Took over a month to address the issue with my car, incorrectly diagnosed it once telling me it was done, made me take a bus an hour out to Roanoke, only to tell me that they hadn't actually fixed the issue. Called about my airbag not working at it being covered under a recall. Asked when I could have an appointment and the phone operator said July 17th then laughed audibly over the phone. It is may 30th. She laughed because I'm going to be driving for a month without my airbag. Awful service. Hire more people if you're backed out by over a month. Bought a 2015 VW Passat in 2018. Took it in because the oil light came on at 130,000 miles. 15,000 miles after the powertrain warranty I bought ran out. Coincidence I guess. Southern Team said they saw no signs of a leak and oil change is due in 1500 miles. Oh by the way it was short two quarts of oil, and that it's just using some oil now. Two quarts! You mean it used 35% of the oil it's supposed to have to run adequately and your answer is add oil? Engine oil is not an additive, it's supposed to remain at consistent levels to maintain low friction ensuring engine life span and fuel efficiency. I complemented First Team for so long and said I'd do business with them again. Not now. They lost the loyalty they earned over 5 years with poor service and lack of concern for taking care of customer. read more

The service department is overbooked, inflexible and enjoys telling lies. This wasn't my first visit to this dealer's service department, it was my third. Each time, the story has always been: "Oh, we're booked solid for today and the next three days. Come back tomorrow and we can squeeze you in." When tomorrow comes, it's the same nonsense. Because of this great dealer (sarcasm in use) I had to forfeit my 10,000 service (which you basically prepay on VWs) and had to go down the street and pay $120. I love my suv but the service department is unreliable. My previous appointment was scheduled for oil change and tire rotation. I asked if they could look at hydrolics in back hatch. Two and half hours later when the car was returned they ONLY checked hydrolics. Today's appointment was more upsetting because after scheduling an appointment to have my brakes changed we drive an hour, in a vehicle that brakes are scrubbing to be told they do not have the brakes, wanted to know if I called the parts department and order them? I was not told to call the parts department was not transferred to the parts department. How was I to know I had to order the parts for the service department to do the service I do not understand! so we where forced to get a renta for $35 a day while they order the brakes and mine is fixed. There has to be another place that can service my vehicl that isn't only out to cost their customers more money and actually care that the vehicles get serviced. Don't worry neither of our brand new volkeswagons will be brought back to you "service" department, we actually need our cars serviced! read more

The service department here is absolutely terrible. They had my 09 Passat for three and a half weeks. The first week, it wasn't even looked at. The second week, the mechanic was trying to figure out the problem blind due to the service manager not explaining the problem to him. Another week and a half later my car was finally returned to me without being fixed and charged me $800. There was no communication for the first two entire weeks they had my car. Also, they tried to charge me $4600.00 for timing chain repair! That's almost double the price of a new engine. If you need VW service, skip First Team Roanoke and go to Winston Salem NC. Had a very negative experience trying to buy a car here. I visited for a test drive and then worked with someone over the phone. They tried to sell me on models and colors I really didn't want, told me things that are simply untrue about fuel economy (I do research in this area), insisted on my coming into the dealership again when I told them that between my job and young kids it was nearly impossible to find the time to do so, and didn't return my call inquiring about special ordering a car. I guess they really didn't want my money. I ended up buying the car at another dealership. read more

I am a long time VW user and serviced my car regularly at First Team Volkswagen Roanoke. Mr Woody is the sole person keeping the VW brand a float, totally understaffed and too busy to give customer service. The service office is 3rd world no chairs for the customers, no parking space for the customer. In the lot you get welcomed by second hand car sales people leaning on sitting on their fancy wheeled golf carts. Visiting a dealership should be a welcoming experience. It is intimidating. The lot and show room are full with cars mostly second hand brand X. I do not feel I am in a VW dealership. Sorry to be a snob but you are not in tune with the VW demographics . I will not buy a new car from your dealership. If it wasn't for mr. Woody I would have long gone for the service too. read more

I'm 9 months pregnant and wanted to get my car detailed before the baby came. Subaru had me schedule my detail at this dealer. I paid $150 for detail, wax, buffer. My car was 1/4 buffered- so many places hadn't been done. My trunk wasn't vacuumed and the opening and door jams weren't cleaned. They vacuumed my car inside but I had to re-do it when I got home under the seats were not vacuumed. NOTHING was even wiped down. I had to clean the entire inside including seats when I got home. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home, I was and still am so upset they would take advantage of me when it's had for me to clean being this late in my pregnancy. I left a message with Subaru that nothing was completed and never heard back. They also couldn't get me in for 3 weeks. I waited 3 weeks for that. Never again. read more

I got an immediate and helpful email when i asked for information (unlike some dealers who respond, but with things other than what i was looking for)...and then the salesman (george) was great. I was torn between a new Jetta and a Subaru WRX, andthey had a great pre-owned Subaru with low miles that met all my specifications.
