I had my six month check up today, and I was helped by Yaretzi. From my x-ray to my cleaning she was beyond amazing. I have been going here since 2008 and I have not had any dental assistant/ hygienist be so thorough and helpful as today. Took my sister here, used to be our day 1 dentist office, I honestly regret bring her here. The service is horrible. Representative were attitude and rude. When they took her for a consult not much was broken down to understanding. When she finally got some service work done the doctor was mean and aggressive and they don't respond to her when she asked to stop. When numbing her the didn't even let the gel sit long enough to work and just went right in with the needles. Instead relieving her pain on a cap fill, she was caused more pain. Worst experience ever. Don't recommend at all. read more

If you are going for routine check ups, book with the son (younger doctor). He is great and super nice! Maria is amazing!! The older doctor is mean. I've been going here about 12 years and may come back for regular check ups and routine cleaning. I am also reconsidering after my last dental issue. I came in midweek for an abscess and had a follow up the next day with their specialist for a root canal consultation. He wasn't very concerned about the new swelling and increased pain after starting antibiotics. He was rough with my mouth and ended up putting me in excruciating pain after poking around in my gums. He ended up switching the antibiotics because the first dentist prescribed the wrong one to begin with. I was then booked for an appointment for 12/5 because I couldn't book during the week of 11/18 (the specialist was only there every other week). After 3 days, my face continued to swell and the pain was so consistent that I went to another dentist for a second opinion. The new dental office considered me a dental emergency and referred me to a root specialist who gave me a same-day consultation and performed the root canal a week later. Complete night and day between the care I received from each office. read more

I've been coming to this office for a few years now. Everyone that works here is great. The ladies in the front office are very nice and professional, especially the young lady thats been there for almost 25 years. She's always very kind and accommodating. The Doctors are USC grads and their attention to detail to address any issues is always a good sign. I've never had any issues with waiting or trying to get an appointment, and unlike some dental offices, they do it all their, they don't have to send you to a different specialists, which will usually drive up the price. I've tried going to other dental office and just never felt that I was getting the same level of customer service or care. I defiantly recommend giving this office a try. read more

Went to this dentist because I had an emergency. I was told I needed a root canal and would have to refer me to someone else to do it because they're in root canal clown would not be in for another 2 weeks. They could not find anyone that would accept my insurance so I thought I was screwed. Went to another dentist and was told I had plenty of tooth above the nerve and they took care of it on the spot. Needless to say I have a new dentist that I love and am kinda thankful that this happened to me because my new guy is the best EVER!!! This dentist office is the worst! I scheduled a wisdom tooth extraction in December 2020 and the dental surgeon only comes once a month so I had to wait 2 months until February 2021. I called to confirm prior to my appointment only to find out they "rescheduled for me" to March without my knowledge. The fact that they did this without my consent was unprofessional, had I not called I wouldn't of even known they rescheduled my appointment. When I was leaving, the receptionist and a dental assistant were gossiping about patients which again makes the office unprofessional. The actual tooth extraction was ok. The dental surgeon was very nice and explained everything very thoroughly. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted and I felt nothing. I had to wait 30 minutes in between getting my teeth extracted because the dental surgeon was working on other people in between my surgery. If you want to go to a dentist where receptionists gossip about patients while disrespecting patient confidentiality, and reschedule your appointments without you knowing... Unprofessional, unclean, I saw dirty tools a dirty mirror that was used in my mouth. Nurses didn't properly set up. My dentist removing my wisdom teeth was aggressive, unintelligible, at times seemed confused. The tools did not look sanitary! Midway through my removal, I had to ask them to stop. The nurse pulling my cheek open kept getting yelled at by the dentist cause she wasn't doing her job right. Wich I could feel it and hear it. I asked them to stop cause I was beginning to panic. I asked for vaseline and she told me I'd get it when I was done... .okay? .... Wich by the end of the day. I never did get the vaseline. My lip where she tugged so much is cut. I will mention the name of the dentist down below. However I strongly urge you to look for a different location. Dentist rested his arms on my face I felt my jaw about to dislocate had I not asked him to stop. I don't feel like I'm exaggerating. Infact I left out details. DONT go in. I believe its worth mentioning the dentist has a super lazy eye.. going in he looked competent .. however he was butchering the side farthest away from his sight. Ok, let's be real! You can't give a dentist office 5stars period. They cause you pain and their all in your mouth, oddly, pulling this way and thata way and that drilling noise is just eerie (I can't stand to hear it, do I go in with headphones)! But with the that negatively, I still line the work they is done. The staff is really nice, they know my name and face as I walk, their calling me by name, before I sign in. The doctors (father and son) are both graduates of USC! That alone is great and they really know they stuff. Office waiting room, no big deal to it. However it is always clean. You can see everyone pretty much getting work done if your in t the back, so if you prefer a private room... This place is not for you. Equipment seems updated and all in good working shape. Prices, depends on your coverage and what your getting done, but anywhere you go it can be expensive. I would give thus place 5stats but I can't its a dental office and they cause me discomfort when they have to give me a shot. It's not that bad at all but still, I cent bring myself 5. First Dental Group - Endodontists Near Me - Montclair, California

