I came across First Reflection AV on Yelp as I was researching businesses that could not only configure an AV system but could do one with in-ceiling speakers and hidden wiring. I just purchased a single family home with an open floor plan and a living room area that wasn't huge, so having any kind of exposed wiring was not an option and I didn't want to devote any floor space to speakers or speaker stands. I am also an audiophile so a fully wireless setup was not going to work for me. To top it all off my house was newly renovated and the walls recently painted so I had concerns about how many holes would have to be punched into my ceilings and walls in order to wire up the whole system. Enter Ron and his associate Joel. Ron was super responsive and after an initial consultation he put together a thorough, itemized, estimate that included his recommendations on equipment including speakers, controller, cabling (cables do matter!) and ultimately an upgraded A/V receiver. It wasn't cheap, but it was fair and in line with expectations. As for my concerns about lots of extraneous holes? I didn't need to worry. Joel deftly ran a CAT cable from the router in my office on one side of the house underneath my house all the way to the living room on the other side of the house, drilling only one small hole in the office floor and making one opening in the living room wall. Joel then leveraged that opening to skillfully run speaker wire up the wall to the ceiling where he needed to make only two additional openings (one in the wall and one in the ceiling) to run ALL the wiring necessary for 5 speakers in the ceiling for 5.1 channel audio plus 2 more speakers across the room for two channel audio in the kitchen. Only three extraneous openings for 7 in-ceiling speakers? Oh did I mention it was done in just two days?! Remarkable! As Ron had promised, they fitted and screwed the drywall pieces back into place perfectly to make it super easy for the painters to mud, sand and paint over it. You can't even tell where those holes were now. Another promise Ron made was that this system would produce the best sound quality I had ever experienced and he was right. I even prefer it to movie theater sound and Ron hasn't even calibrated my system yet (I wanted to wait for my new couch and to put down my rug since I knew that would affect the calibration process). The sound is rich, full and balanced. Not too bright sounding and not at all boomy (boomy bass is NOT an indication of good quality sound). Do not hesitate to use First Reflection AV! We're doing an extensive remodel, and after the builder's AV guy flaked on us, I turned to Yelp and found Ron. It's been my experience with several AV companies that they don't ask the necessary questions to understand what it is you want, and I've ended up feeling pressured to buy into a hugely expensive, overboard system that's too complex and with better audio quality than I want to pay for. That said, I needed more than 8 rooms completely rewired with Cat 6, five TV locations, two motorized TV lifts, ceiling speakers for music, and a major cleanup of our distribution panel. Additionally, I wanted to extend WiFi outside and up our hill, so that I can control sprinklers and frost protection. So it was a big job and complex because of all the different locations and coordinating with the construction schedule. From the very first meeting, I was so happy with Ron's earnest and thorough demeanor. He walked the house with us and took copious notes, talking through our desires and the best way to achieve a good system that was easy for us to operate with a minimum of complexity. We wanted good - not great - audio, although it's clear he can achieve whatever level of audio performance is desired. The important thing is he listened to what it was that we wanted, and didn't try to pressure us into more, simply because it's possible. The project took a couple of days, and Ron was onsite the whole time. Both of the workers he brought with him were excellent and easy to communicate with. When minor hiccups happened, which is expected on any job, Ron solved them with no issues. All together, he is responsive, stays involved, thorough, budget conscious, with a high degree of technical knowledge. Ron and the install team of First Reflection are some of the best folks I've ever worked with on a major home improvement project. Responsive, flexible, helpful folks that treat every aspect of the job as if it was their own home. Ron was constantly in contact on every element of the job, components required, updates on progress, timelines of execution, needed things from me (inputs, approvals, etc), and next steps to come from him and the team. He kept the project moving forward, regardless of the bumps in the road (and all projects have them... this one was no exception) and worked hard to ensure my continued satisfaction as the project reached it's completion. So why the 4 Star rating? Ron and his install team (the install team were total rockstars) deserve and earned their 5 star feedback... Unfortunately, the equipment provider to First Reflection for this project is what dragged this review down, and I can't rate them independently, so the weak link in the chain had some impact on the overall score... Immediately upon installation of the brand new gear