Came in because of all the rave reviews and left with a destroyed dress. The day I decided to try this place out, Marina was not there. Her assistant helped me with my dress (just had to take it in around the bust). Went back a couple days later, and I could barely fit into the dress! They had taken off way too much fabric. I was actually having a little trouble breathing lest I bust the dress open at the seams. Marina was there when I was trying the dress on, and she basically told me that the dress was altered correctly. I'm all for sticking up for your employees, but not when there is a blatant mistake as this. I could tell Marina was getting more agitated as I argued with her, so we finally settled on her trying to take out the dress a little more. Unfortunately, too much fabric had been cut and now I'm stuck with a brand new dress that I will never be able to wear. (Unless I lose 20 pounds - and the dress is already an XS.) read more

I had been going to First Class Tailors for over eight years, and I will now never return. Not sure what has happened there recently but Marina turned into a mega b****! I used to be a big fan of this tailor shop and Marina and then the work started to get sloppy. I primarily was having pants hemmed and after several instances of having the legs hemmed unevenly I decided to never go back. The last time this happened Marina did some "imaginary" tailoring where she took my uneven pants back for a week did nothing and returned them to me saying they were fixed. After that instance I decided she did not deserve my business and found another tailor near by. Excellent work and worth it to make the trip over. I live in the Bay area, but haven't found anyone that does such an awesome job with my expensive jeans, so I stack them up until I make a trip down to LA. She makes sure that the jeans are the right length for heels or flats, so make sure to wash and dry (in the drier) your jeans prior to coming in or she'll advise you to bring them back another day (and she's totally right). read more

She told me I'm better off buying a new suit because I'd spend too much money having this one tailored. I am originally from orange county so I would usually wait until i go back home to tailor my clothes at my usual spot but I decided to try scouting around LA because it was becoming too much of a hassle. Like most guys, the idea of getting a suit tailored falls somewhere between department store shopping and a dentist appointment. Marina makes it bearable. She's efficient, extremely competent, and most importantly honest. I brought in the first suit I've purchased in almost a decade, and she gave me several options for tailoring along with what she thought would work best in her opinion (which wasn't the most expensive option!). It looked pretty spiffy when finished, but after wearing it once I decided I wanted the pants a bit longer. Marina remembered me from my first visit, helped me find the right length, and re-hemmed it on the spot for free. I probably spent less than an hour total in her shop between 3 visits. She's a true professional who takes pride in her work and made sure I was fully satisfied with my suit. This place is amazing. I brought a bridesmaid's dress in to be taken in a couple of inches around the ribs. After trying it on for Marina, she told me that taking it in wold cost $95 (a few layers of complicated material/boning) - HOWEVER, the amount it needed to get taken in was so slight that if I went out and bought a tight strapless bra, she would sew the dress to the bra and that would work as a solve for taking it in. I was skeptical, but came back with the bra, and she did her magic in front of me (took about four minutes), and she was right - the dress fit perfectly and looked fabulous. The best part? She refused to let me pay her at all. Any business that tries to find low-cost (in this case free) solves for its customers instead of pushing them towards more expensive options is the best kind in my book. She very obviously cares about her customers, not just about making money. I will absolutely be back and will be recommending her to anyone in need of a tailor. Thank you Marina! read more

Might be fine for inexpensive casual clothes, but do NOT recommend for your higher end pieces. I made the mistake of taking in a designer pair of pants (to be taken in just a bit, not a lot - meaning, it was not a complex job). When I got the pants back the right leg inseam pulled forward. When I brought this to Marina's attention she immediately got defensive, raising her voice almost in anger. She refused to correct the mistake. Poor job, poor customer service. I've been a client of Marina's for over ten years. From minor hemming to major surgery, she always does the trick at a reasonable price. She is also completely honest and tells me when to return something or just give it away. Instead of just taking my money for the alterations I'm asking for, she'll tell me when the clothes just aren't right for me to begin with or aren't worth the investment. I was afraid it'd need a full replacement, which would've cost 40+ dollars... but the lady there took a look at it and was able to fix my existing one for only 5 bucks! Wow. I just came back from Marina's shop. She is so nice! I had a jacket that needed tailoring. I got a good deal on it (with a friend's blessing) from Banana Republic, but we thought it needed some tailoring to make it fit right. Well, that was about a month ago, and I guess I've been doing too much yoga because I didn't fit into the jacket very well. Marina said it would be far to expensive to do the work and that I should return it. Then she measured me and gave me some advice on where to go to get a jacket that fits better. It's nice to go to a business where someone is totally honest and nice. She's funny, like the reviews say. I actually want to get another jacket that doesn't fit so I can go back and have her help me again. Wow, an LA original I must say. Very nice person! No wonder she has so many great reviews here. First Class Tailor's is amazing and Marina is a marvel. I bought a high-end suit and wanted to find the best-rated tailor in LA. When i found First Class Tailors, I was a little upset that I'd have to head out to the Westside from downtown LA to get it altered, but it was more than worth the drive. Marina understood what I wanted and executed it perfectly. Moreover, when she offered me the choice between a more expensive and a cheaper alteration on my jacket (after taking it in, re-creating the double vent or leaving it ventless), I opted for the pricier one, the double vent. She gave me her honest opinion that the less expensive one would actually make the suit look more fitted. She was right, and she saved me money. Marina is without question the best tailor I've ever been to and I'd recommend her to anyone. read more

WONDERFUL!!! This place is great. I decided I wanted to start dressing better without buying an entire new wardrobe - by just getting the clothes I already have to fit better. I took in two pants to be shortened which is easy for any tailor. Then, I took in 3 lovely long brocade jackets with pretty heavy fabric which I had always wished would fit me better. They did an AMAZING job. Created pleats where needed, took in the back, under the arms and along sides. All in all a great job! Now that I found them, I bring something with me to be fitted each time I pick up the last couple of items. The two women I've worked with are both helpful AND nice. From the looks of the other customers coming in and out while I am there, it is obviously a cut above other tailor shops but, the prices are great, too. read more
