Contract from July 2025 to June 30 2026 pre paid large quantity of propane in North adams,owner Richard coons of 1st propane, here's the dishonesty of MR COONS,I had residue of fuel left in pre pay on March 30 I ask to just deliver balance of propane I paid for to be delivered owner says I'd rather send to check I said ok thats fine and I ask to take me.off automatic delivery on the 2 accounts, I received screen shots of that auto off. When I first became involved with this company, I liked them a lot. But just under 3 years later when I sold my house, I saw a very different side of them. I wanted them to pick up their tank that I had been paying $81 per quarter for. They continued to charge me the $81 even though I asked them to pick up their tank because I had apparently agreed to lease the tank from them for 3 full years. Oh well, I guess that's my fault for not reading the fine print when I started buying propane from them. Then, when I asked if they would be refunding me for the unused propane in the tank, they said no. When I objected they again said that provision was also in the lease agreement. So my advice to folks is, don't buy the "we are family" balcony they give you when you sign up and review everything with a fine tooth comb BEFORE you sign anything. read more

Let me tell you how bad this company is, first and most important they were price gouging me. $4.30 per gallon when the NYS average is $3.30 per gallon and we all know what kind of a winter this has been. Just look at our National Grid bills but that's another story. I terminated their service a few weeks ago, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I had to leave their tanks with 68% fuel left in them which equates to approximately 130 gallons. A respectful company would buy back the fuel at the cost that was originally charged because they're just going to turn around and reuse it for a new customer. But this piece of crap company is not going to buy back the fuel, so essentially they are double dipping on it by reusing my fuel for another customer and charging them as well as me. Their ads boast about being a family run business, ha ha maybe a dysfunctional family but not one with honor and integrity.. read more

I purchased fuel from this company and paid them for service for both my home and my business since Merle Oil (sadly) closed. When their rate increases forced me to inform them over six months ahead of time that I was going to have to switch companies because of their rates, they didn't offer a customer loyalty reduction or price match and made no effort to keep me as a customer. I gradually switched my oil provider (almost 30% less cost), and spoke with them numerous times regarding monitoring their two large propane tanks to inform me when they were low so I could arrange installation of tanks from the new company because they refused to credit the propane in the tanks. One tank for my home was finally low on propane and was exchanged. My publicly accessed office tank remained. The office furnace wouldn't start in 10 degree weather, and they refused me service because I was transitioning companies. The new service location would (understandably) not come because First Fuel's tank was still hooked up, until I called them back because First Fuel refused to help. As a result, the new company's tank was set before the propane I had paid for from First Fuel was used. They have not refunded the cost of the remaining fuel despite an emailed request and sent advertisements for their service department instead. They caused my medical office to go without central heat for three days in 10-15 deg. weather. Every other service contractor I called was booked due to the extreme cold causing emergencies, and every one had something negative to say about the family that owns First Fuel. This is the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with!! The customer service is absolute garbage, the lady I dealt with was rude and nasty. They basically stole 24 gallons of fuel that we paid for from us and refused to offer a refund after they were the ones who said that had to take one of our two tanks back! As a single mother my life already comes with challenges. The uphill battle with COVID related stress made me seek a better life for myself and my child. I recently moved upstate NY and settled in for what I thought would be a peaceful Winter in my new home. First Fuel was my lesson in crooked business dealings, something I thought I was escaping when I left the city. When I had trouble with my gas heat I contacted them, and they immediately tried to bully me into a full overhaul of my furnace. I expect they wanted to take advantage of me because of my gender and thought I was vulnerable. I went with a local plumber and he laughed when I told him of my experience with first fuel, as all he needed to do was replace a part for $8. Do yourself a favor and go with ANY OTHER fuel company. read more

This company could care less about their long standing customers. Best not to become one. THE CISTOMER Is NEVER RIGHT. *As I write this it is 5°F outside. *The gauge on my tank is broken (it read 1/4) *I have _$700.00 credit in THEIR bank account (that they have been drawing interest on since September, the tail end of a $2k deposit). *1st Fuel CANNOT COME TODAY without charging an extra $200 "route interruption" fee. *I live less than 1 mile away from the main office, fuel tanks & where the trucks are lodged nightly. Christine, the manager, gave me options; *We can go get 20 gallons of diesel , put it in ourselves & start the unit ourselves. *We can wait in the cold for them to come & pay an extra $275.00 fee for same day delivery & then starting the furnace (wait, if I can start the unit myself when I put in diesel fuel, I can't start the unit myself & ship the starter fee if THEY deliver today?) * (THIS IS THE HILARIOUS ONE) IF I opt for a regular delivery they cannot call & tell me when it is going to come, BUT, I can call them every morning to see if this might be the delivery day....because if I call in they can look it up. Dealing with the office manager, Christine, is an exercise in futility they truly are in the business for the $. And could care less about their customers . read more

spend a week working on getting a price for a underground propane tank had them come out look at where i wanted it said the location was good told me they would have a price for the install in the morning that they were not real busy right now so time frame should quick, had to call at 2:00 then was told since I was only using them for the first fill they would not do the job unless I signed up for three years with them because they were busy right now. I would be remiss to NOT review the services I received from this company in Hudson, NY. I am a Business Manager for an accounting firm in Calabasas, CA. In January (dead of winter), a client of mine who owns a home in Ghent, NY sent me an urgent e-mail saying pipes were freezing, the Oil Heater in the basement was only heating half of the house, and "eating oil" (supply was quickly diminishing) and a freezing snowstorm was expected! I called Christina, at First Fuel (who knows more about propane heating than you would expect from even the technicians), and she immediately jumped into action! My client was told that fuel delivery couldn't be delivered before Friday (a 3-day wait and supply was dangerously low), Christina had a delivery scheduled the next day! Two days after that, a technician was in my client's basement evaluating the system and recommendations were made. By the following week, a (3) day install was scheduled to install a new, cleaner and more efficient heating system fueled by propane. The client was worried because the basement door was "swollen shut", and Christina (once again!) advises her technicians to bring tools to remove the door from the hinges and replace once the old equipment was removed, and the new system was brought in. Being 3,000 miles removed from a potentially disastrous situation, and receiving the level of service, competence, and TRUST that was DELIVERED, I praise the TEAM at First Fuel without hesitation! As a home owner and mom emergency's run daily. I called main-care to come fix my ac. They sent a kid who told me that the reason my ac wasn't working was because of my filter(month old) lol even I know that wasn't the problem. They came back 4 times replaced many parts, lots of bills but still never worked. I called first fuel they fixed it within an hour with leak stop. The coolant leaking! An easy fix wow. My heat went in the dead of winter -0 weather I called them there the next morning and spent the entire day to ensure I was warm. Another time my thermostat broke. I waited for an electrician who never called back. My house was like a sauna stuck on high. Called first fuel there in 2 hours. Truly the most affable/personable representatives answer their phone, (NO- "press1 or press 2" nonsense). From day 1 of purchasing our house this company has been horrible. First they just switch name on account I can see all previous homeowners transactions when logged in online. Second they pretty much called nonstop after we bought house pressuring us into keeping them. Then they locked us in to the previous owners rates at $2.69 a gallon ( everyone else is around $1.89) we called told them we were considering switching company's so they then sent someone out to fill our tanks that week. When we called they were kind enough to drop our amount down to $2.29 a gallon. They have automatic delivery except the fact that the regulator must not be working and we ran out of propane!!!!!
