Marina is great. She's so honest upfront about what's possible, what isn't, and what her hesitations are. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be hemmed after my grandma had tried (emphasis on tried) doing it herself. Marina immediately told me it would be a bit short but doable if I wore the flattest flats I could find. I went back for a fitting the next week after she had pinned it all up and a week after that it was done. So appreciated her honesty, attention to detail, and efficiency. I was a bridesmaid earlier this year and I didn't get my dress until the week before the wedding. Not only did I need to make last minute alterations, but the dress was 2 whole sizes too large. I was working in west LA at the time and went onto to yelp to narrow down a place to get this dress altered. First Class had the best reviews and it was down the street so I gave it a try. Marina is AWESOME!! Not only was she able to alter the dress in a short amount of time (I dropped it off Monday and got it back Thrusday, the wedding was that Saturday), she re-worked the dress into something fabulous - as close as you can get to fabulous for a garment district bridesmaid dress at least. :) She knows her fabrics well and knows what will work and what won't - I trusted her instincts and experience immediately and I'm glad I did. The dress was made of a thin single layer jersey, and I was very happy with her alterations. Also, her pricing was more than fair - I ended up paying about $80 to take the dress in two sizes, alter the length of the dress, as well as the sash. Also she reworked the sleeves of the dress to be more flattering on my body. I can tell others feel the same way about her since the place was busy non-stop the two times I went in. I think when I went in she only accepted cash and personal checks - this was many months ago so you may want to call ahead to make sure. I highly highly recommend Marina - I'm sad I don't live in LA anymore, but if I ever find myself in west LA in need of alterations, I know where to go. read more

Before I found Marina, I wouldn't buy clothes that I absolutely loved, if they didn't fit me perfectly. I just went shopping in New York and found a Steven Alan on sale that was great, but in the wrong size. I went to First Class Tailors a few days ago on a desperate mission to fix a large( about 1.5 inches) , jagged tear at the bottom of my velvet dress( yes, I stepped on it--and the heel went right through). I spoke to a couple of top rated tailors over the phone, who suggested either shortening the dress, or adding pleats somehow to hide the rip (what??). Neither of these suggestions were going to work for me. I went to First Class after reading the great reviews, and boy...I was not disappointed! It was a busy Saturday a week before Christmas. I expected to talk to the proprietress Marina, and if I liked what she suggested, I figured I would leave the dress with her and hopefully get it in time for Xmas eve. Low and behold--Marina, who is delightful, looked at the dress, said "no problem"--and proceed to fix it there WHILE I WAITED, and while she was helping some of her other customers. She patched the hole from the back, and reinforced the seam with the perfect matching burgundy thread. VOILA! Dress fixed in about 5 minutes! It's as good a fix as I can imagine considering the size and jaggedness of the tear. I am so pleased! Bottom line, I was thrilled with First Class Tailors, and would go back again in a heartbeat! read more

Marina is simply the best! I came to her over a year ago to have a suit tailored and my decision back then was based on her Yelp reviews. Since then, I have brought in a total of four suits, eight pairs of pants, a blazer, and over 15 dress shirts/casual button ups to be tailored. Now what does that tell you? Her customer service is top notch. She is always very friendly and welcoming, no matter how busy she may be (she has plenty of business for a reason).The second time I came to her to have some work done, she had already remembered me by name and knew exactly how I like my clothes to fit. She is also very honest. If I were to bring something in and it fit perfectly, she would tell me exactly that, instead of trying to upsell me on alterations. She is upfront with pricing and gives you different options in how the alterations can be done if your decisioning is driven more by cost or by style preference. She can do it all and will ensure that you are 100% satisfied. I would like to add that I do not live near First Class Tailors. It can take me over an hour to get there, but I can tell you that it is worth the drive. Now that I have found Marina and First Class Tailors, I couldn't imagine having my clothes tailored by anyone else! read more

