    We caught plenty!
    Rebecca K.

We did a private offshore charter for five people with Captain Derek. He knew his fishing spots and taught us exactly how to get each type of fish. We ended up with at least a dozen legal fish including yellowtail snapper, three grouper and a barracuda. We threw back many more snapper as well as a couple sharks and those pesky blue runners. Quite an experience! We loved it.

When in Key West, do as Floridians do: go fishing! On a trip to Miami with the bf, we decided to drive on down to Key West. While we really wanted to go deep sea fishing, we were a little hesitant because rates on some websites were around $400/person. Luckily, our hotel works exclusively with a company that offers a bunch of activities: snorkeling, and of course, fishing trips with Fish Key West! We were able to get two spots on a split, which fits four people, for $350 for the two of us. To be honest, I don't know the difference between the different types of fishing, so ours was most likely not the same as the ones we looked up. For the record, we did light tackle reef fishing. Fish Key West has 1/2 day, 3/4 day and full day options. We did morning fishing, which was 8 am-12 pm, with check in at 7:45 am. The boats are at the Key West City Marina and there is plenty of parking. Our captain, Nick, has been fishing for 12 years and was amiable and very knowledgable. Fish Key West provides all the fishing licenses, rods, bait, tackle. Since we were newbies, our captain taught us everything and answered any questions we had. When we finally got out to our fishing spot, we tossed a block of chum and waited for fish to gather around us. We caught a bunch of yellowtail snappers, bonito, as well as a few game fish, but no luck with the deep sea bottom fishing rods. When our trip was over, we went back to the marina where the captain filleted the fish for us to take home. We didn't have time, but there are restaurants right next to the marina that can cook up the fish for you too! All in all, an amazing fishing experience! FYI: It's customary to tip the captain! 15-20 percent recommended. Also, if you pay with credit card, there's an additional $10 charge.

Highlight of our bachelor party weekend! Came down with 5 buddies and booked Captain John on the charters 36' SeeVee "Coolcast". We brought in a few fish including a Blackfin and a nice Bull Mahi. Captain John was very personable and he cares. Many charters now a days it seems like they just want to get through the 4 hours with you and move on. John clearly wanted to get us on the fish, which he did! Will definitely book again.

On the way out, we stopped at his bait trap to pick up live fish to use as bait to complement the frozen shrimp he already had on board.

** Amazing Day with Salty Goat Deep Sea Fishing Charter**…read more On Sunday, March 1, our group had the absolute best experience with **Salty Goat Deep Sea Fishing Charter**. There were six people in our party plus two additional guests, and from start to finish the trip was incredible. Our captain, Ashley, and first mate, Paul, were fantastic. The entire five-hour trip was fun, relaxing, and full of great moments. On the way out to our private fishing spot--where there were *plenty* of fish--we saw so much wildlife including turtles, dolphins, jellyfish, and pelicans. It was an amazing way to start the trip. Once we reached the fishing spot, Ashley and Paul were incredibly helpful and patient, guiding us through the process and sharing their knowledge about the different fish we caught. Thanks to them, we ended up with a cooler full of fish! They were also very patient with me as I kept getting my line tangled and "making a nest" with my reel--LOL. The whole atmosphere on the boat was perfect. We had great music playing, lots of laughs, and really fun conversations. Ashley and Paul are clearly experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoy what they do, which made the trip even better. One of the most memorable moments came on the way back when we noticed a young pelican struggling in the water. Ashley and Paul carefully rescued it, brought it onto the boat, and contacted Fish and Wildlife so the bird could be picked up safely when we returned to the dock. It was amazing to see how much they care about the wildlife around them. To top off an already incredible day, when we got back to the dock Ashley and Paul cleaned and filleted all of our fish and packaged it up for us. We brought it to a local restaurant that prepared one of the best meals we've ever had. This charter is the **real deal**--a knowledgeable, fun, and laid-back crew who clearly love the ocean and sharing the experience with others. We had such a great time and will *definitely be back to fish with Ashley again*. Highly recommend!

I already was happy when…read moreBilly contacted me before we left regarding a cold front coming in and it would be advantageous to change our first scheduled day since conditions would be favorable. I'm so glad we did! The boat was equipped with everything we needed - had a bathroom, mini fridge for your lunch, they provided a cooler with plenty of water for the day which was very nice. We had fun catching a variety of fish, including mahi mahi, Bonita, one little tuna and the biggie: a white marlin, which was an unexpected surprise for us all and the highlight of our outing. Jesse worked tirelessly the entire time and it was an overall fantastic day. Once we returned back to the dock, he filleted our mahi for us and we took it over to Kaya Island eats per his recommendation which was the perfect end to a fun, tiring but successful day on the water. If you want a great day with nice, knowledgeable folks who will work hard to make your day memorable, I highly recommend booking with Linda D. UPDATE: Went out again on Wednesday and had an equally fantastic time w/captain Billy & Jesse. We caught several mackerel, king fish (including one very large one) and a few barracuda - the weather was beautiful and it was fun to catch such a different variety of fish over our couple of outings - our dinner was again delicious :) We will for sure be back!

We were on the water for about 1/2 day and plenty long enough to get some sun and catch enough to have a mess of fish for dinner later. We fished and moved to at least 4 spots. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen. We also packed a small cooler with drinks and snacks. Don't forget the hand sanitizer -- you'll be glad you did after handling bait and (hopefully) any fish you catch! When we returned to the dock, the crew prepped and filleted our catch for a nominal fee. Tips are appreciated and should definitely be considered a standard practice by patrons and not just a courtesy. Well earned after the hard work of a day on the water. The boat charter can accommodate about 40 passengers; however, on the day we went, we were at about 2/3 capacity. Customers were a wide skill range from rookies to regulars. We took our fresh prepped fish home and sautéd it later for an impromptu house party for 7 diners. Great experience to be able to eat something we'd caught earlier that day!
