. On top of that, he waited with us the entire time the locksmith was at worked for another 30+ minutes. During the time, I had some very good conversations with Mike. Mike is one of the most genuine people I ever met and words couldn't express how much better he made my gf and my day. I HIGHLY recommend Lower Keys Adventure. Also, he had a very cute and friendly dog named Lizzy!