Let me start with that I have delayed writing this review for years because I do not want my secret of the best tailor in LA to get out to the public but feel it's only right to acknowledge the wonderful work Marina does. I have brought her everything from t-shirts and shorts to a tuxedo for my wedding and the work has turned out amazing for all of it. My tuxedo turned out amazing and I was very please with the time she spent looking over this article of clothing. I bring each of my work shirts to her and all of my jeans. She is a perfectionist with her work and will give you her direct opinion (something I value immensely). There have been several times where she recommended not doing something to an article of clothing b/c it would be too expensive or would not look right which is in contrast to her personal interests. You do not hear that opinion everyday. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a spectacular tailor with attention to detail! read more

I came to the shop with two pairs of beloved polyester Kappa soccer pants that I have had since middle school (1994); the drawstrings had fallen out over the years. Marina immediately gave the pants and my reel-of-drawstring a go. The pants were a stubborn pair! I left my name and number and within a few hours Marina texted me that my freshly drawstringed pants were ready. Wow, that was fast, and she didn't charge a thing! Ok so I have been here a few times, and more times than not Marina tells me she can't/won't do or doesn't recommend doing what I'm asking because either it wouldn't look good or it would be too expensive. I'm not sure what to make of that- is she lazy or really after my best interests?! Who knows. Normally I would be concerned about recommending a small business like this for fear that it would be overrun and I wouldn't be able to get my own work done but I have no fear of that happening with Marina and First Class Tailors. I found her about two and a half years ago based on reading reviews online and I do not know how I lived without her in my life. Now I know that sounds so ridiculous but she is much more than a tailor or seamstress. I first went to her after I had lost weight and wanted to have some clothes taken in. I think out of 12 pieces, we would up fixing two -- she did not think it would be worth doing the other pieces. She could have easily taken my money and called it a day but there are many, many times I go in, we'll spend an hour trying on a bunch of clothes and she may wind up shortening one pair of pants -- for an incredibly reasonable price. She is so honest and would never do work if it was unnecessary. But she never makes you feel guilty about "taking up her time" -- that's not what it is about for her. She loves it (or makes it seem that way!) -- she loves helping people with their wardrobe -- she has become my unofficial stylist..suggesting shoes, accessories, etc. for certain outfits. I recently had a red carpet event and walked in with about 15 dresses and we picked the perfect one together -- she is the only person whose opinion I trust. (And I must say, I come with a pretty good sense of style as a base...I love clothes too). Or when I went on a working holiday in the South of France - together we worked on a my entire wardrobe and we did so little "work" on any of the pieces - she just does it because she loves it (and I think wants her clients to all look fabulous!). And all of this with such warmth and humor. It is truly a pleasure to "go to the tailor"...because it is not a chore, it is a wonderful place. The last time I was there, I had screwed up and walked in on a Saturday afternoon with a dress alteration I needed for Tuesday afternoon..no problem. No extra charges. No attitude. Done. And her prices are unreal. I don't know how she does it, but sometimes I feel guilty because her prices are so ridiculously reasonable. Okay, so if you are still reading this you must think that I have too much time on my hands or someone is paying me or I am just a crazy person - there is only one other time I have written a review of services and honestly, I feel so strongly about Marina and First Class Tailors that I had to write this. Oh - one more thing (I promise) - I thought I couldn't wear certain designer jeans because of my figure..well, I was wrong. Marina has turned me on to so many great websites and she even tells you the style of the jean that would work for your body type - so I don't know if that is good or bad because I have spent money on so many different jeans but I feel so great wearing them that every penny has been worth it. Desperate for a good tailor, I took to the Internet. It seemed fated when I discovered that First Class Tailors was in the mini mall next door to my office. After meeting Marina and working with her one time, I realized my good fortune! Marina has a great eye for proportion and style and never fails to provide honest feedback. As a nonstandard size, fit can be challenging. Mass produced clothes are never right off the rack and small adjustments can take them from OK to outstanding. She turns things around in one week and the work is excellent. She will not accept work that cannot be done correctly and/or items that are beyond saving. Marina is also a personal stylist and offers shopping services. She is kind enough to help me out on what I buy on my