An hour later, after Dr. Rana Skaff had pronounced "root canal, retreatment" of my bottom R rear molar, I was headed to Dr. Jack Yu and his team of pros at Grandview Endodontics. Everyone that I interacted with, from Office Manager DARLENE to dental nurses JUDY and UELSY to the (very) good doctor himself were consummate pros. They nimbly squeezed me in for a 1:30pm appt despite never hearing of me til 10:30am. They took their diagnostic X-Rays with gentle yet efficient care, treating the swollen, painful tooth; the pain so gnarly it was radiating to my jaw bone and pulsing in perfect synchronized time w/ my heartbeat. Dental Nurse Judy and Dr. Yu work beautifully together! Watching them -eyeballs close yet strangely detached due to multiple rounds of local anesthesia administered- is like watching an orchestra. Each person anticipating the other's need then flashing forward to meet it. I was in the chair, from diagnostic X-Rays to finance/insurance docs to actual treatment, from 1:45pm til 3:35pm. Time immeasurably well spent considering the world of misery I was in for the preceding 48hrs 'til I could get treatment. Pro Q- Is it meeeh or do most infections requiring root canal start on the weekend, when the vast majority of dentists/endodontists are unavailable?! Pro Tip- Dr. Yu is a major proponent of utilizing Gentle Wave / Clean Flow technology as an accompaniment to his root canals. Let him!!! Worth the peace of mind and reduction in post-canal complications. I'll recap this review by paraphrasing the Dos Equis Cerveza guy. You know, the wizened Hemingway doppelganger who dispenses critical axioms under the veil of his being -why, of course!- "The Most Interesting Man in the World!" Since I get regular cleanings and checkups on my teeth, I didn't think much of it until I started feeling some incredibly intense jaw pain all of a sudden early summer, and for a more than a couple of weeks, I relied on Advil, soft foods at room temperature, and late night video game binges to distract me from the immense discomfort I was going through. I was eventually referred to by my dentist to Valley Green Endodontics and boy am I glad he did. There appeared to be a hard to spot (even by x-ray) hairline crack in a tooth that was found only by removing the filling...and thus the root canal proceeded thereafter. Now, I gotta admit I am terrified of having any work done on my teeth due to - I get incredibly anxious feeling trapped in the chair with the sound of a drill going on. But I was lucky enough to get Dr. Chun, who is as kind and reassuring as she is really knowledgeable as well as super skilled and steady with her tools. She communicated well with me what would happen each step of the way and I felt absolutely no discomfort whatsoever throughout the entire process. Her assistant was also incredible as well. The rest of staff was incredibly nice and easy to talk to and I was happy that my pain - as well as any very mild swelling due to the root canal that happened - subsided pretty quickly. I do need to note although insurance covered a good portion of the root canal, it did not cover the Gentle Wave treatment, which I still thought was worth it for the more thorough cleaning. Between the initial numbing q-tip, the following injections and the nitrous oxide, I was golden. She was very pleasant and made sure I was comfortable. Alexis and Ashley were very pleasant as well when I checked in, smiles and bright personalities! The assistant, Angela, was there to answer my questions and deal with my sort of nervous energy and failed attempts at humor, LoL! I left with no pain and drove home with no issues or concerns. When he started the treatment, I could immediately tell this is his expertise. He handled the procedure with utmost precision and extreme care. I felt comfortable the whole time even though the procedure was quite complicated. At the end, he was able to fix my tooth infection. The office is clean and has professional ambiance. The receptionist and the dental assistant were very friendly, welcoming and courteous. They handled their respective duties with utmost professionalism and skills. I felt bad I don't remember their names (the anesthesia effect). Thankfully, I'll see them on my follow up appointment.

My dentist finally sent me here to have a specialist look at it. Dr Patel took a 3D scan and discovered that I had a severe deep infection and extensive bone loss already. He was sensitive and honest with me. He was going to do everything he could to save my tooth but it was not guaranteed. I am also terrified of the dentist and he was super gentle and walked me thievery step of the way. I came back for my follow up today 4 months later, and he saved my tooth!!!! He did not acknowledge this or give any advice on how to cope during the procedure. He was not gentle when numbing me with the novocaine needles. Other dentist I've had use a different technique to ease the needle in. He was rough when putting on my dental shield and jaw block. During the procedure, he used a tool that produced a burning smoke. This was going into my nostrils and caused me to gag. I motioned if he could raise my chair up slightly. He said, "No, your throat is numb. That's why you think you are choking." The overall procedure was significantly different from my first root canal. He was rough with his tools and was not concerned about my well being. I was in tears when it ended. The assistant asked quietly if I'd like a tissue when it was over. That was the only act of care I received that day. I would not recommend this office if you are sensitive to pain, require a gentle hand, expect positive bedside manner, or have any nervousness about dental work in any way.

My prior dentist stopped taking my insurance and referred me to an out of network endodontist for eval on a teeth that he thought needed a root canal. I had to find an in network dentist to finally get a referral to an endodontist who took my insurance. He didn't think I needed a root canal so I can't comment on how that would have been but I would not hesitate to return to him for it should I need it. He was quick to diagnose but he was thorough with explaining. I felt invited to tell him my pain history and he listened. I felt comfortable asking him questions and got answers that I was comfortable with. He was very confident in a good way. I didn't leave the office wondering if I need a second opinion. My teeth has been causing me so much distress this year and I was super worried about another root canal or having to have this tooth removed if I didnt get the root canal done stat, since my original dentist really scared me.
