When I first became involved with this company, I liked them a lot. But just under 3 years later…read morewhen I sold my house, I saw a very different side of them. I wanted them to pick up their tank that I had been paying $81 per quarter for. They continued to charge me the $81 even though I asked them to pick up their tank because I had apparently agreed to lease the tank from them for 3 full years. Oh well, I guess that's my fault for not reading the fine print when I started buying propane from them. Then, when I asked if they would be refunding me for the unused propane in the tank, they said no. When I objected they again said that provision was also in the lease agreement. So my advice to folks is, don't buy the "we are family" balcony they give you when you sign up and review everything with a fine tooth comb BEFORE you sign anything.

These folks advertise that they treat you like family. Believe me they don't. They say all the…read moreright things on the phone but as soon as you sign a contract they turn on you. They came and estimated putting in gas lines and tanks and gave me a price. Then the bill came and it was way over the price they gave me. The excuse was that the person who gave me the price was no longer working for them. I don't care about that. They gave me a price and they should honor it. That wasn't the end of their dirty little deeds. They told me that my 1st fill up was at 1.39 a gallon and that from then on it was 2.59. So I get my bill and its 2.79. They said that I was not on a fixed price and that I was on a 3 year contract and subject to market prices. In effect telling me tough. Well the market price in my area today is 2.55. That's 24 cents over market price. Would you do that to family? I think not. So now I have to contact my lawyer and assess my options. Don't let them trick you into a shady deal. Go elsewhere. Everyone is cheaper for oil or propane.

In early April of 2025 I noticed that a patch of lawn was dead, and when I smelled the dirt it smelled of oil. Bags containing absorbant material from the old oil tank had been placed on that spot. I first called the offices at John Ray & Sons on 4/3/2025 to resolve this issue. Since then I have had two no-call, no-show appointments. Two unanswered e-mails, and I have made several phone calls to their office. Eventually someone came out to resolve the issue on 5/2/2025. The solution was to remove as much dead grass as could be removed with a rake and spread grass seed over the area. The grass seed did not germinate in the oil contaminated soil. I contacted John Ray and Sons again on 5/20/2025 and was told that neither one of the customer service reps I had been communicating with were available. 48 hours later I still have not heard from either of them.

I just converted from oil heat to propane and contracted with Blue Flame for the purchase of…read morepropane gas. The Heating Installer for an Albany based company incorrectly installed a wrong part that caused high levels of CO2 to be emitted. Steve at Blue flame used an analyzer and his years of experience to detect the serious issue and red flagged and shut down the new system. We called the installer, with Steve getting on the phone with them. After the heating company came twice more the problem was fixed. In the mean-time Steve on his own time called my wife and I, concerned for our well-being. Steve also showed up at our house after the problem was deemed corrected by the installer to make sure it was safe and properly setup. Now that to me is well beyond customer service. Steve and every blue flame rep carries a CO2 analyzer with them, even though the unit is costly, because per Blue Flame to properly check a system install without it is cutting corners and creates too high a risk for the customer.
