Matt from First Response restored my faith in service professionals! He was knowledgeable, punctual, courteous, and very reasonably priced. He demonstrated a vast level of experience and evaluated the situation quickly, presenting us with all of options to correct our issues without attempting to push any particular decision. I trust this company and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone in search of a company that can be relied on to exceed expectations. http://www.frhvac.com/ read more

If you ever hire these clowns they will never, ever stop leaving you voicemails desperately begging you to hire them. They've left me at least 300 voicemails for six years. I've asked them to remove me from their calling list twice. They simply lie and say that they will, and then they'll leave me another voicemail the very next day. Only hire them if you want a lifetime of voicemails, one per week. read more

We were told our old furnace and air conditioning unit had a leak in the winter, my husband believed them and had a unit that was older but never had a service call replaced with what we now know is completely inadequate for the size of our house. This company should be stopped. I am writing a letter to the Maryland State's Attorney for because of their business practices. read more

1 star is actually very generous. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My young daughter and her family woke up to no heat on 1/21/2026. She called this company and had a tech come out that evening. He explained to her how her unit is old and basically fried. NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE IT for 14,000! With impending snow she almost got taken advantage of. Thank GOD she called another company for a 2nd opinion and it was fixed in less than an hr for under 400$. Taking advantage of anyone is NOT ok. read more

DO NOT TRUST COMPANY! Months ago we decided to replace our central air. This compay was nice but nothing more than a used car salesman selling you something. Not long after we got it, thinking we now had peace of mind where the ac wouldn't conk out in a heatwave, it started making a noise. We turned it off to be safe, and luckily it wasn't too hot. Before we could have someone come check, it got hot, so we turned it back on. The noise had stopped. Canceled the appointment. Weeks later there was freon leaking down the side of the basement unit and on the floor. Someone came out to look and said we had to keep it off until they got the new coil (this one was too big apparently). A week without ac, my mother is a senior and I'm in a hospital bed with progressive MS and can't take the heat. We had to have someone come over and bring the attic window ac down to our dining room and run it 24/7 for days. Also had to cut some wood to keep it from bending the window sill. The guy finally come out, says he had the wrong coil, had to run and get the other at the warehouse place. Put it in and said we couldn't have the vent down there now but we needed one so the basement got some air. He used electrical tape to make a vent. Weeks later there was a rattling noise in the living room vent we never heard prior and kept me awake all night but it would stop and go. This time we called BGE. Guy comes out and says he was shocked it cost so much and they could've did the furnace too for that price. He asked if we had a permit and inspection. We said the guy said we didn't need one. Bge guy said there should've been cap locks outside for safety but there were screws instead. We asked the hvac company, he said he didn't see that in the pic he had. Either he was lying or the guy who did the job lied. We had to take a pic and send it for him to even send someone come do it. He came out to look first and said the vent was unprofessional and he had someone fix that as well. By now we're wondering how many other issues were there we didn't know about. Now we called and emailed saying we heard you need a permit and inspection. He said he didn't. We called the permit place and several people said he wasn't even registered and he DOES need a permit. Again he said no and asked for the name and number of who I spoke to. I texted him. He didn't reply. Called permit office again and they called the guy and said he Ned's to get it done. That was days ago. Still not a word from company. MONTHS now, phone calls, emails, texts and they denied needing a permit every time. Now the owner told the permit chief he didn't know he needed one, even though we've been telling him all this time! The company did issue a $300 refund to cover our electric bill for having ro run our window ac for a week. But all these other issues?? The phone calls and emails and appointments, etc. The fact we paid so much and the job wasn't even done right. The fact they lie about it. Do not trust this company! EDIT 14 Sep: Never bothered to tell us an inspection was finally set up. We happened to talk to the permit depth and they said it was scheduled for the next day! Inspector denied the permit for now because the box (fuses?) outside is jammed and not property done so the has to have the company fix it so he can make sure everything in it is correct. Of course nobody could address this (meetings one day, out the next day). More set backs! read more

First Response acquired Allied Phillips who we had been using for years and were very satisfied. Once First Reponse took over we have had nothing but bad experience. The scheduling windows are poor and the technician shows up late. When you leave messages with the answering service no one returns calls. When we asked them to provide a quote to replace one of our units, they had a sales rep come to the house who tried to upsell us. The quote they provided was significantly higher than other quotes we received. Sadly we don't plan to renew our service contract. read more

HORRIBLE. These guys tried to tell me the heat exchange was broken and the whole system needed replaced. As anyone would do with a an estimate over $3000 dollars I got a second opinion and that second opinion not only told me that there was no crack but my unit is in great working shape for its age. Scammers is what these people are, STAY AWAY!!! read more

I should have went to the casino and put 10k on black. Taking a gamble is what this company is about. You never know what to believe. If they are telling the truth or trying to get more money out you. I had "first response" come out to my place today and try to tell me I needed to fix the crack in my heat exchanger. For those of you reading, go research heat exchanger... there are scams everywhere. That's what this scumbag place is a SCAM! Never again read more

Had this company come in for a check on our hvac due to moving and our buyers requesting a service to make sure it was in good shape (our unit is 20 years old). I was home with my 1 yo son when the technician was working, he called me down to tell me we had a crack and it would start to leak carbon monoxide anyday now. Of course this terrified me so I asked how much it would be to fix, they gave us an estimate for almost $3k. My husband decided to have a second opinion (which anyone should really do when it comes to this stuff), we did not tell the new company anything that first response had said, and as soon as the guy turned our system on he goes "well your unit is old, but there is no crack so everything is good". My husband spent almost 3 weeks trying to get a hold of the owner at first response, finally got in touch with him today to get our money back for fraudulent claims and the guy had a screaming match with my husband on the phone and refused to give us our money back. AWFUL COMPANY, DO NOT USE THEM. read more

First Response will give you false information. They will try to scare you into replacing items by saying things like being at risk of dying from carbon monoxide. Had other companies look at it for second opinions and was told the unit was old and needed to be replaced soon but there were no dangers. I had given them a deposit and now they won't give it back to me. They are unethical and deceptive. Shame on them for preying on a young fathers fears. I hired the other company. read more

This company will scam you. DO NOT USE. Will try and get you to purchase parts and repairs that are not needed.

They said they were ordering the part, haven't heard from them since. I've gotten the split system fixed by someone else who actually knows what they are doing. Don't use this company!!! This app won't let me give minus stars. read more

Horrible experience, replaced my AC unit with a damaged unit, put the cover screen on upside down allowing birds to easily enter the fan vent, lied and told me they replaced my thermostat and the old one was still in place, rookie installers, had to use my ladder since they didn't have one, ran large beads of caulk around unit against brick and didn't smooth the caulk, spent half my work day outlining all the issues to them, and very expensive, ....should have gone with a larger and more reputable firm. read more

I'm really hoping that I can give this company a great rating as I am still in the process of working with them. The initial issue which has caused delay in my A/C unit being fixed is that my unit is really old and the part that was initially ordered was not compatible. But now that a new part has been ordered 2 weeks ago by the warranty company, First response is not responding! They need to respond to the warranty company to confirm the new part. I've called several times for updates and no one gets back to me. The warranty has called them several times and no one has gotten back to them. I realize that they are super busy with lots of folks with A/C issues that must be taken care of but I have been extremely patient throughout this process. It is going on a almost a month where I have no A/C. I hope to update this review with a much better rating if this issue gets resolved in the very very near future but as of right now, the rating is slightly on the low side. read more
