Got a copy of a key for a file cabinet made here. I chose to go with this place because the KeyMe kiosk did not stock the key that I needed, and they had to ship it, and I was not sure if KeyMe would deliver a key that would work. KeyMe also said that many locksmiths would not stock this key, so I picked this place after reading some reviews. It took them three tries to get the keys that I got right because the lock did not seem like it was made by a major brand, and each time they attempted it, they were happy to do it. On the third try, I think it helped to remove the lock from the file cabinet and bring it in, so if getting good copies of a key is an issue, it may be a good practice to bring the lock to a local shop that can troubleshoot it in-person. The value was good; the amount came out cheaper than KeyMe. read more

I believe the technician was Anthony. He came on a same day appointment in the afternoon after calling in the morning. Our office door had finally given up the ghost and the cylinder was worn out in our lock and not turning. The locksmith tried the best he could with some tricks of the trade that were new to me watching, but eventually he had to drill the lock out. However, the replacement was done quickly, professionally, and we were given our new keys within the hour. The fee was very reasonable from one Los Altos business owner to another. We have been having problems for years with our 12 year old front door Baldwin deadbolt key lock. We decided to check our Diamond Certified book to see if we could find a locksmith. The only one in the latest updated book was First Lock in Los Altos. I called last week and spoke to owner, Gary Lekan, explained our problem, and he said he could send one of his techs out to fix the problem. We discussed his charges and scheduled an appointment for first call, 8am, this morning . Right on schedule, Anthony arrived. After demonstrating the problem we were experiencing, Anthony took the lock apart and diagnosed that it was a broken cylinder. He went out to his mobile van for a few minutes and returned after replacing the part. He reinstalled the lock and "voila" the key worked smoothly and perfectly. With First Lock we had one of the greatest, smoothest, and most efficient experiences we've ever had with a company. The results were awesome! We had a problem with our very old front door knob and when Will of First Lock came to the rescue, he showed us our options. We ended up replacing our old front door lock and door handle with a new door handle and lock. We ordered the new front door fixtures and handles and new handles for other doors that very day. Ed came out the same day my front door lock broke. He took the front door knob and panel and lever apart. I watched him carefully access each piece. He thought he could save it with the right parts back at the shop. He put a temporary lock in and worked at the shop until evening. He brought the whole thing back and reinstalled it in my door! We used First Lock to install new Emtek door hardware and hinges on all inside and outside doors and couldn't be happier. We first tried a handyman but it didn't work. These guys are highly recommended so we switched. Will was fantastic, creative, skilled and professional. This took about three days to do and they were flexible too. The hardware specialty store ordered some incorrect parts and First Security went with the flow and made adjustments to their schedule to accommodate us. The new handles look fabulous. The owner was friendly. But when making an appointment with me, gave me no details about cost or estimate, not that I asked. We arranged for an arrival time of 2-5pm. The technician arrived at 5:05pm with no call or indication that they would arrive a few mins late. Upon arrival, he went to work without giving any type of estimate and then charged my spouse $235 for 20 mins of work where they dismantled our lock, lubricated it and then reassembled it. I was a bit outraged at the cost for 20 mins of work, so I called the technician. He proceeded to tell me that there is at $90 fee for just coming to my door. And the cost of the work to dismantle and lubricate the lock had a minimum fee of $135. I ended up talking to the owner, who was very calm and agreeable to talk to about the situation. I explained to him that I would not have agreed to have them come out to our home if I knew there was a $90 fee. He saw my perspective, but also explained to me that this type of business usually has a fee to come to the home to fix things. This makes sense to me as well, but I expect a business to also explain to me that I am agreeing to pay a fee for them to just come to my door. In the end, the fee was waived and we paid $135 to have our lock dismantled, lubricated and reassembled. The lock and door seems to be working so far a few days later. I gave 3 stars because mostly because of the lack of communication about an estimate and charges and partially because they were late without any indication of being late. I have to also say they were agreeable and fair after the conversation and they did fix the door so far. read more