I would never go to this place ever again. This was one of the most convenient dental surgeons I could go to with MEDI-CAL/DENTI-CAL. I was told by my normal dentist to get a CT scan of my mouth regarding my wisdom teeth and the positioning of what he could see. After finding a dentist who had the CT scan available, and paying 275$ for the scan. That dentist had explained to me what I would need done in my surgery for extraction. Regarding the placement of my lower jaw nerve and how I would need to be put under anesthesia. I then took my dental CT scan to this FIRST DENTAL GROUP when i arrived for my consultation. They proceeded to take their own x-ray (not a CT scan) for insurance purposes, which I can understand. and then they sat be down to wait for the surgeon for the rest of consultation. When he arrived he said that they could do the surgery, that he didn't need to place me under anesthesia and was very pushy about getting my OK for the authorization. He never even looked at the CT scan (which i still held in my hand) i asked if he was sure about it, that he hadn't looked at the scan and I had explained what my other two dentists had said before me going there. he said no it'd be fine and we sent the authorization in to Denti-Cal. I left in tear, my anxiety level was super high and it just didn't feel right. I couldn't see why my original dentist would send me somewhere else (unaffiliated with him) to pay 275$ for a CT scan i didn't need. and Why the CT scan place would be so adamant about explaining this to me regarding further treatment I would be seeking. He seemed to not really care at all and was just trying to get to the next patient. I then had decided to check out another dentist (Western University Dental Center) which was much more helpful and calming, they greeted the CT scan with open arms, looked at it right away, broke down the CT scan for me in layman terms, and said exactly what the other dentists had said. Needless to say I felt much more comfortable and safer with this experience so I decided to continue treatment with them. This however was not my last interaction with FIRST DENTAL GROUP I called them that day to cancel my authorization with them, and after what seemed like pulling teeth to get ahold of a lady over the phone to cancel it, and met with attitude, they had told me they did. Flash forward to a month later, i get a call from Western saying the authorization was denied due to the fact that FIRST didn't not cancel the authorization. So i called FIRST and Adriana(handles authorizations), who was not in, she was at lunch, was supposedly given my name and number and issue and was to call me back after she had gotten back. Two days later, I call her and track her down, she says my authorization cancel was submitted March 6th, and it takes some time for it to go through. I asked if I could get an email with a conformation number or something stating that they had submitted the cancellation, to which she told me MARIA handles that and she's not in today, she'd be in tomorrow, and she'd be able to handle writing me an email with the cancellation numbers etc. I will be calling Maria tomorrow to get the email. Due to this I now have to wait several weeks to get authorization for my new dentist, and these wisdom teeth are causing me extreme amounts of pain. This is unacceptable and I feel like I've been given the run around. I would say they lack customer service and empathy for their patients. I would also go to say that they are disorganized and because of this its causing people discomfort and inconvenience. I will be filing a complaint with Denti-cal as well regarding this office. I have been coming here for a couple of years now and love it. The doctors are amazing they never do anything that's absolutely not needed like many other dental offices. The specialist is amazing! The office staff always pleasant and helpful especially Maria. I hate any dental work but FDG makes the visit a little less stressful. Yaojen is a very awesome dentist. It was my first time to be there, I had a big cavity and some other cavities. I did teeth filling and wisdom teeth extraction. It was so fast and efficient, when I was doing the teeth, I didn't feel any hurt, maybe a little, I think it's normal. I have to say he is very experienced, I will come few months later to do my other teeth fillings. (So sad, I have a lot of teeth problems i know, I will stop to eat sugar things) I would definitely recommend him to be your dentist. read more

If you need a professional and genuine dentist, 1st dental is the BEST! I actually went for a second opinion to 1st Dental because I had been diagnosed with multiple cavities and crowns by a previous dentist. When I first arrived, I was pleasantly greeted and received timely, caring service. I met the dentist, Dr. Chang and explained I was there for a second opinion. Dr. Chang did a thorough, yet very gentle exam and x-rays and was able to explain to me the needed treatment. It was FAR less than the previous dentist! Dr. Chang was extremely professional, kind and educated. He helped me understand by showing me exactly what I needed and why. I was so impressed by this one of a kind office. They have definitely earned a patient for life, and I will be referring my family and friends. read more