own - she votes new purchase in or out and has even shopped for me on line and sent the links to me as a favor. At this point, if Marina has touched it, I don't want to wear it because I know it won't be right without her. I can't recommend Marina highly enough. Since then, I've only gone to Marina because it's clear she really cares about her clients. She is honest about what looks good and what needs work...even if it means turning down a job. She has a great eye, knows what she is talking about, is committed to quality and has very reasonable prices. Here are the things I like most about Marina: --Keeps the best interest of the client in mind: If I need alterations on a piece, I generally don't take the tags off until Marina gives her opinion on whether the piece is worth the alteration investment. She will even turn away business if she can't improve your piece for a reasonable price. --Quality work: Sometimes, you really need to make the article of clothing fit (e.g., bridesmaids dress), and I think these instances really show the miracles Marina can do. I recently took in a dress that was too big in every single direction and even looked awkward in certain areas. She and her team basically re-made the dress in just one week (including a fitting mid-week) and the result was AH-mazing. --Honest, valuable opinion: Marina has a great eye for fashion and really knows how to put things together to flatter any person. She also will give you her honest opinion. So, when I get Marina's approval on what I buy, I get an extra sense of satisfaction that I made a smart purchase. Marina is THE BEST. I have had over half a dozen dresses, both bridesmaid and cocktail tailored at First Class, and every one has been perfect. The prices are very reasonable and I have never had any issues with time crunches. Marina is honest and creative, which is amazing when you are asked to wear a not so flattering dress for someone's big day. I took my last dress to be taken out (too many summer BBQ's) and Marina and her asst. just put a little muscle into it and bam! Marina is a true gem, an absolute wonderful person who knows this business from the inseams to the outseams. First Class Tailors is by far the best in all of LA. Every other post about how great Marina is, is absolutely true. She is super knowledgeable, very friendly and outgoing, and she will be 100% honest with you about everything and won't just alter something if its not worth it. For example, my husband bought a sports coat kind of jacket that looked terrible and just didn't fit him right. He couldn't return it so he went to Marina and she basically told him that it wasn't worth the money he'd have to put into it to make it look decent. She could have easily taken the job, made the alterations and charged for it but instead she did what was best for him as the customer. Also, the last time I was in, I had a few jackets that needed buttons to be reattached. She not only reattached them right then and there, she also didn't charge me! Every single pair of pants I've had hemmed or taken in have turned out great and the price is always fair. After finding First Class Tailors, I've never even thought about going to another place. Its so refreshing to find a business that really values its customers, is honest, and does an amazing job. Marina made my day. I walked in and told her that I wanted the sleeves of my faux fur jacket taken up a little bit. She explained to me that faux fur can be a little tricky because it can fray really easily. So she said her tailors would make a small cut to see what would happen and then they would give me a call the next day to let me know what happened. I put on my coat to show her how short to take the sleeves and she told me with honesty that I could simply just get the ends tucked under and hand sewn; a lot more simple and a lot cheaper. $4 a sleeve! I've stopped by three times only for minor services, but it's clear they are good at what they do. I first visited to get the bottom of the front pocket of my jeans re-stitched (my keys were falling down the leg of my jeans). This job was well done. The next visit was to replace a broken zipper on a jacket. Again, well done. Both were also very prompt fixes. Lastly, I asked to have a button re-located to better fit a field jacket liner into a field jacket (different models, bought separately). This was done on the spot and she refused any pay! While I haven't been back since (December), I'm looking forward to getting re-measured in March as I'll be in the market for some new suits. I also have some shirts I want to bring in for tailoring. I'll update this review then! Also, the two women I've met who work there are very friendly and they've been honest about the cost/benefit of various jobs I've asked about. read more

Marina is the best! She is funny, fast, and honest-- All good things anyone looks for in a tailor. I had a bridesmaid dress that was way too big for me in all the wrong places. Marina helped me pull up the cap sleeves, so I didn't have to alter the torso of the dress, saving me over a hundred dollars. She hemmed the triple layer bottom as well. That's what I mean by honest. She won't nickel and dime you! She is super quick and efficient. I am usually in and out in less than 15 minutes for fittings. She likes to double check before making the final stitches.