for our networking project, I knew something was amiss as one critical piece of equipment was delivering internet at a very low rate of throughput/efficiency. Ron was immediately responsive, engaged, and connected with the equipment provider with data, facts, test results, performed troubleshooting, and presented a huge swath of detailed information to support what should have been a "one and done" technical support call/resolution. To his credit, Ron was extremely transparent with those interactions and let me listen in/participate on those calls, which I appreciated because he was committed to getting it right as quickly as possible. The equipment provider, while presenting themselves as professional and pleasant to work with, required at least 3 separate interactions to just understand the problem being faced and presented level 1 solutions and basic knowledge that was surprisingly weak for their core product line. We got them to send another unit to test a potential resolution and identified (with a surprisingly large amount of work on our end) that the device itself was not designed to meet the needs of my home's setup. Ron advocated for me and stood with us through the entire process, escalated multiple times, and reached a workable and mutually agreed resolution that will get our home the best possible technology solution. Ron made lemonade out of the situation and was steadfast in his expectation that I would be a satisfied customer at the close of this effort. Bottom Line: Ron and First Reflection are the right folks for the job... Ask lots of questions, ensure Ron knows what you need/want out of the project and he will do whatever it takes to work towards a collective win. We are very satisfied with the help Ron provided in improving our home audio video systems. He really listened to our needs and designed systems that met and exceeded those needs. Having wired Internet music and programming has really expanded listening opportunities. All our data is now stored on a separate hard drive. Its hard to find the one word that would encompass what Ron's role really is when working on a project. He not only designs and consults, but then actually builds, coordinates, optimizes, cleans and manages satisfaction. He is truly a project producer. He did 4 distinct systems in our house and each of them work perfectly well together. First, the family room. 5 speakers in the ceiling, a mounted 70" LED LCD, 2 15" sub woofers, a dozen components and a full RTI remote system to pull it all together. Now that is just a list of equipment and hardly does his work any justice. Ron is the guy who measured every angle of where everything was placed, worked with Valet Custom Cabinets to have everything built around the components and the experience, and worked countless DAYS to make sure every worked exactly as I wanted - even whenever I changed my mind. Secondly, the loft. Again, another project with Valet custom where they built the entertainment center around family viewing and game playing. A 3.1 system of Bower and Wilkins sound, with an incredible rack system and mounted 70" sharp. Everything is tuned and balanced perfectly - better than any 5 start hotel I've stayed at anywhere in the world. Again, another perfect RTI system holding everything together. Third, the guest room. A floating 40" edge-less LCD mounted for guests who want to retire and watch a bit of TV before they sleep, or perhaps some cartoons in the morning. And lastly, what pulls it all together is a fully automated RA2 Lutron lighting system across the entire house. With over 50 LED lights through-out the house, my lighting system is integrated with both RTI systems allowing me to turn to any custom setting, or individually adjust any one of 50 different devices from the comfort of my house. With systems with over 500 moving parts its hard to get everything to work perfectly on day one - but Ron is a true professional who would continue to work day and night until everything worked exactly as promised. There was never any price increases from what he quoted. Once he quoted a price, he would do everything to make it work within what he agreed. I did some research and found First Reflection Audio Video (FRAV) on Yelp. I was so amazed by all of the positive reviews that I decided to go for it. They say that people excel in jobs that they like to do, and Ron is a perfect example of this. His attention to detail is incredible. And I could tell that Ron is so excited about the work that he does. If you are looking for someone that is a leader in this rapidly changing technology, Ron is your man. I had an idea about what I wanted; Ron assessed my house and gave me my options. I went with a home theater system in the family room and an eight-zone Sonos system (with room for expansion) for music throughout the house and backyard. The Home Theater System is comprised of a 70" Sony 3D 4K HDTV for the main TV and two 24" HDTVs for monitors that tuck behind the big TV when not in use (I watch a lot of sports). It includes five Stealth Acoustics surround-sound speakers in the ceiling and two powerful subwoofers (I can get the whole house to shake). The input includes cable TV, Apple TV, 3D Blu-Ray, Chromecast, and Sonos. With the Sonos system we are able to play music from our iPhones, iPad, computer, Pandora, Sirius