Captain Corey knows where the fish live and, as he says, he is an impatient man. This trip we moved 5 times and caught fish at every stop. If the fish are too small or if everyone is not catching he'll move on to the next secret spot. On both trips there's been great staff working their butts off to help with fish on the line, caught hooks and bait. You can't do better in Key West than the Cora Beth.

Cory was our captain and he was GREAT! Super reasonably priced - 11am until 4pm and it was $161 for the both of us to fish. It's $75 each to fish and $5 each for pole rental/bait. You can also bring your own poles/bait and they won't charge you the nominal $5. You need to do this while in Key West! After we caught a mutton snapper the captain filleted the fish and gave it to us (we brought our own disposable cooler) and he recommended to bring it to Kaya Island Restaurant to eat for dinner. All else was included with the charter. We caught a Sailfish (6-footer), a Barracuda, 2 Bonito fish, and a 24 pound Mackerel which we took for food. There were many other charters fishing around us, who weren't catching anything. We lost a few big fish as well (the fish broke the line). We had such a great time we're planning on another charter next year! Not 5 stars because this is an old boat and it does lack some conveniences, not because of the fishing, Capt. or mates. 1. If you're on a deep drop trip, you're fishing with electrics and heavy lead weights. Not everyone listens to the Capt./Mates which results in tangles. If you are on the Tortugas trip, it's going to be crowded. 2. These trips are long. You need to come prepared for the long hours. You are paying for rail time... use it to your advantage. Pack as per the instructions on the YankeeC website. 3. Prepare rigs as per the instructions on the YankeeC website. Do not try to re-invent the wheel. They know what works and what doesn't to catch fish. That goes with bait too. I have found that 5 lb boxes of whole medium squids and 15-24 Goggle Eye's works best. You can substitute the Goggle's if unavailable. 4. This is not a luxury cruise. No food service, bunks are just that, bunks. The shower is "rustic" (minimal), but it does the trick. If you remember that you're there to catch fish you will not be disappointed. 5. The mates are your best friends on the trip. Listen to your mates! Honestly, they know more about what works than you do. 6. One downside is that you have to bring your own food. The upside is that your trip cost is far less than other boats. I bring 1 cooler with food and 1 with drinks and ice. Coffee & water are available on board. 7. Capt Greg (and Capt. Marco) will do their best to try and put you on fish. Sometimes it's your time to catch, and sometimes it's your neighbor's, but you will catch fish. 8. I don't understand all of the negative comments about Capt. Greg being rude/nasty. He is not there to be your friend. He is there to safely get you to the fishing grounds, put you on fish, provide you with assistance to catch fish, and get you home all of which he does very well. If you take the time to talk with him, you will find him to be a very nice person who takes his job/responsibility very seriously and wants you to return to the dock with a full cooler. Here's the bottom line: you are going on a serious fishing trip, further offshore than most will ever go in their lives, to catch fish with some soon to be close personal friends with the same objective. If you're too independent (or stubborn) to follow the Mates or Capt's recommendations, don't book on the YankeeC. If you want a luxury cruise, don't book. If you want to catch fish... book with confidence. Tight lines!

I've been fishing for 45 years. I have my own boats. Run my own charters. This dude is bad all around for any fisherman. Aggressive demeanor. Assumes you know nothing about boating or fishing. Called him out on it immediately after anchoring 15 miles offshore. Told him I could help him with whatever he needed. His words. "Best thing you can do for me is to stay out of my way". Told him he was really uptight. He seemed surprised and asked me again what I said, so I repeated it. He dialed it back a bit but the tone was already set. Trying to diffuse and make things less stressful for my brother, who is not a fisherman, I spoke with Scott about his profession in key west. Told him I have vast experience with boats and fishing. He admitted that he knew nothing about fishing when he moved to FL from Fort Wayne Indiana. Asked him about some basic fishing knots. He seemed disinterested. Saw him tying clinch knots which is basic but good for light yellowtail. Asked him about his feelings on the Albright for braid to flouro. He had no idea what it was. Seconds later, my brother has a decent fish on and tells him to reel against the drag while I'm telling him to reel down and pull up. Well he reels against drag. He is not a fisherman. Scottie keeps telling him to reel...only to yell at him after he lands the fish but does not keep tension on the rod AFTER the fish is on the boat because the line gets coiled at the tip. Only guy on this planet that will tell you to keep the bail closed after the fish is on the boat as he's trying to get the fish off of the hook. It's only because he is telling his clients to reel against the drag and his line is completely sprung out. Even the novice fisherman reading this knows this is either completely wrong, or that this cap Scottie is fishing with 8 year olds every day. Also, be prepped for a 30 year old single engine boat which he admitted to. Rear gunnel not suited for offshore. 1 ft in rear. 2 in front. I gave him 100 tip only because he showed compassion for feeding a chicken some dog food at the dock when we got back. I have this entire trip on my go pro. Vid don't lie. I will await his response before I release the footage. I am now a lower keys resident so I'd be happy to meet Scott at HB for a candid conversation in person you choose. I saw your extremely offensive responses to so many other customers. I would love to discuss in person. Lots you do right. Lots you do wrong like all of us. Fishing is supposed to be enjoyable whether you catch fish or just enjoy the day on the water. Nothing but stress on this trip from the second we stepped on the vessel. I should add that my brother did catch a short cobia but Scottie released it before I could snap a photo. We also did catch 4 keeper yellow tail and a lane which he cleaned nicely. I would've thrown them all back and paid 2000 bucks more for a better charter experience. Man it's tough to leave such a bad review. I know what it takes to run a business like this. It's hard. Really really hard and nobody is making a killing doing it. I just don't want others to have the feelings that we were left with. Maybe this should be a kids charter only.
