Great trip on a split charter. Shared the rods all day in a fair rotation and everyone caught lots of fish. Trolling action was fun watching the kits and rods bending for the big catch! We had a wonderful time with Captain Conch Charters... i can't remember the name of our captain (we had an older gentleman with a mustache) and his deckhand was Roscoe. They did a tremendous job. They both worked nonstop to get our group fish. We ended up with 8 edible fish for our group of 6 (split charter). After reaching shore and speaking to others who had gone fishing with other charters we quickly realized we got more fish than anyone - a few people said they caught nothing! My girlfriend's 13 year old son was on his very first fishing trip and he had the best time. He can't wait to go again. Roscoe was very helpful with him and his mom (both first time fishing). If you have kids or are novice I recommend going with these guys. The boat was clean and comfortable... plenty of room. Very family friendly atmosphere on the boat. Husband & I did a 6hour Split day with Roscoe and Capt Bob. Great time! Caught several yellowtail snapper & a couple mackerel-- used for bait and caught a shark. Outstanding fishing charter. The crew of the Conchenstein Capt. Craig and 1st mate Ross were welcoming and helpful for first timers. The cleaning and fileting of the catch is a nice service. Great value for price paid. Bring Cash for a tip for the first mate they deserve it at least 20% if not more of the charter cost. Don't be. Cheap crew worked hard to find the catch and they pulled it off. A 4 hour trip is actually 6 hour, they don't count travel time as part of the time. Wow. Nice touch. We did a deep sea fishing trip and the party boat 'Stella'. First, everyone was peasant and knew what they are doing. My issue was with the party boat. They booked 12 people on it and it is WAY TOO SMALL for 12. The sign outfront had stated 10 but someone crossed it off with marker. 10 would have been crowded on the boat. Then they want to keep the tinyest of fish. Ok I don't have an issue if they want to keep them but they werent marking fish. Overall that was not an enjoyable trip and we will book elsewhere. My husband and I spent half a day with Captain Steve and Stan on Reef Runner II and had an excellent time. Steve gave a great presentation of how the day was going to go before we left and Stan gave a great presentation about the fishing and working the rods and reels as we trolled away from the marina. We went out on a 4 hour afternoon trip. The seas were rough but we managed to catch one good sized Mahi Mahi and two smaller ones that we couldn't keep. The rest were Bonito fish that were ultimately used for bait. Two people were able to fish at a time. The one keeper fish was split between five people on board. Captain Craig was great and First Mate Rosco worked his butt off. We had a good time, but wish we were able to take home more than one fish. read more

3/4 day trip out towards the gulf. We started bottom feeding and caught about 50-100 letter snappers, and groupers. After we had a little bait we switched to king fishing. The biggest one was right at 40lbs took about 20-30 minutes to reel it in. Captain told us in the morning we could go out deep or stay near the reefs. But hasn't been productive in those areas. Wow what a day on the water with Capt. Conch charters. We booked a half day charter and were assigned the Capt. Conch boat. Capt. Gary and 1st mate Brian were awesome. After about an hour traveling out they put the lines in and started to fish. Bam one after another we hit a school of dolphin fish. We landed 10 keepers in a row in about 10 minutes time. We caught another 10 or more fish and only a few more keepers. They bagged up the filets after the charter for us. We only kept three full bags and let them keep the rest. Best fresh Mahi Mahi!!!! The Captain obviously knew where the fish were biting, and mate Ricky keep the bait in the water - even when we had two fish on at a time. We're a military family with a graduating senior who's been to three high schools in four years and didn't even get a graduation. So we spent the day with Captain Gary and First Mate Cisco instead, and it was an amazing day! I guarantee we had more fun on this charter than I did walking across a stage, putting fish after fish after fish on ice in the cooler. We started out with a professional, but friendly walk-through of our procedures and safety requirements with the mate, and inside of an hour we were nailing blackfin tuna about 8 miles off-shore. Then we hit the mahi mahi (aka Dolphin Fish) and it was insanity, all three of us in chairs, bringing in these beautiful and delicious fish that are going to be our tacos for the next couple of weeks! For six hours we enjoyed the beautiful turquoise waters, the sun, the wind, and the smile on our son's face. They filleted all of our fish on return, packed 'em in bags, and we drove back to the house to start eating our tuna sushi with Aloha shoyu. We went out today in a 4 hour fishing excursion. Overall the fishing was pretty fun - I only caught 2 small bonitas (which were thrown back), but my wife caught a 23 lb. dolphin fish. Another gentleman caught a second dolphin fish of roughly the same size. We agreed to evenly distribute the fish amongst the group since three of us hadn't caught anything of note. I was surprised that at the end of the trip, the fish was cleaned and we were only given a 2 lb. portion for the both of us (not 2 lbs. each, 2 lb. total). There were 5 of us in the charter, and it appeared that less than half the total fish was distributed amongst the guests that each paid $150 plus 20% tip. The rest went to the captain and deck hand (which was fine, they certainly worked hard for it) and 4 random guys that showed up at the end of the trip. I'd never seen these guys before, they did nothing for the trip, and all I can imagine is that they were friends that knew they could bum some lunch. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I loved the fishing experience, but I wouldn't charter them again. read more

