My usual takeout is closed on Tuesday's. Was heading home in south York and remembered that there was a Chinese restaurant in the shopping center. I really wanted this to be higher because they have a very charming waiting section, a nice boba selection, and a nice modern and traditional menu. I'll start with the positives first. The main dishes were from the lunch menu and were portioned very well and were actually very good. The General Tso had nice cuts with broccoli and those hot peppers. The kids enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken. Spring and shrimp egg rolls were pretty tasty as well. Since it was our first time here I got 4 regular milk teas with boba for me and my daughters. Legit boba place just discovered closer to home.Average items, the fried rice was fried rice not bad but didn't stand out, the egg rolls(missing the house hot mustard they said they would include) and the wonton soup okay. Negative, beef sticks were not cheap and were extremely overcooked, kids agreed. Might not be my go to for Chinese food, but I will be back sometime to try the sushi burritos and boba with the ladies any day. Wanted to give a higher score but missed on a few items and really was craving the hot mustard for my spring and egg rolls. 4.2/5 wanted to give a five but maybe it's a 5 for Sushi burritos and boba, will revisit my review soon, ty! read more

Hate to reduce my stars on this but my usual order of steamed vegetables came soaked in some sort of brown sauce. It was late and we were too tired to take it back, but when we called they said it did not contain something I'm allergic to. No offer to fix or remove it from the bill. read more

Our family decided to make Christmas easy and different this year and since it was just 5 of us we decided to have Chinese food take-out. All the food was great but the 4 quarts of WonTon soup was terrible. It seemed to be missing an essential element... like chicken stock or something else? All of the quart containers were the same. Tasteless. This isn't usual for this place as we have gone there routinely and has been quite good over many years. We tried adding soy sauce and salt, black pepper and white pepper and this made the dumplings ok but the broth was just slightly better than warm water. Asked for veggie spring roll and veggie roll marked a note for them to call me if they could not accommodate the order request. Received no call from first wok. I've been coming to First Wok since I was a kid. Always been my favorite chinese in the area. When I called, something seemed off. I was used to someone pleasant and friendly, not this time. Menu seemed way different. I asked if management had changed, and the young woman said no. I'm pretty sure that was a lie. Couldn't even eat the beef in my beef and broccoli and the egg drop soup was flavorless. Major downgrade. So, unfortunately the knickknacks they are selling at the front desk isn't the only thing that has changed. Very sad to lose this place. read more

Came here for lunch with coworkers and the lunch specials are stacked with food for a low price. For less than $10 you receive hot tea, choice of soup, entree, and choice of rice. I ordered the general tso chicken with fried rice and wonton soup. Delivered quick and hot, and the staff won't let you take a sip of water without refilling it. Okay... let me preface this review my saying I am an absolute food snob, and I have yet to find decent Chinese food in York, PA. I have never been to China, but I am cultured enough to understand that food served in most Chinese restaurants in the United States isn't authentic. And, let's be honest-- lots of Americans would probably be taken aback (and maybe even weirded out) by authentic Chinese cuisine. But I digress.... I have had the pleasure of visiting a number of very good Chinese restaurants in the United States, and this place really didn't do it for me. There were very few interesting vegetarian options, so I opted for a general tso's shrimp dish... the shrimp was so heavily breaded, I bit through what felt like a quarter of an inch of deep-fried coating before even getting to the shrimp, which didn't taste very fresh. The sauce was unexciting, and reminded me of something I could have gotten in a jar from the grocery store. I gave my meal to my undiscerning husband to finish because he will eat just about anything. To be fair, I know many central Pennsylvanians who really like deep fried, simply-seasoned foods, so I can understand why many of the locals like this place. That's cool. I just won't go out of my way to return. It's very possible I've been spoiled by higher-end cuisine in larger cities. Quality of the food has gone down hill recently. The chicken and rice tasted like it was sitting around all day and then reheated. We ordered Orange shrimp that was soggy and looked like chicken instead. Egg roll was more like a soggy roll. Used to be a nice place to dine in but now everything is take out since Covid. I've lived in York for almost a year now and almost weekly my wife and I enjoy dining here or grabbing carryout. I never thought to yelp the place cause it's your run of the mill chinese food joint. However after seeing the reviews and pics on here I felt compelled to put up some of my own thoughts. Having grown up in an Asian household and in New York City, you get a bit picky when it comes to Chinese food even if it is Americanized. So for me to keep coming back must say something right? The staff here is very friendly... English is obviously not their first language but they make the effort to give the customers what they want. When calling in orders they've never gotten anything wrong and always give a lot of extra goodies for the carryout orders (tea bags, fried noodles, duck sauce...). The food is pretty good. I always order different stuff to try depending on my mood, so I'd recommend anything from the basic soups to the specials, which they have posted on a chalkboard as you walk in. The dining area isn't too shabby either. A nice little sit down place, with decent decor... Overall a friendly atmosphere. All in all... If you're in York and craving Chinese food, this spot is a great choice... It's right off exit 14 on I83. And if you're from York... You know they're aren't many choices for good food... read more

Best Chinese food I have ever had. Cannot speak to the meat on hooks, let's hope that is a thing of the past. I have been going to first wok for 20ish years. Never had a bad experience, staff is always so helpful and willing to food is plentiful and cheap not to mention the best I've ever had. Best deal is to go for lunch, you get soup or I usually sub an egg roll and an entree for a low lunch price. I don't get the hype. We've tried this place twice and weren't impressed either time. The first shot, the general Tsao's chicken was so salty it was inedible but the shrimp toast and rangoons were good. We decided to give it another shot, but the second time the shrimp toast was all but burnt, the grab rangoons were over-fried, and the chicken lo-mein was absolutely drenched in soy sauce. First Wok has been a family favorite for years! We love the Fried noodles dipped in duck sauce Hot tea while we wait for meals. I can't really comment on the other review mentioning meat hanging on hooks in the back of the restaurant, as I have never witnessed it and have never had a bad meal here. I have actually been a fan of the First Wok since they opened their first restuarant in West York back in the early 90's. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it is better than average. The staff has always been friendly and service always good. I would not hesitate to recommend the First Wok to anyone having a Chinese food craving. read more

She absolutely loves their Kung pao chicken extra spicy and I love the steamed dumplings with ginger soy sauce and the dragon and phoenix that has sweet and sour shrimp and general taos chicken. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL if you are looking to be treated as a human being. My family orders large meals for carry out on a regular basis, and First Wok has completely lost our business due to ridiculously incompetent and offensive "customer service." I don't get easily frazzled, and I'm so mad I can't even eat my order, which happens to be wrong for the third time tonight. The gal on the phone blamed me for mix-up, and did not offer a discount, let alone an apology. After getting the manager on the phone, she insulted my (amazingly kind and patient) husband, and threatened to recant what she FINALLY offered, a $10 discount on an over $70 order, saying, "You're asking too much! Keep it up and you won't get any refund at all!" Excuse me? Eat at First Wok, where the customer is always wrong! This was a good restaurant when it was out on West Market. Got the General Tso's and it was dry and overcooked before it was thrown into a gelatinous sauce with two pieces of raw brocolli. Definitely wouldn't recommend the sweet and sour soup which was so salty it tasted neither sweet nor sour. The eggroll was good but greasy. It's a shame because First Wok was the best Catonese around when they first opened in York. Just hadn't eaten there in a while and dont plan on returning anytime soon. read more