XM, or tap into just about any radio station in the world. For instance, we had our Italian relatives visiting and we were able to tune to their favorite Italian radio station. My wife does interior decorating as a hobby and has a dislike for wires, speakers, and equipment being in view. Ron convinced me to put the equipment out of sight in a cabinet in the laundry room and to go with the stealth speakers. We put the speakers in the ceiling for the home theatre system and in the walls for the other rooms in the house. Even with this massive system, not one single wire is in sight. My wife absolutely loves it. I was amazed at how Ron and his Team were able to get all that wiring in the walls with minimal disturbance. I felt I could trust Ron and I did - the first part of the installation was while we were on vacation so I gave him and his Team access to my house. Ron kept in contact with me and even sent me pictures of the plastic curtains they put up to isolate the dust and eliminate it from getting to our furnishings. This worked out real well. The software that Ron installed on my iPad for the home theater system is incredible. He found some brand new graphics templates and wanted me to go with those so bad that he gave it to me for $100 below his cost! He customized & programmed it for my system. All the control buttons for everything are there on the iPad and very easy to use. Even my wife (who is not very tech-savvy) can operate this system with ease. It's been over two months since Ron and his Team installed our system. I am so pleased with it - two thumbs up and five stars! We enjoy it more and more each day. My wife can be "jazzing it up" in the house and I can be "rocking out" in the backyard - and all so easy to control with our iPhones! I've had very poor experiences with Control 4 installers in the past. Prior to Ron, I worked with 4 different installers and the experience ranged from unknowledgeable to extremely unethical. After spending 30k and still not getting things working correctly I considered everything from pulling the system out to going to getting in trained myself so I can get access to program my own system. Ron came in and was extremely easy to work with. Very thoughtful and methodical in his approach to problem solve. Unlike other installers, he wasn't there to sell me something that I didn't need, but diagnose my problem and offered a fix that was right on to address the issue I was having and did so with consideration for what we would like our system to achieve long term. After two years of my system humming right along it was time for an upgrade. I had First Reflection come back and install a SONOS Connect along with a TiVo Bolt into my existing rig. In addition, Ron updated my remote as well as cleaned up my system cabinet so everything looks tight as a drum. TiVo has a new 'skip' feature (which is pretty cool - similar to Dish Hopper I think) - unfortunately, the skip command was not programmed into my remote. When I alerted Ron of the issue, he scheduled another visit out to my house (no charge) and fixed me right up. There were some challenges along the way during the installation but that wasn't due to Ron or his team's work. My dog needed surgery so it delayed the project a little. Also, I live in a three-story home and Ron had initially mentioned that installing a wifi access point on the 2nd floor may not give us full wifi coverage throughout the house but wanted to start out that way as he was trying to avoid us paying any more for equipment. He eventually had Greg return back to our home to install a 2nd wifi access point which gave us the full wifi access throughout the house. Overall, my husband and I are extremely happy with the AV project that Ron, Greg and Joel had worked so hard to complete. All the equipment was perfectly installed, from the tv and soundbar installed on the wall, the in-ceiling speakers, wfi access points, cable boxes, etc. It took about a few months from start to finish but it was well worth it! read more

Ron + AV system = #awesome I was looking for someone to assess the home for surround system installation with in ceiling speakers. After going through Yelp search, called Ron. From the first call, it was a pleasant and trusty conversation. He then visited my home and designed the setup with me. Full marks here for Ron for not just throwing his own designs but working with me at every step to seek my inputs and politely explaining why the other way make sense. We got to the agreement on design to move forward with quote. I had a specific request on timeline (it had to be done in 10days time before my family return home). Ron was able to provide a quote then order equipment, scheduled the work. Ron came with Greg & Joel the first day to pre-wire. They surprised me with almost no dry wall work (2 small square cubes) where as few others said there is going to be a lot of dry wall patches. They did the work super professional and treated the home/work as if they were doing it in their home. Then the other day, Ron came with John to install the speakers, receiver, network switch and network access points. John is a superstar with good humor. He enjoyed the work throughout the day and finished in pristine quality. Ron took some more time to set up the control4 system with different zones.
