I've known John for many years professionally. I'm a rep and originally met John when he was working for Century Stereo in San Jose. At that time Century was one of the top AV dealers in the country. John then went on to start his own company- HPAV. I bought a new OLED TV and needed someone to calibrate it. I contacted John and he suggested that I use the TV for a while prior to calibration to make sure the display was properly "broken in". He then called me back to set up a time. He showed up early and worked diligently for 6 hours making sure the display was as good as it could be. Words that come to mind of his service and work ethic- professional, patient, and extremely qualified. I read a review from a "jack m." and I have no idea who he is talking about. Really great experience with John and High Performance. We had a pretty extensive landscape overhaul in our backyard and he did a Sonoscape system for us with 3 zones. Everything was done on time, he made sure everything worked, he's stopped back over when a landscaper subsequently cut a line by accident, debugged an issue with a fan on of the amps, etc - couldn't be more happy with customer service, quality of work, quality of products he sells. If we ever wind up moving, I'm having John in right away for a similar system. One other thing to note: we wanted an in-house network for wifi. He came over and evaluated what we needed and wound up recommending a simple amplification device that I could do myself. We were already happy with the work before, but that really scored high on the trust side for me. read more

I got a quote from John Dewey (the owner) sent him a check and he promptly quit after getting the money and cashing the check. This is what happened: I began to ask him about the job and why it costs so much. $6000 for upgrading access points (AP) to a newer AP and being a tech guy I was suspicious of his answer. I saw the AP online for $199 so it occurred to me that he was gouging me. But I knew this going into it because people told me he overcharges and tries to see what he can get away with. He's quite simply the most expensive technician I've ever worked with. Left me hanging after engaging with me. Too bad for him, it could have been months of business for him if he were more honest. I still don't have my money back. Don't know why he's so peculiar. read more

I used HPAV to install my TV and other peripheral equipment. The TV is flat mounted in the wall with a swing arm for multiple viewing positions and the rest of the equipment is set up in a custom cabinet. John did a great job, it's a very solid installation and looks beautiful. But the reason I'm really recommending HPAV is that the customer service was above and beyond. John answered the thousand questions I had very patiently and helped me narrow my design down to what would work best for me.