My recent visit with Dr. Chang was such a wonderful experience. I am extremely pleased and very satisfied with the service and the results!!! Dr. Chang and the staff were a true godsend for me. The staff is friendly, thorough in explaining all charges and procedures and you don't have to sit around all day to be seen (like I did at my previous dentist...even with an appt.) I only discovered First Dental because recently I had gone to my previous dentist of 12 years, (Dental Group of Covina) and asked to have "Internal Bleaching" performed on 1 tooth. I had this service before due to my tooth darkened from a root canal done long ago. After 6 yrs. the tooth darkened again, which meant it was time to internally bleach again. No problem right? Well....now my previous dentist said they don't perform that service there...and now I needed to have crowns on 2 teeth (suggesting I do the one next to it to match). The price quoted was $2400! I said I couldn't afford it. I was told that was my option and they really tried hard to sell me on it. I said let me think about it and left very frustrated. I knew they did internal bleaching as they called me later and apologized. I felt they just wanted me to spend more money needlessly. Thankfully I found First Dental Group in Montclair. When I called them I asked about their services, specifically Internal Bleaching. They fit me in early the next day! After my exam Dr. Chang performed the Internal Bleaching with no problems, no hesitations. When finished I was handed a mirror to see the results. I got teary eyed because I had my beautiful smile back. I was in and out in less than an hour, and all for only a few hundred dollars. What a difference in service and customer satisfaction!!! I've already begun to recommend First Dental to friends, family, co-workers etc. I'm now a new and forever patient of Dr, Chang's and his wonderful Staff at First Dental. read more

SHADY PLACE don't bring your kids here.... Brought my daughter here for the first time and they said my insurance which is medical doesn't cover white fillings, ok no problem give her the silver feelings cause I can't afford it. They numb her and are about to do her feelings I realize my other daughter who goes to a different dentist did her white filling so I ask since when did medical stop covering the white fillings and I go on to explain about my other daughter, she tells me to ask the front desk. She said some bullshit about medical only covers the front teeth which I say I'm sorry but they did my other daughters back molar. Once they realized I kinda knew what I was talking about she switched it around and said oh the doctor here doesn't cover it, I'm sorry.. what the hell, So my daughter got numb and they would of let her get silver fillings and charged me extra for white fillings when her medical covers it all.. BEWARE!! I would not go to this dental office again. I was going in for a basic teeth cleaning. I had x-rays at my previous dentist 6 months ago and I was told when I called that I didn't need any when I came in and I thought great. Not so great, that was the first lie. When I got there the dentist wouldn't see me if I didn't get the x-rays. So I was basically forced to get the x-rays. The dentist checked my teeth which took about 2 minutes and I had no cavities but recommended I get a deep cleaning. Second lie, again when I called I told them that I just wanted a basic cleaning and they said OK. The deep cleaning is more money. About $200 more. So ridiculous. I asked if my insurance covered a cleaning and she told me it only covered the basic cleaning which I wanted but since the dentist recommends the deep cleaning that they could no longer give me a basic cleaning which coincidentally was free and covered by my insurance. I would have never gotten x-rays if I would have known that I wasn't going to be serviced and have my teeth cleaned. I just walked out. What a giant waste of time. I wont be back and definitely wont be recommending this office to anyone. read more

Let me begin by saying that I've become accustomed to sub-standard health care. Ever since my family bought insurance through the ACA Marketplace, we've either experienced incompetent providers, long waits, or no providers at all. I do appreciate having health care, but subsidies certainly come with drawbacks. So, when I was referred to this office for a desperately needed root canal, I was nervous. When I told my previous dentist about the pain I was feeling, he told me to wait at least six months for the tissue to rest before he would take a second look at the tooth. So, I logically concluded that I should wait a touch longer. Hence, I endured two years of excruciating pain with the hope that it would eventually work itself out. Finally, the pain became intolerable, yet it still took over a month to gain approval for the procedure. Unfortunately, just days before my scheduled appointment I broke my ankle. Thinking that I may need to postpone the procedure until after my ankle healed was anxiety-inducing, to say the least. However, I contacted the office, and they were totally fine with working on my tooth despite my injury. Phew! This was my second root canal, and the first one left me with lingering pain for more than six months. I was worried. The endodontist came across as very competent, if a bit terse. The procedure took longer than my previous root canal, but it seemed as if the specialist was taking his time in order to execute the steps properly. This relieved me. He ordered x-rays mid-procedure so that he could verify that the root had been killed (?) successfully. Fast-forward to today - MY TOOTH HURTS LESS THAN BEFORE! I don't need any pain meds, and I can drink hot AND cold beverages without incident! I would not hesitate to have any procedure at this office after my experience. I want to tell the world that I am living with less pain today than yesterday, and that is encouraging!!! read more

Another mercantile dentist that does not care about patients at all. The dentist is only located about 1 mile from my place and takes my insurance, I need a cleaning, so i call and make an appointment. I show up at my appointment and they take some x-rays and do not clean my teeth???? What dentist takes a new patient and doesn't do a teeth cleaning on the 1st visit? Do they think I made an appointment because I have a Novocaine or tooth fetish? I ask them why and the dentist said its his policy to do an "evaluation", before performing any "procedures". He then proceeds to try and up sell me fillings, teeth whitening, etc.... Well, you get one procedure, when you go to this dentist, you get a free wallet biopsy. I tell him I just want a cleaning, so I go and make an appointment and his receptionist said they are exceptionally busy and can't schedule it for 2 months! I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment and there was no one in the waiting room, when I was leaving there was still no one in the waiting room....yeah the place was frenetic. I bet if I wanted some laser teeth whitening done, they would have fit me in sooner. Needless to say I will not be back, yelp needs a zero star rating for this place. read more
