With our pool just completed construction, we were informed quite late in the process that we would need a pool guy on day 1 for a pool start up. Who knew water in pools needed to be started up too :-), which apparently is a week long process to ensure the chemical balance needed for healthy water and pool longevity. We called several pool maintenance company's and Karlo's company and he stood out from all whom we spoke to. Right from the first call, he was educated us on the start up process, what it would take and what to expect. He showed up on time, promptly when needed on day 0 when the pool was prepped and water was needed to be filled. He not only did his work but explained the whole process, taught us about the different chemicals and the different tests that were needed, always educating us on the process rather than just doing it. He showed up promptly every day of the whole start up process and ensured that the pool was filled, water height correct, equipment set and working, explained the parts of the pool. He educated us on water chemistry and pool maintenance at each step of the way. Karlo now maintains our pool, his pool service uniquely comes with an underwater vacuum to ensure the pool floor is always clean. He is good friends with both our large dogs who took an immediate liking to him and is one of the very few people that can go with no one at home, into our backyard to the pool with both the dogs who enjoy his company. I called Karlo after reading the 5 star reviews on Yelp. He seemed to know what he was doing, and was professional for the most part. Our previous pool guy was old school and was having issues getting our PH levels correct. There was always a white acid line around our brand new tile. Karlo assured me that he would correct the PH and get rid of the line without it coming back. I hired him and he cleaned our pool for several months. The acid line would go away the one day of the week that he cleaned our pool, but would come right back the next day (it wasn't a huge deal since the rest of the pool seemed to stay clean). Now, on to the part that earned him 1 star (would be zero if possible). We had a few rust spots coming through our brand new pebble tech (from previous rebar that was not removed by the company who installed the pebble tech, but it was apparently not covered under their warranty since it was existing). Karlo said he wanted to drain the pool to take care of a few issues with the water, and would sand off and "fix" the rust, while the pool was drained. Since the spots had been sanded off 2 other times, my husband asked Karlo if he thought putting a little apoxy over the areas where the rust was, would help it from coming back. Karlo said he had never done it, but would give it a shot. We were out of town when this took place and we came home to 3 areas that stood out horribly worse than the rust. One of which was the size of a grapefruit and dark yellow. The second area, he had clearly dripped/spilled the epoxy in two other spots under where the actual rust was, and those were dark gray. The third spot was the size of a golf ball and a white color. All on top of our sparkly blue pebble tech and abalogne shell. We also noticed that our pool sweep was not working, even though it was on. My husband jumped in and found sand paper sucked up in to the sweep, blocking it from sucking or moving. Thank goodness that wasn't ruined also. When I brought this to Karlo's attention, he said he knew and would come back to fix it all. He tried a second time, with a new tool he bought, but nothing worked. I went outside to discuss it with him and he told me I needed to call the company that installed the pebble tech, to fix it. I was very calm and asked him why I would need to call them, when he was the one who ruined our pool. He proceeded to pick up his equipment and said that he felt threatened and we needed to part ways! I asked him how he could leave us with our pool ruined and worse than before he tried to "fix"it. I texted him the next morning, and never received a response! Horrible customer service and now we are left with a damaged pool, trying to find someone to repair his mistakes.