The boat is a bare bones converted Navy liberty launch. Price is comparatively reasonable. We bottom fished fairly close to shore. We caught a good assortment of fish. Enough for dinner. We had a family of 7. They are licensed to 10. Most boats max is 6. Had a great time. The crew was wonderful with the kids. Perfect family fishing outing. Definitely request Captain Tosh as she really made the trip a huge success for the kids. Take extra cash to tip the crew. read more

I've been on a ton of charters and this was by far the worst charter I've ever experienced. The Captain was hands down the most unprofessional captain I've ever met. He drank 4 beers on the charter and oh by the way they were our beers and he didn't even ask. He smoked a cigarette the whole time without asking and I even asked him to smoke further away from me and he didn't. He cursed at other boaters and made the situation embarrassing. He lied to us multiple times. I could go on but I think this should be enough to tell you never to go on this boat again. His name was Captain "Cook". He also treated his shipmate like dirt. And oh we caught 2 fish that were less than a pound each in KEY WEST! And at the end of the trip he yelled at my buddy "you filet the fish" when he asked him if he could filet the 2 we caught. They didn't even have a fish finder on the boat. Very unorganized. Do not go here! read more

We booked a trip for my father and I to join a split charter on a Monday morning. Over the weekend when the forecast for Monday changed to heavy rain and thunder and lightening storms we called the owner Ritchie (more than 24 hours ahead of time) and asked if we could please move our reservation to Tuesday as we figured Monday's trip was likely to be canceled anyways due to the weather. He said okay sure and moved us with no issues. Then on Monday morning the day before we were set to begin our trip Ritchie called in a fit of rage and immediately began yelling that my elderly father and I had "wimped out" for not wanting to pay $500 to fish in a thunderstorm and as a result we were no longer welcome on his boat for Tuesday either. Then he hung up before I could even get a word out of my mouth. (It proceeded to pour that entire day). Please do yourself a favor and avoid Captain Conch at all costs. I ended up booking with Jolly Roger II (305-292-8595) instead and had the best day of fishing in my life. Tuna, wahoo, dolphin, everything. The captain Joe Mercurio has been fishing in Key West for over 30 years and is a complete pro. For the same price that Captain Conch charges for 6 people to be on their boat you will be one of just 4 on Jolly Roger II, meaning 50% more fish for the same price! went Deep Sea today on 8/15/2013 with the captain and his first mate, we have gone deep several times and had the best time today, it wasn't about the Big Barracudas we caught or the Mahi Mahi fish it was the experience, these guys know the history of the island, the reef, the places to catch the fish and especially the places were not to go.
